Cesar came by the next day after I requested a quote to replace my roof ridge caps and gave me a very competitive price and included painting the metal fittings on the roof, cleaning out the gutters as well. He also pointed out examples of non-ideal work by the previous roofers that he fixed as well. On the day of the job, he and his crew arrived on time, completed the job and cleaned up after themselves. I'm very satisfied with the quality of the work, especially with the promptness of his replies to my messages. I'd definitely hire him again for any roof work that I have.

Mr Aguilar responded very quickly by phone and was able to schedule my repair for the next day. He was very quick to come and look at what was needed. He found other items that rquired attention, clearly showing us what was needed. The price was very reasonable. Mr Aguilar communicated everything clearly to us in a very friendly way. We highly recommend this roofer for all your roofing needs!

We sought bids from several roofers on Thumbtack, but most of them either missed their appointments or came late, completely unprepared to examine the roof or otherwise investigate our problem. Only Franco's Roofing showed up on time, ready to look at the roof. Within an hour they were showing us cellphone photos of our problem. We hired them and found them to be respectful, reliable, and skilled. Their repairs did the trick. Good guys!

I worked with Geo to replace/repair most of my roof in Los Altos. He and his team exceeded my expectations. 1. Price/ Value - I received quotes from a few folks, professional roofers and general contractors. Geo had a very competitive price and strong reviews. He did a high quality job and threw in a bunch of extras too. 2. Knowledgeable - Geo knows his stuff - if you have any type of issue (I had window leaks, ceiling leaks), you want an expert. He was quick to identify areas that were missing flashing, exposed nails, etc. - and he guarantees his work. 3. Communication - Geo was present at the job site everyday and called at the end of the day to check on the job. He's also easy to get in-touch with via phone/ text. 4. Values/ Customer Service - Family business, polite team, and Geo puts the customer first. For example, he and his team stayed an extra 2 hours on a Friday to take care of an extra request from me and wouldn't except any extra payment. In addition, he was honest about which areas of the roof didn't need to be replaced. Really exceptional customer service.

I had my gutters cleaned. Way overdue; wanted done sooner rather than later. This operation is a male/female team (married couple?). Caroline is the admin/scheduling & clean up, Christian provides the rooftop labor. She told me they might be able to fit me in the next day, but unsure because of existing project/ unknown completion time. Caroline kept me informed of their progress the whole day, so communication was great. Price was very fair (cash or check). Actual service was fast. He scooped out the junk from gutters and off the roof; she swept it up/bagged it & they took it away. Also offered to hose off the exterior walls. Only thing I was not able to confirm is whether he/they have a contractor's license, something I always check for anything I do on my house. Thumbtack was utterly useless for that purpose; I was told by them that they leave it to the pro to list any info they want - Thumbtack apparently does NOT independently verify anything about their referrals. So, these folks showed up and he was literally on my roof, getting busy before I could even ask. She had called (I didn't hear phone from other room), then knocked on the door, asked for a broom and also got very busy, he was already on the roof. Not necessarily everything requires a license, but someone who does "roofing" should have one and the insurance/ bonding protections that go with it. And he/they may in fact have it, I just couldn't confirm it and I didn't press because it was just a gutter cleaning. Happily, there were no negative matters that may have raised insurance or bonding issues. Well, at least not that I know of - I didn't exactly climb onto the roof to check! (Reminds me: should have/could have asked for some cell phone pics of his work; that would've been easy ...) But I know the work was done because actual seedlings of some kind growing out of the gutters were visible from outside (!!) and are all gone. Also, I watched as TONS of junk came flying off in front of my living room window, and from back onto my deck and on the sides onto walkway pavement. I would definitely use them again for gutters and probably ask for pics of work performed in places I can't get to. Very pleasant and professional.

He was professional, quick to respond and available -- even when most roofers were not. I need to await another storm to assess the workmanship of the project but at this point, I would use him again.

I was really happy with the results of this roofing project. Carlos, the project manager and supervising roofer, came to my house to assess the work and give me an estimate quickly. He was prompt, professional, and very knowledgable. He was able to quickly assess the issue and suggest a remedy. Within 48 hours, he supplied estimate with 3 separate options for the project. He was easy to reach when I had questions and once I accepted the bid, the work was scheduled quickly. On the work day, he and his crew showed up right on time and work was completed on time and as promised. Carlos is a nice guy, straightforward and professional all the way. Would definitely hire again.

