FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
I stopped charging an hourly or day rate because as a creative person I like to take my time, and it hardly feels fair charging a rate waiting for inspiration to strike. So instead I generally charge a pay-in-advance set-up/booking fee, and then a low per-image price thereafter. The per-image price covers all aspects of the shoot including editing and processing.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I spend 8-10 hours per week researching new methods, tips, tricks, and technologies. I am an early-adapter of new tech, and I am constantly adding new gear to my collection and trying new methodology. I also involve myself in several popular digital photography boards on the internet, and I am an active member of two photography groups that meet once a month and discuss the business and art of photographic documentation.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have had an interest in photography my entire life. I have been doing this since I was a child and built homemade pinhole cameras and developed my own pictures in my bedroom closet. I have been shooting and printing and hiding my work for years. About 10 years ago a friend stumbled upon one of my portfolios and persuaded me that my work was worth showing off because of what it says, and since I generally love people, the whole thing diverged into what I represent and do today. I put my whole heart into my work, and some jobs accordingly end up with me losing money BUT gaining the sense that my life has a deeper meaning and purpose, so it all works to my great advantage in the end.
