A mom recently recommended Coastal Music Studios - she said her boys loved it. I was doubtful as to whether our shy middle school son would feel comfortable enough to learn to sing in a group (He has a history of speech delay and some difficulty with articulation). Pam, teacher/owner, noticed he was new and asked the kids to say hello. The kids were friendly, excited to sing and enthusiastic. I was completely amazed watching my son during the first choir practice. He looked confident and happy. Afterwards, our son (who has a learning disability) said it was the first time he felt like his brain knew exactly what was being asked of him, and that he had so much respect for the teacher since she was kind AND a good leader (i.e. not one negative word/threat said to a group of ~ fifty 2nd-8th graders). Needless to say, our son immediately started weekly voice/piano lessons. I notice he is more willing to do his homework, and is more excited about life/learning overall. Also, the songs that Pam chooses for the choir are very uplifting (non-religious). My husband and I are thrilled to have found this studio - I highly recommend Coastal Music Studios.

My children had music lessons with "Miss Lisa" for over ten years now, in both piano and voice. Now, she is even helping my young actress daughter with her audition monologues. She is a very gifted instructor, and is willing to step out of the box to encourage students and to develop their skills. Patient, kind, and thoughtful, she is nowhere near the "scary piano teacher" stereotype. We have followed her through several locations, and are excited for the new Encinitas Music Workshop. My daughter now has hour-long private voice lessons weekly, and still learns new things on a regular basic. At the new workshop space, there is also an opportunity for a break of pace with Guitar Hero, percussion learning, piano, and other musical pursuits.

I have been studying voice off and on with Tricia for about 15 years, and I just can’t say enough about the quality of training I have received from Tricia. When I first came to her, I was a painfully shy introvert, with extremely low self esteem. I had no self confidence in myself or my singing. I have always loved to sing, but didn’t have that “natural talent” that some people are lucky enough to have. Tricia helped me develop (and find) my voice after a few lessons, and already had me performing in a recital not long after I started lessons with her. Tricia has taught me everything from ear training, music theory, proper placement of the voice, breathing technique and turning that horrible “warble” into a natural vibrato that is really beautiful once achieved. I have studied with Tricia over the phone, the internet via skype, and in person. She hears everything with her golden ear, and she can tell how your posture is just by the sound of your voice. Tricia also has helped me during times when my vocal cords were swollen, and when I had some small thickening of the cords. With proper repair work, and better nutrition I began seeing results immediately. I have grown so much with Tricia’s help and guidance. I joined a band a few years ago, and have been invited as a guest singer with several other bands. Tricia is a superstar in her own right, and I highly recommend Tricia for anyone who is seeking a private coach.

Elizabeth is a perfect voice coach. She took the full free trial class to completely understand my voice and style, and was ready with a plan of attack on my first class. Within 2 classes, I have already corrected two big problems with my voice, and now feel really good and relaxed when singing. Ever the perfectionist, she will drive you till you get it right. Trust her completely and you will improve a lot and quick.

My daughter Sarah was frightened to go before an audience. She even refused to rehearse her lines and sing in front of her parents. We worked with singing and acting coaches, but it was Theresa Finamore that really changed my daughter. Once we started working with Theresa, we dropped all the other coaches. Theresa was positive and vivacious. She brought fun to the whole acting and singing experience. She turned my daughter from a shrinking wall flower to the star of her school musical. The experience with Theresa changed my daughters life. She now has confidence and poise whenever she is in front of an audience.

My experiences with Cynthia are been more than I could have asked for. I have worked with her for the last 6 years and it not only changed my singing, but it also improved my musicianship, work ethic and quality of life. Cynthia uses her professional experience as an established performer and musician to enrich her students and help them transform their instrument. In my experience, Cynthia's approach to teaching is simple and effective. She makes it her goal to pinpoint her students strengths and weaknesses bringing out the best qualities of a singing voice. She knows how to truly connect and know her students. She is more than an instructor, she is a scholar and before you know it, a very good friend. I highly recommend working with Cynthia.

About

I offer a fun, interactive teaching style that encompasses more than 20 years of performing and 15 years of teaching experience. As a performer, I have worked as a professional singer, actor, musician and dancer. I have always had a passion for teaching, directing and composing. While my love for performing has lessened over the years, I have found my true calling: teaching, directing and helping others to find their passion for music and the performing arts. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in interdisciplinary studies with a special emphasis in music, theater, dance and psychology. I am a graduate candidate working on completing my thesis as my final requirement for a Master of Arts degree in music at San Diego State University. I am a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), California Association of Professional Music Teachers (CAPMT) and Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). Lesson Details Good technique, styling and musicianship are very important, but you have got to have fun learning and performing! I channel and encourage each student's creativity while helping him to learn to use his gifts as expertly as possible. My students can be seen on Broadway, Off-Broadway, on television, in commercials, in the movies, and in professional regional theater throughout the United States. I have proudly seen many of my students go on to pursue higher education and careers in music, theater and dance. Studio Equipment Studio/Office: desk, piano, mirrors, sound system, chairs and extensive collection of sheet music and arts related books I teach ages 5-85 and all skill levels. I also teach students with special needs. Parents can sit in on lessons. My specialties are the following: * voice: speech level singing, Broadway music, popular music, classical and speaking * piano: classical, improv, harmonization and songwriting * acting: theatrical acting, acting for the camera, voice over, comedy and improvisation * Other: conducting, ear training, performance coaching, audition coaching and music theory

About

As a former professional dancer myself, I have the ability to take your already-talented and -trained student to the next level, as well as teaching within such a structure that can take you from a beginner to an intermediate in record time. I am lucky to have had a promising career, having danced with the ABT, TBT, and Broadway Tours, as well as numerous productions with well-respected performers such as Sally Struthers, John Vaughn, Debbie Reynolds, Elizabeth Berkeley, Joe Tremaine and more. Ultimately, I turned to acting, working with top talents consistently in TV, film, and theater since. .
