The job went well. He walked in and noticed an old style shutoff valve that might cause problems. Tried to make it work. Eventually had to convert to newer style. Was upfront about all the impact and got the job done.

Arisel was very responsive and flexible in working with my schedule. They were able to install my ceiling fan where there was previously no fixture or electricity. They did good work and cleaned up after completing the job.

Cruz was amazing! He was able to complete our project (blinds installation) plus a bunch more (adding electrical outlets, running cable through a crawl space, fixing door jambs, etc.). He was great to work with, and came back several times to help with other projects. We will definitely hire him again the next time we need a handyman.

Valentin is an excellent communicator. I had to reschedule twice. He was very accommodating. He showed up on time, prepared. He meticulously went through each zone on our system and checked the working condition of each sprinkler. He also trouble shooted two electrical malfunctions, one in the front and one in the back. He re-programmed our system for maximum efficiency. As other reviews state, I affirm, he is extremely professional. I recommend Valentin.

We found Salinas home remodeling services most helpful in several ways. Services done for us included electrical wiring, plumbing installation, wall and ceiling painting with texture applications. Also, bathtub, sink and appliance installation. All work was done at high standards. Note: we also experienced generous and positive attitudes from soft spoken professionals, and received on time service. Above all, we have memories of his installation process that are most rewarding. Thank You, Mr. Vyron Salinas and his helper Pablo. Yours truly, Nicholas Adkins

Gustavo and his crew are outstanding in the quality of their work, their work ethic (reliability, promptness) and depth of experience. I had them do an electrical job for me (that had baffled 2 prior teams), a huge garden job including building planters and a compost bin for a new organic edible garden, irrigation, cover for the air conditioner unit, painting the backyard fence, misc odd jobs etc. I plan to hire them again for a large lighting job and other items on my to-do list. They deserve more than 5 stars!

I am very happy with Pedro's work. He showed up at the exact time he said he would, and he worked efficiently to install new gutters for my home. He also cleaned the gutters for another home of mine, and was kind enough to trim tree branches that were causing a mess in those gutters --- that goes to show you that he cares about the services he provides and goes above and beyond expectations. He was sure to not leave any debris behind on both jobs and was very polite and respectful. He also has experience in electrical, plumbing, painting, and general handyman work. I will definitely hire him again!

We hired Eli for a total interior renovation of our newly purchased home, including changing the layout of our first floor, adding a half bath, 2 full bath and 1 kitchen reno, hardwood floor, HVAC, roofing, repiping & electrical work. Total value of the project exceeded 140K, and lasted ~ 4 months. Eli & team delivered good quality work and kept us at our budget. He is a professional with high integrity. He was always responsive, provided helpful, thoughtful and truthful advice, and committed to his promises. Our journey together wasn't without hiccups, but Eli is someone you can trust as a partner battling any challenges together along the way.

Juan remodeled our unfinished attic space (about 700+ sq ft) from top to bottom and turned it into a new office studio. He laid out the framework, ran electrical wires, put up insulation and drywall, painted and stained, added window trim, installed hardwood flooring and baseboards, and added storage cabinets. He was able to finish our attic in three weeks, and for a very reasonable price. He is a very hard worker, and really creative with his solutions. He always had helpful advice for me when I wasn't sure what decisions to make. He is now our go to contractor when we need work done around the house. I highly recommend him for his work quality, professional etiquette, and ease of communication. I am very happy with the work he is done, and can't wait to work with him again.

Good Value, High Quality, Efficient Work. We recently bought a house and called on Lifetime Remodeling to help us with a kitchen remodel and replacing the old roof. My wife and I are inevitably more difficult as clients than your average homeowner is, but we could not have been more impressed with Lifetime Remodeling. Firstly, their pricing knocked the competition out of the park, and the completeness and detail in their proposal and scope of work is like nothing I've seen before from contractors . As a home owner we were initially wary of having an additional external project manager on site, but Samuel and Matan from Lifetime Remodeling are absolutely fantastic: knowledgeable, reliable, resourceful and respectful of our role to design the project. The work itself was performed to a really high standard: the crew were excellently coordinated by Frank the foreman; they came when they were supposed to; and were clean and tidy. I would have no hesitation whatsoever in recommending them to others.

Dominick was awesome - within minutes of his original response to my listing for electrical work, he was able to stop by and quote the project...then he came the next day and got everything done...my project was done within 24 hours of posting on Thumbtack! During the project, Dominick was professional, great about communicating status and providing options, and completely respectful of the space. He made sure to put down tarp, clean up afterwards, etc. I'm already working on new projects to send his way, and would absolutely recommend him to anyone.

Summary: On time, on budget, no surprises. Nobel Construction was recommended by our solar installer. (We also contacted Yelp-recommended roofers closer to Menlo Park, but they were booked a year out.) A representative came out when scheduled, showed us alternatives in our local area and generally took care of everything in a reasonable and timely manner. City permitting was 100% dealt with. After hearing all of our options we chose to have the roof repaired/restored with a fairly new product and procedure.....100% Silicone Roof Coating. It is a white reflective coating that looks great and has already saved us hundreds in our electricity bill right off the top. The product is warrantied for 50 years and was much less expensive than the other roofing options. The crew were polite and efficient. It's a noisy job, but they were respectful of the neighbors. We had no issues with communications, billing, or paperwork. The city inspector was happy with everything he saw and all in all it was a win-win!

Mark was wonderful to work with. He responded quickly to messages on Thumbtack and via text. He was punctual and flexible with our schedule. He walked through everything with us, listened to our concerns and needs, and worked with us to stay within our budget and timing, and sequenced projects accordingly. He also has a great sense of humor and was pleasant to talk with. We were very happy with his work and the work of the professionals he worked with for electrical, plumbing, and painting. The work that was done: removal and replacement of 2 windows, walls, and flooring where there was water damage, wood rot, and the start of mold; adding a door to access the space under the front stairs and creating a storage space with tiled floor and drywall; waterproofing / sealing the brick of our front steps and porch; removing carpeting and laminate flooring and installation of new laminate flooring; installing siding on the front of our house and painting of the front of the house (2 stories); texturizing and painting walls; installing a wet bar / kitchenette; replacing shower pan, tile, and shower door; removal of tree and bushes in front yard. I think that’s everything. We highly recommend Mark and would happily work with him again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
