I had a spring break on my garage door. I needed immediate repair so I was stuck. I got a call from Matthew and he asked me to take a couple pictures of the bent rail and garage door. He responded with a quote and said he could be over shortly. There was no up charges or I need to see it first. He arrived on time fixed it professionally and was cordial and personable. I can tell he was trained with customer service and courtesy first. I would highly recommend him for any garage door service. I will definitely let all my neighbors, friends and family know about Matthew and the quality of work at very reasonable prices.

Milko did extensive painting with prep work, including some very high walls. He also built a beautiful trash enclosure near the front of our property, plus large storage shelves in our garage. All of the workmanship was top-notch. He was always responsive and punctual, and kept us well-informed on progress and next steps. I'm sure we'll have reason to hire him again in the future.

I hired Jasper to build a custom storage bench for me, and a modern barn door. Jasper responded to my post and came by to see the space prior to giving me a quote. He took my ideas and made some suggestions, and drew me a plan of what the pieces would look like. He was also able to find wood that matched my existing wooden floors and mango wood furniture very well. The bench he built fits perfectly in my space and looks seamless. The barn door is very modern (just what I wanted) and looks fantastic in my room. He also kindly offered to come by in a month to ensure that there was no issues and adjust anything to my liking once I have had time to use the pieces. Overall turnaround from the time he responded to my Thumbtack post to delivery of items was less than 2 weeks.

Moe arrived promptly as scheduled to quote the job. His price was reasonable and he had the needed equipment with him. The job took 45 minutes and we have a new quiet garage door. He offered add-ons but was not pushy about getting us to purchase them. I would highly recommend him for your garage door needs.

I was embarrassed when I hit my old garage door on Friday. I had called other garage door companies and they could not come out for a few days. I called Precision and a representative (Aris) who came out that evening and made it possible to shut my jammed door. On Monday morning Luis showed up and worked very hard installing a beautiful new door. There service was professional and I will continue to use them if every necessary. I will recommend them to any friend. There Great!!!!

Very happy with the work KJ did on our garage door. He was schedule the work next day and arrived on time. He explained what needs to be done and how much it would cost (no different than what he quoted earlier). He finished the job on time. The garage door works perfectly now. I called a few companies to get a quote for a garage door at my house. The customer service from other nearby garage companies I found was good but it just felt like I hadnt found the right fit. Then I called Vulcan. The scheduler at the company was professional, friendly and attentive. A field tech came out and surveyed my door and listned to my particular needs and then gave me options at different price levels from entry level to elite. I decided on a door and we scheduled the install. The installer was on time, professional and cleaned up after himself. He even helped me move some old furniture that was in the way. The garage door is EXACTLY what I wanted and is as quite as a knife through butter. Several neighbors have complimented me on the door. I am extremely happy with my door and would hire them again in a hearbeat.

Melvin is a licensed and experienced installer of garage door opening systems. He put in a LiftMaster with Wifi, replacing our 25 year old Genie system. He showed up early and worked for two hours. He took our old unit away. And he left his business card near the button so that if there is any problem we can call him. His price was 150 to 200 dollars less than his competitors for the same unit. And he's really nice. We are glad to give him our business.

Wais and Sergey did a great job replacing our manual garage door with an automatic one! We have 1 car garage, with low clearance, so they had to make a lot of adjustments to make it work. They did so without any complains. Due to all the adjustments, it took longer than the time Wais had quoted, but they were determined to finish it on that day. Thanks to these sincere workers! I'd recommend them without hesitation!

We live in a semi rural area and are invaded by gophers and rats. Ray has been working to help eliminate the problem He comes once a month to my house and also to my rental house. He works very hard and has cut down on the population of these rodents. He is always pleasant and willing My golden retriever loves him! He is always careful to close all the gates when he leaves . I do wish that Ray would alert me to the day and time that he will be coming so I could open the garage door for him so he can exchange the rat bait boxes. To be honest I have not remembered to ask him to call or E Mail me regarding this issue. Ray has helped me with my gopher and rat population. He has been coming once a month for over a year.He is always pleasant and willing. My golden retriever loves him! He is always careful to close all the gates when he leaves.I would highly recommend him. i would recommend RAy.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you fix a broken garage door?

