They arrived on time and were very friendly. They did a great job on the carpet and did it in a timely manner. I did feel that the overall price was far above price quoted. But I guess all carpet cleaning services may do that.

Liliana did an amazing job with a move-out cleaning for our appt (both deep cleaning + carpet cleaning). She was responsive, punctual, and flexible (we had some last-minute changes in our schedule and she worked with us to sort out all the details). We would definitely hire her again, and have already referred her to others who were impressed with her team's work.

Eric was an absolute delight to work with from the first message he sent to the last handshake before leaving my home! He did an exceptional job (I am so surprised how nice my carpets can look like!), was very respectful, responsive as well as flexible with scheduling. My friends and I will only be going to him for our carpet cleaning needs - he was able to get out some really annoying stains - overall I strongly recommend him and his service! Thank you so much Eric!

After trying without success to get a local carpet installer to call me, I turned to Thumbtack. Within 24 hours Dennis gave me a quote for the carpet work I needed. We talked and Dennis had me on his schedule in less than a week. The job was small but Dennis fixed a poor carpet installation by Home Depot and did nice work at 3 new transitions to new tile work. With his experience, I wish he had installed all my carpet and flooring. Good job.

Fred is great. Friendly, professional, and quick to respond to my inquiries. Background: I had a very overwhelming carpet issue - my landlord tried to clean the carpets, but the person (aka friend) he hired didn't do it properly. The carpet was left sitting wet for 5 days, which meant that the carpet smelled strongly of mildew. It was disgusting. I then paid for the carpets to be re-cleaned, but that didn't help as the carpets were already ruined. This is where Fred came in. I put in a request for carpet installation thinking I may have to pay for the carpets to be swapped if my landlord didn't give in. Fred gave me a reasonable quote over the phone (should I choose to change the carpets) and also spent time advising me on how to approach the conversation with my landlord. This was super helpful and gave me confidence to push for what I knew was right - swapping the mildewy carpets for fresh ones. I didn't end up hiring Fred as my landlord finally agreed to change the carpets, and used another friend of his for the carpet installation. That said, Fred went above and beyond to help me in this stressful situation and for that I'm super thankful. Thanks Fred!

I didn’t know about the different types of carpet until recently when I was challenged to have a stain cleaned in the living room or my landlord was going to charge me $1500 to have the carpet replaced in the living & dining room. Olefin is a type of carpet to NEVER install in high traffic areas — and definitely not rentals. It grabs and traps dirt into the carpet and a special cleaning technique must be used. The landlord had 2 people come in to clean the carpet and tried to convince me it was ruined and couldn’t be cleaned. I researched a carpet cleaning service that treated tough stains and was connected to SupraClean. Sterling came and saw what needed to be done. After he finished he told me the job could have been even better but the prior carpet cleaning made the his work challenging because the wrong product was used. I would recommend SupraClean to everyone. They are professional, reliable, reasonably priced, ethical and has a passion for making sure each client has a great Customer experience. Thank You SupraClean!

Luxor Floors is an overall A+. Once I submitted my project on Thumbtack Luxor Floors reached out to me. Patrick was a pleasure to work with. He came out and was very honest about our floor planning and what he recommended and what would be a waste of money. The type of carpet he suggested for us wasn't your basic type of carpet. Luxor saved us a significant amount of money compared to our first quote by one of the radio advertised retail stores. Once our carpet was delivered Patrick had set up an appointment for installation that weekend. He worked around our schedule to insure we didn't have to miss work. Antonio was the gentleman who removed and installed our carpet and was a pleasure as well. Very respectful and hardworking. All in all I would recommend Luxor flooring to anyone that is looking to upgrade the flooring in the home.

I had a move out inspection on a Thurs night (end of the month) and detected stains and odor in the carpet. We had 2 showings scheduled for late Sat morning so the need for carpet cleaning prior to the showing was critical. I used Thumbtacks to see if I can get anyone out there in such short notice. I had several quotes but Cork was the most responsive and willing to send someone out the next day. They also offered me a first time customer discount. They did a fabulous job removing all the stains and odor. They also found a defect in the installation of the carpet (it is a new installation so I can use the report to go back to the installer). I also found them to be very quick with their responses to all my inquiries and questions. The only neg that i felt was that i wasn't informed ahead of time what their cost included. Apparently it doesn't necessarily cover deodorizing certain odors. That is an additional fee. As a lay person, you assume carpet cleaning includes cleaning the odors. Apparently there are different levels of carpet cleaning & odors may require special treatment. It would have been nice to have been informed prior so that it doesn't come as a surprise later. Other than that, I thought they did a great job on the carpet and appreciate their quick responsiveness.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How much is the cheapest carpet?

If you’re looking to reduce carpet installation costs, there are several ways to save. Start by considering your carpeting needs. Manufactured materials such as polyester and nylon will be cheaper than natural fibers such as wool. From big box retailers, starting prices for olefin-based carpet are approximately 50 cents per square foot — making the cost under $5 per square yard. Indoor carpets made with olefin fibers are typically the least expensive on the market. Keep in mind that olefin fibers are not as soft on bare feet as other fibers, so are often used in areas like basements, playrooms or indoor patios. Nylon and polyester are good options to reduce carpet installation costs while still creating a cozy feel. The face weight, fiber construction and density of a carpet all affect the cost per square foot. The cheapest nylon or polyester carpets can start at just under $2 per square foot, making them about $18 per square yard. Lower-cost carpet tends to wear out more quickly and show stains more easily, so avoid light colors and vacuum regularly to keep the fibers clear of dirt that might age it too quickly.

How much does it cost to install carpet?

If you’re ready to bring new life into your house with a makeover from the ground up, you’re ready to learn more about carpet installation costs. Installation costs vary greatly, depending on a number of factors such as the type of carpet, the number of square yards, any necessary repair work, the number of stairs you have, and where you live. Due to these variables, the national average cost of carpet installation ranges between $200 and $4,500.

To start planning for your new carpet, measure roughly how many square yards of carpet you’ll need. Research the main carpet styles and materials you like to get a feel for what they cost. Nylon carpets are typically the least expensive, and wool is one of the higher-end carpets. Prices per square foot might range from under $2 to over $10, depending on materials. Count the number of stairs you want carpeted; each one might average between $3 and $10 (or more for box steps). Carpet removal can be an added cost as well, averaging $1-$4 per square yard, depending on the company and regional disposal costs.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.
