Hatch Music Studio

Introduction: Hatch Music Studio is the individualized music teaching and coaching practice of Jeremy Hatch, a performer and educator based in Portland, Ore. I have an extensive background in guitar and piano performance, composition, songwriting, theory, and improvisation, and have been teaching students from the age of 4 up since 2001. I primarily teach piano and guitar (acoustic and electric) in several genres, primarily folk, rock, pop, jazz, and classical, from beginner to an advanced level. I also teach beginner fiddle, ukulele, and bass guitar. I have been studying both guitar and piano for about 30 years and I have been teaching both instruments full-time since 2013. A lifelong musician, I studied classical piano as a child and teen; at one point working towards a career as a concert pianist before my interest turned to jazz, blues, and pop styles. Along the way, I also learned guitar in a similar fashion, studying classical guitar (and recording a CD of classical music) before learning popular styles. Today, I specialize in acoustic folk, Americana, and jazz. I'm an active performer, soundtrack composer, and songwriter. As an educator, I have several years of experience teaching all ages in a one-on-one setting, from the age of 4 up. My teaching experience includes employment at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz for two years as a music theory and improvisation tutor.