Garage door problems don’t have to mean the end of the world. Garage door repair is typically a one-day process and can be done for only a few hundred dollars. Common garage door repair requests include fixing slow or erratic garage doors, addressing strange sounds coming from the garage door or motor, fixing cosmetic damage such as dents or scrapes, repairing broken doors that are stuck open or closed, and troubleshooting inoperable doors.

The two main garage door operating mechanisms are sectional roll-ups or tilt-ups. Garage door repair services can fix single-car, double-car or RV-height doors. Your garage door may be made of wood, steel, aluminum, masonite, vinyl, fiberglass or another material. The type of garage door repair you need really depends on the type of garage door you have and the issue at hand. Garage door repair pros often charge a flat service call fee to diagnose the problem and provide an estimate. For customers who choose to have the repair done, the service call fee may be applied to the first hour of labor (including time to make the diagnosis). If your garage door is under warranty, the repair may be free of charge.

    Who repairs garage doors?

Garage door repair is a specialized job, which is typically handled by a garage door repair service. Professional garage door repair technicians can test or repair a garage door system and fix cosmetic blemishes on doors. Common requests include help with jammed or inoperable doors, slow or erratic doors, unusual sounds, dents or scrapes on the door, and general system testing. Garage door repair professionals can work on single-car, double-car and RV-size garage doors.

How much does it cost to get a garage door fixed?

The national average for garage door repair cost is between $80 and $110. Some of the factors that affect your garage door repair cost are the type of springs (most often torsion or extension), the size and weight of the door, and the door material. Many garage door pros will charge a service fee to visit your house and determine the problem. Often, the service fee includes a set amount of labor. One example of this is an $80 service fee that includes the first hour of work plus testing and inspecting your garage door and garage door opener, while another pro may charge $150 for the same standard service call.

Broken or jammed springs are a common problem. In one example, the starting price for spring repair was $99, while another pro’s cost started at $185. The $185 starting price included $40 for transportation costs, $60 for parts, and $85 per hour of labor. Professionals may charge extra for late-night garage door repair emergencies.

How much is it to replace a garage door panel?

Replacing a garage door panel can add significantly to the cost of a garage door repair. Panels run horizontally on sectional roll-up garage doors. They may be made of wood, vinyl, aluminum, fiberglass or steel. Garage door panels can become damaged from hail and other extreme weather, dents and dings, car accidents, and age. When deciding if you want to replace a garage door panel, it’s helpful to compare the potential repair cost to the cost of a new garage door. Panel replacement requires a pro with the proper tools as well as the new parts. With parts and labor you could be paying more than $500 for one new panel. In comparison, a new garage door may cost $800-$1,200 (on average) with installation. If there is a possibility your garage door was structurally compromised when the panel was damaged, have the pro assess whether it’s better to completely remove and replace the door, rails and framework to ensure your home’s safety. It may also be better to completely replace your door if it is severely rusted or dented; if the paint is peeling and fading; if the door model is outdated or you can’t find replacement panels; or if the panels or rails are structurally compromised.

How much should it cost to replace a garage door cable?

If your garage door is not opening or has become jammed, you may need to replace the garage door cables. Unless you have the proper tools and know-how, this is a job best left to a professional due to the weight of the garage door and the extreme tension of the springs. The cost of repair will vary depending on your location, the length of the cables you need, and the time it takes the pro to do the replacement.

From a big-box store, basic garage door cables can run between $8 and $20, depending on the product. Your pro may charge you a different cost if they provide the cables. Your cables may not need to be replaced if they have simply come off the track, but broken cables will need to be completely removed and replaced. In either instance, the pros will need to secure or take down the door; unwind the springs; reset or replace the rollers, cables, and drums; and then wind the springs once more. For example, a pro could reset cables that have come off the track for $129.99. The average national cost for a garage door repair specialist is $80 - $110 per hour and the typical cost to replace a broken garage door cable is anywhere from $130 to $200.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
