Private Dance Lessons
Sonly’s passion about dance is contagious! I have taken both her group and private classes. As someone who has been dancing for many years, she helped me focus on technique and core, both central to dance. As I’ve picked up some bad habits over the years, she helped me work on correcting these. She is outgoing, friendly and creative, I always feel energized and more excited about dance after her classes.

Private Dance Lessons
I have been taking lessons for about 10 years from Sonly. She is absolutely the best. Not only is she patient, knowledgeable, skilled at teaching, and fun, she’s also so encouraging and positively supportive. I love her class. She has taught me so much , like using my core, etc.

Dance Entertainment
We hired Sonly for a fun bridal shower for one of our coworkers (who met her fiance through the dance troupe they both participated in as kids). Sonly brought the party to our office and conducted a basic salsa step instruction. Everyone loved her! Sonly's energy made us all want to get moving, even those of us who don't usually dance. She went above and beyond to make our party a success, even helping us in putting up decorations. As someone who had Sonly as a teacher when she was 12, getting to reconnect with her and bring joy to my office was wonderful. My team and I are now trying to figure out events to bring her back! Thank you Sonly for teaching us some moves and celebrating with us!

FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?Sonly is an experienced, professional Cuban dancer, instructor and choreographer born in Havana Cuba. Certifications and Degrees. Antonio Guiteras Holmes Colleague, Havana, Cuba Narciso Medina Dance Academy, Havana, Cuba CPR/AED. Dance Master of California
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I started my dancing journey at five years old when my papa said lets's dance! After, my mom enrolled me in a primary dance school, and i couldn't stop from there... however, below is what you really want to know ;) In 1991, she began to study Afro—Cuban Folkloric dance, modern dance and ballet with the Danza Folkloric of Cuba located at “National Theater”. After high school achievement, Sonly continued her studies in “Tecnicas de Cabaret/Popular Dances” like Salsa, Merengue, Cha—Cha—Cha, Son Guaracha, Mambo, Rumba, GuaGuanco and many more. She graduated from Narciso Medina Dance Academy where at the end of her graduation she preformed as a soloist in the Café Cantante at the National Theater in Havana Cuba. Immediately after that, in 1996, Sonly started to dance professionally with one of the biggest dance companies in Havana Cuba, the Adolfo Guzman Company. Sonly performed at Hemingway Marina, National Cabaret of Prado and many others theaters. While dancing professionally, she also wanted to transmit her knowledge of dance and started teaching both children and adults, and has been teaching since 1998. Sonly came to the United States in 2000, and preformed with many important figures like John Leguizamo and Susana Arenas. Her love for dance has been her continued motivation in life. Currently, Sonly has her own company called IT’S ONLY DANCE. She also teaches 8 classes a week in private studios and big Organization like YMCA, without forgetting to make time for her private lessons students and her event costumers...
- Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take? Here is a success story from Jorge and Grace: Sonly's students go international! The other night Grace & I went salsa dancing with 3 friends at a small club in Granada. There were 2 other couples on the floor when we started dancing. After 1 minute or so both couples stopped dancing & stood near the floor's edge to watch. Then I noticed 10-12 other people that had been seated were now standing & watching us dance. They began to clap & shout. We had to pull out our best stuff. When the song finished they gave us a standing ovation...wow! We were a bit overwhelmed, but waved to thank them. I realized how much you taught us while we were dancing: to listen to the music instead of counting beat. We caught onto some of the accent breaks, we paused when the music stopped and moved when the music resumed. We paid attention :-). Sonly, we owe our continuing improvement in salsa dancing to YOU! Your incorporation of jazz & modern dance movements in our routines enables us to make our salsa dancing, especially freestyle, unique. The dance circle we sometimes do at the end of class helps overcome stage freight by providing the experience of performing in front of other dancers. Muchisimas Gracia, TTJ
