How does your service stand out?

With a career in therapeutic bodywork and personal training that started in 1998, I specialize in helping my clients be able to enjoy their daily life by being stronger, experiencing less chronic pain and having move vitality and energy. I use all the skills I've learned as a massage therapist, personal trainer, kettlebell instructor, group exercise instructor and GYROTONIC instructor to help help my clients reach their goals of being able to enjoy their weekends, time with their kids or grandkids, recreational activities and making activities of daily life something they don't hesitate in doing.

What do you enjoy about the work you do?

I like hearing from my clients when they are no longer feeling a pain that's been bothering them for a long time, or when they excel at their favorite recreational sport like golf.

Mike addressed my specific requests on Thumbtack, unlike other trainers. He worked with me to provide varied full body activities that relate to my goals, strength/ weaknesses, and worked with my minimal equipment. He wrote up what we did so I could remember everything and keep up the workout at home. He is precise, knowledgeable, and did a good job cuing to improve my form. Each session his understanding of what I needed improved. Thank you!

I had a hip repair surgery in August 2012 and had 4 months of physical therapy but was left with minimal range of motion in my hip and weak hip muscles. I continued to walk with a limp. I began seeing Mike in Dec. 2012 for Gyrontonic. He did an excellent assessment and tailored my weekly sessions with exercises to improve my range of motion, strengthen the muscles, and walk with a more normal gait. I made more progress in 4 months with Mike than I had with the PT. To make a long story short, Mike moved back to San Francisco, the osteoarthritis in my hip progressed and I had a total hip replacement. I was home from the hospital in less than 24 hours, walking with a walker. I had an order for home PT 3 times a week for 3 weeks. The physical therapist was amazed at how well ( and painlessly) I was able to do the exercises. I advanced through the full range of exercises normally used for patients after a hip replacement. Less than 2 weeks after the surgery, I was able to walk without a cane both indoors and outdoors, drive and go up and down a full flight of stairs. The PT discharged me after 5 sessions( rarely done). My therapist was extremely impressed by my rapid progress. After telling her my story, including the exercises Mike used, she credits my rapid recovery to the work I did with Mike. I have no doubt that is the case.

Mike is an excellent Gyrotonic trainer, and I highly recommend working with him if you want to increase fluidity of movement and strength in your body. My sessions with Mike have significantly improved my back pain and range of motion throughout my body. He emphasizes proper form during the exercises and and provides adjustments as needed to maintain that form. I really appreciate the level of focus and passion he brings to his sessions!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
All GYROTONIC instructors are required to take an update course every two years. This allows us to keep up with changes in the foundation work and lets us have time with master trainers. But it's always fun to take a full teacher training again, too. My most recent was the entire GYROKINESIS foundation training (11 days) in April of 2012. And with my personal training, I'm constantly looking into and researching all the new gadgets that come out (like TRX and kettlebells) and networking with others in my field to get new idea and techniques for making my clients' lives better.
How did you get started doing this type of work?
I was already a massage therapist in 1998 and one of my clients was a GYROTONIC instructor. We started doing trades and after my fifth session, as I was walking home, it felt like there were little springs in my hips joints. I've always been very mobile and flexible but had never felt that freedom in my hips. I immediately decided to take the teacher training and become a GYROTONIC instructor.
