Roy created a public speaking class for the corporate training department back at the previous place that I worked. He would assign simple topics such as “What’s your favorite activity? What do you do to de-stress?” each week and we would just talk about them in a conference room.
Each week Roy would give tips and comments on our performance and also have us practice various skills such as stage movement, hand gestures, pauses, and eye movement. When I presented my first of these mini-speeches in front of everybody, I was super nervous, such that I was staring at the floor a lot of the time and my speech came out very monotonous. At the end of the six-week training, I was able to deliver a very natural and fluent speech with confidence and a smile, as well as utilize my hand gestures to convey emotion and grab the audience's attention.
Overall, the six-week training was highly beneficial and I would recommend anyone who wants to improve their public-speaking skills to take a session with Roy, especially those who suffer with Glossophobia.
