I found The Hunter School of Music through an article in the San Jose Mercury. It gave an address that was right down the street from me! I went to the school's website, sent an e-mail and got a prompt reply. I am delighted with my teacher, Brian Ciach. I am grateful to have met Amy and I look forward to learning to play the piano and be immersed in a world of music! Amy is great at finding and communicating upcoming musical events relevant to beginning students and those more accomplished. Brian is a wonder at composition and regularly performs and writes original music. Lesson prices are very reasonable. I think myself lucky for finding Amy and Brian!Sep 23, 2015
Great instruction and innovative approach that has really helped me achieve my goals. Adaptive teaching style for adults. 10/10Sep 14, 2015
About a 2 years ago I decided to take piano lessons as an adult for the first time. I did a lot of searching online for the best fit. I found that Amy Hunter Piano School had very reasonable pricing and was a good fit for a more personalized lesson structure. I am extremely happy with her school. She works with me to tailor my lessons to the music I am interested and my long term goals for playing piano, learning music theory, composing and improvising. She continues to develop my skills at playing piano. She sets goals for me and I get weekly assignments which helps keep me accountable. She offers many different lesson duration options and is very accommodating if I need to reschedule a lesson. I also love that she has all her students perform in a recital a couple times a year and offers certifications. She also offers group performance opportunities for you to work out stage fright. She helps me focus on a goal and allows me to learn songs that I can then play for family and friends later. Amy is very skilled at teaching all age levels and I always feel comfortable working with her and asking questions. I highly recommend her to anyone; if you have had a previous teacher or if you are a beginning student, she works with you to tailor your lesson to fit you. She's amazing!Mar 16, 2016

- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? We discuss with you what your musical goals are. Is there a particular style of music you are interested in? Are there particular pieces that you want to play? Are you trying to improve a certain aspect of your playing? Once we have discussed that with you and shown you other possible interests we design a curriculum specifically for you to help you improve. Each lesson is designed for the individual student.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?I have a bachelor degree and master degree in piano performance and I am a member of Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC), and Music Teachers National Association (MTNA). Both of these organizations have music magazines, yearly conventions, meetings, opportunities for our students, and other furthering education opportunities for teachers.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I have always loved music. As a child I wanted to play the piano. I also learned the flute, and as a young adult the organ. When I was in high school I had an incredible private piano teacher and was also surrounded by great music teachers in my school. There was no doubt that I wanted to become a musician because I wanted my work, something that would be taking up many hours of my life, to also be something I enjoy and care about. I've never regretted this decision. I feel fortunate to fill my day with what I love doing. I also enjoy how diverse it is being a musician. I can teach, perform, collaborate with many people, and there's no end to what you can learn on your instrument. I absolutely love teaching and helping others create music.
