Mario and his brother were so awesome! They arrived on time and were extremely efficient. They were able to move me out of my LA apartment down to my SD apartment in 5 hours including travel time. They also were the most well priced movers I got quotes from and stuck to their original quote with no hidden/additional fees. I was very impressed. I would definitely use them again and refer to friends! Thanks for a smooth and easy move!!

Our movers were great. They communicated with me before the move to make sure they brought everything they would need for our move. They were running 15 minutes late on the day of the move, but gave us a heads up. The two movers were efficient, worked hard and got the job done well. They were also pleasant and in good spirits the whole time which made moving day a little more tolerable. Thank you!

I received two reminder calls: one the day before and the second when the truck was en route. Very reassuring for someone in the middle of juggling a move. The truck arrived 30 minutes early (not late). The two gentlemen were polite and friendly. I appreciate the free wrapping of all my furniture. The only reason for 4/5 stars is that one couch leg was broken (I think it's salvageable but it will require some attention). Would use movers again. Also, the price was just right (and I shopped around).

Frank responded to my request right away. I chose Frank due to his proximity to me and his lower cost compared to other movers. After seeing how hard he worked and the care he took to make sure nothing was damaged, we were happy to pay him more than he asked. He is friendly, a bit chatty (but likeable), professional and he worked hard. Then he drove our large recycle items to the recycle center for us. We would definitely hire Frank again.

From start to finish, the experience was exceptional! The quote was spot-on and reasonably priced. When the movers arrived they did a walk-through and informed me of their plans. Jesse and his crew were awesome and very neat. They carefully wrapped, packed and moved all my apartment belongings to my destination pretty quickly. They even disassembled & reassembled my and my daughters beds. The guys also placed all my furniture where I wanted and connected my washer and dryer. Except for the boxes that I have to go through, my new place is all settled in! What a relief!! After they left, I received a message thanking me for the business and asking if I was satisfied. I certainly was and would recommend News Moving Company to friends and family.

I absolutely loved these guys. They showed up EARLY! Not TOO early but about five to ten minutes ahead of schedule, which I appreciate because when the clock started, they were ready to go. I was disappointed to read some of the other reviews about them changing their cost or having had a theft concern. I don't believe that at all. They came in at the end just very slightly above the quote, but only 45 dollars, and that was my fault because I had them driving east on the 10 from Venice to Hollywood and Highland during rush hour. It was completely understandable. My only regret was not having extra cash in my pocket for their tip. Also, worthy of mention, I had a hard time describing how much they'd be moving because it was a storage unit full of lots of poorly packed crap; some of the pieces were really big and I had forgotten what was in there. I think when we opened the unit it was WAAAAAY more than they had planned on. When they saw it, they looked a bit shocked (even I was) but they never said a world, never complained and made no effort to raise the price. Instead they got right to work and it was A LOT of work. They flew through it. They were really strong and fast but also totally careful and didn't so much as break even one dish regardless of my lousy and careless packing job. I was so impressed with their efficiency. They had plenty of blankets and padding and knew exactly how to safely pack their truck. In another review someone said their truck was small. It was not small at all. It seemed like a pretty big truck to me frankly; and definitely bigger than I expected. They didn't even stop to take a breath at any time during the move, either loading or unloading. As far as their honesty regarding theft..? NO WAY. I didn't feel concerned about my belongings at all. These guys are all about getting the job done. They don't steal. They were full-disclosure and offered me the opportunity to look inside their truck before they left. I didn't even do it because I knew I didn't need to. Subsequently, not one thing is missing. Frank and his assistant are all business and the consummate professionals. I will use them again in the future and I would highly recommend them to any friend or anyone looking for a mover. If you want safe, efficient, honest, hardworking and capable movers for a price that is almost too inexpensive (as I thought they deserved more and wish I'd had it on me), do yourself a favor and hire Frank and his team. You won't be sorry. Thank you Frank and co. for making a day I was dreading into a seamless and positive experience. You guys are the best! Until next time, Jess

He moved a large, heavy credenza. It was turned down by 3 charitable organizations that wasted my time by assuring me on the phone it would be removed, but each time their movers rejected it. Brett is careful, professional and pleasant.