I must say that I was quite apprehensive about hiring someone to do my roofing work... There are so many contractors to choose from out there... All I can say is that I am so glad that I hired Daniel ... and I can't thank him enough for the amazing job he did, respecting the budget and the timeframe he initially came up with. I can't think of anything negative to say about his professionalism and work ethic. Punctual, extremely detail oriented, eager to please his customer with a job well-done, quality is definitely his forte. He really goes beyond expectations. Like: some of the eaves needed to be replaced but were painted with a certain color, to match the remaining ones he went to a paint shop with a sample and got the paint mixed so it would match the rest... I am going to hire him again later this year for another projet I have for my house... and I already know that I will be beyond happy with the end Result. THANK YOU Daniel!!!!

Jon came to my house to clean the gutters and investigate the reason of roof leak we had. He cleaned the gutters and sealed in one area where it was rusted. Even though he couldn’t find the real reason of the leak, he carefully looked around, and explained what he did to identify the issue. He saw only minor issues, which were not the likely culprit. He took pictures to show us what he saw. He did not try to sell us a random and costly solution, which might not even fix the leak. He referred us to another roofer, who could better help. Jon was easy to communicate with, and was punctual, and professional. I would recommend working with him

I interviewed 8-10 roofers before choosing IB Roofing. Israel is on it - professional, detailed, and cares about his work. His team arrived on time and got done very quick. Only time will tell how well they have sealed everything, but judging on our walkthrough and their work, I think I’ll be having a well insulated rainy season!

Rob was great. He first came over to quote for the job and provided a more comprehensive solution to the problem than the other roofer that quoted. He showed up on time a few days later and completed the job in a couple of hours. Highly recommended!

Helen W Alameda, August 2016 I am very satisfied with the work SRS did for me. I lived in another house for 30 years, I had two roofs installed and they lasted approximately 15 years each. This is the first time I used SRS at my current residence and I have a feeling this roof may last twice as long as the last ones. The previous roofers were in and out in about a couple of weeks more or less. I really didn’t know what was going on then except that the new roof looked good. I paid for a new roof and that is what I got. The SRS job took longer to finish, but it seems I got more value for what I spent with their detailing. They did extra work tearing off additional layers of roofing, they completed extensive dry rot and carpentry work at the roof perimeter that was needed and installed extra flashings to prolong the life of some adjacent beams. The thing that separates SRS from the previous roofers is that Kasra, the owner of SRS, would explain everything to me daily on his job. He worked side by side with the roofers to insure everything was done correctly. He would regularly point out areas of concern on my roof. I could take care of it now, do it myself, hire them to do it or just catch it later. He also stated the pros and cons of delaying the work. My feeling is this is my house and I want to know how and when to take care of it. The best suggestion he made was to install a skylight in the garage and a sun tunnel in the darkest area of the house. In hindsight, I should have gotten these two items done years ago and now I cannot live without having free solar lighting. If you want a roofer who can explain everything to you when necessary then Sustainable Roofing Solutions is who you want for your next roofing job.

You only want to have to replace your roof once, and it can be difficult to find a quality roofer. Bay Valley Contractors is the best roofing company in the East Bay. They deliver on time, are extremely responsive, and while they work your property is left in suck a clean state that you won't realize work is being done! Since Bay Valley Contractors sets such a high bar for quality construction, I will only work with them for future projects.

First winter rainstorm + roof leak = almost impossible to get roofers to return your call. But not Sergio. He was very quick to respond, came out to the house right away, quickly identified the problem, and his guys showed up a few days later and fixed it FAST. Would 100% call him again!

Well priced compared to other contractors. Worked with the problem and didn't try to inflate the project, like other contractors tried to do. Glad I went with Wang's roofing. Project took a little longer than expected, and a little rough around the edges, but happy with the end result and would recommend Wang's roofing.

The biggest challenge with hiring roofers and general contractors is finding someone you can trust. I'm happy to say that I have 100% trust in Nicholas, and he'll be the one I call with any house issues ever again. Nicholas is courteous, honest, and extremely knowledgeable. We called him on Saturday morning with a problem, and he was here by Saturday afternoon, and worked on the problem until almost midnight so that it would be completely fixed. We had talked to other companies who provided advice and quotes, and we found Nicholas's assessment to be more thorough, and his prices more reasonable. He looked out for our best interests, explained his thought process clearly, and was diligent in making sure that the entire problem was solved, not just a superficial fix. We had a drainage pipe that was overflowing due to the heavy storms, after his inspection Nicholas explained that some areas we had a standing water on our roof. They did a great job to resolve the problem, they adjusted the slope of the roof and apply specialized coating for the roof. It's nice to know that the work that got done was necessary, reasonable, and performed with a tremendous degree of professionalism.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