We had a long move from Los Angeles to San Diego, and we were looking for a reasonably priced, no hassle movers. It was a good call for us to hire Mike & Shaw, and the company made it an easy and pain free experience. The guys were professional, efficient, courteous, and were willing to help out in anyway they could. Great communication throughout the whole process, from the initial thumbtack inquiry to the very end of the move. Would highly recommend.

JB Transporters was great and the move went quickly and smoothly. Prior to the move, Jacob was really responsive and answered all my questions. The movers were prompt and got to work right away. Another tenant in our building had movers at the same time, but our movers were fast and efficient with loading and unloading. All the large pieces of furniture were packed safely, and all the boxes that were labeled fragile were handled with care. We would definitely use them again in the future!

I have moved many times and Happy Home Moving company is the best I've ever had. The office staff responded immediately to my inqiry about their services. On the day of the move the movers called 30 minutes before arriving just like they said they would. Upon arrival, the crew got straight to work and didn't dilly daddle at all. The movers were very conscientious and wrapped everything requiring extra protection. I will definitely hire these movers for my next move.

Moving, in itself, is so enormously stressful. It sucks, and I regularly do everything I can during an apartment hunt to avoid moving at all costs - aka, finding a place that I'm going to stay in for as long as possible. But there are moments in life when it's just unavoidable, like when it's time to move into your own home as a single mother. Which means moving stress is inevitable. Conrad is a God sent. I can't even begin to describe how incredibly awesome, wonderful, and hassle-free he made my moving. He finished the unload at my new place about less than 24 hrs ago and OH MY GOD I am so grateful to him and his guys for rocking it. I didn't want to waste money on paying movers to move when I could move them myself, but they were experts with the big and bulky pieces and storage bins and boxes....CONRAD OVER EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS....which was fantastically priced compared to others in the area. I should mention too that my request was last minute yet he immediately offered to show up with his crew, a big broad smile, strong helping hands and very accommodating on price. Even better yet, he did it so fast in the scorching heat. ENORMOUS THANKS AND LOVE to conrad. Truly, you made the conclusion of my move so stress-free and easy that my sorrow of leaving my old place and concern of unpacking in my new place is just totally gone. I will absolutely use you...I hope not....😊 in the future and recommend them to any and all people moving. God bless Leonie

I chose Roadrunner because they responded to my request quickly and gave me the confidence they would do the job within budget. On the move day they let me know they were on their way 30 mins prior to their arrival and showed up within the window of time promised. You get a text confirmation the day prior. The move was completed under the estimated time. The movers were courteous, professional, and worked quickly. Jason, the owner, also checked in periodically to ensure the quality of the work being performed. Do not think twice about hiring Roadrunner for your move. They are good people doing good work, and I would hire them again. Thank you.

I had a simple, one-item move. The owner and movers were very easy to work with and handled my sofa quickly and carefully. I knocked a star off because they said they would be there at 3pm and arrived at 5pm. Also one of the movers reminded me that they work for tips. I understand that movers work really hard so I had already planned to give them one. As you can imagine, I was a bit turned off by that reminder.

Moober moving company does it all!!! Me and my wife were moving from our 3 bedroom home to another beautiful home in Malibu. They came on time which was a 8:30 am on a Sunday.( All my other movers I have choose In the past never showed up at that time!!!!)Moober has great customer service, they came in told them everything I needed to be moved and was going in the truck. That was it they did everything with safety and teamwork. All my furniture was professionally wrapped and put in the truck like Tetris!! Hahah. Moober company moves everything and anything. I have a real heavy Grand Piano and they were able to take it outside wrap it and fit it in truck with no problem. I thought the packing process was fast, but they proved me wrong when they unloaded everything and put it exactly how I wanted. Moober moving company is a great moving company and the best I dealt with. Thank you EJ!!!!!!!!!!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
