Elite responded quickly and Curtis was sent out the next day to my home, well dressed and educated. Always was nervous about having a stranger in my home but Curtis was very trustworthy. I told the manager that Curtis was one of the most professional people I have met. English writing and Spanish tutoring has never been this easy

Nando is the best spanish teacher ever. He can teach you in so many different ways ! It is really fun. He instantly adapts to your way of learning. I have had several tutors and i am not saying the others were bad, but Nando is definitely my FAVOURITE ! You could definitely pay him more than he is asking for since the quality you get from his lessons is superior to any other private courses in language schools.

Kristina is a warm, wonderful person who works with my son, a high school senior. She has always been super-nice to work with and pleasant. Her rates for Spanish tutoring are very reasonable. Most importantly, she genuinely cares about meeting my son where he was, finding his needs and trying hard to meet them. I highly recommend her for Spanish tutoring.

Nicolas worked with my son on his high school math. My son was having a terrible time in his classes, and Nicolas acted as a guide and tutor though the years. He was very patient and understanding, and always arrived on time for the tutoring sessions. In the end, my son wound up with A's and B's in the classes, and was accepted to his first-choice college. Thanks, Nicolas!

Chris has tutored my HS sophomore daughter in Spanish II since September 2017. She worked to understand what foundational elements were missing and quickly established a program of lessons to address the gaps. As a result, my daughter's grade has improved from C- to A- ! I am beyond impressed with this progress, and give Chris an "A" as well. Her clear communication, flexibility, and engaging manner are of value to me as a parent, and have helped my reluctant and shy teen rebound to a capable student with greater confidence and ability. Chris' extensive language background adds flavor and history to lessons, an added bonus. I highly recommend Chris for Spanish tutoring!

Gina taught me Spanish. I mean, zero-to-sixty, fumbling-to-functional, honest-to-goodness Spanish within months. She is an excellent teacher, able to adapt to whatever works best, and also (perhaps more importantly) able to change it up for people like me who get bored easily. In the mood for drills? She's got drills. Want to just have a conversation? She can make it challenging and fun. She has lived in several different Spanish-speaking countries, so she can also give you insight into culture, local customs, and dialects. She can change teaching strategies at the drop of a hat (I think I caused a lot of hats to be dropped) and is always a pleasure to work with. I really could not recommend anyone more highly. If you want to learn Spanish, you should be calling Gina.

I took many semesters of German at College of San Mateo with Dr. Raney and she was by far one of the best German professors I've ever had the privilege of knowing. She is patient, brilliant, and very creative in the way in which she teaches a foreign language. She encouraged me and gave up much of her own time to support my desire to improve my language skills. Her dedication and knowledge of German (and I assume in other languages too) is amazing.

Darya tutored and advised me throughout my senior year of high school and my first year at college. Having Darya by my side throughout the stress of a year and a half journey has had a significant impact in my life. Although Darya's main responsibility was to tutor me for my Advanced Placement (AP) Literature class, she went above and beyond to what I expected of an English tutor. She helped me find my inner voice as a writer through tutoring me about grammar, organization, and vocabulary. She also helped boost my confidence as an underprivileged Latina studying in the STEM field as a computer science major at the University of California: Santa Cruz. I passed both my AP Government and AP Literature classes and tests which is significant because both required a heavy amount of analytical writing; I graduated high school with honors and with the highest cumulative grade point average (GPA), 3.7, at any time of my academic career. One week before I was going to take my SAT for the third time, I mentioned to Darya that I was struggling understanding a large portion of the Math section of the test. To my surprise, she was thoroughly capable skilled in tutoring me in math, along with English. In less than seven days, Darya was able to successfully prepare me for my last SAT test; subsequently, my SAT score improved by more than 100 points. If we had more time to go through the preparation book, I could have further surpassed this amazing progress. Another aspect in which Darya supported me in my college application and preparation process was in guiding me to refine my college essays for both private and public universities: as a result, I was accepted to more than half of the colleges that I applied to. Finally, I am most grateful for Darya and her efforts towards my success because of the high number of scholarships that I received in the second semester of my senior year in high school. Through Darya’s excellent editing and writing abilities, I was able to accumulate more than $200,000 in scholarship rewards from four different organizations. I could never have imagined this much triumph before meeting Darya; without these scholarship awards, I would have been forced to work during my breaks and during school to afford a college education. Now, all that I have to worry about is learning as much as I can while I am at UCSC. On account of my strong achievements in less than a year with Darya, I still utilize the many tips and lessons that she has instilled in me. As a result of this, I excelled in my classes at UCSC with a cumulative GPA of 3.6. Because of my outstanding academic success in the first quarter of college, I was exclusively invited by the university to apply to the College Scholars Program; this two-year program selects 20 students out of about 200 students applying from each college at UCSC to help give them meaningful academic challenges. Not only do I recognize Darya as one of the most significant people in my life because of my solid academic accomplishments, but also due to the genuine passion she holds to be sure that her tutees succeed. As her tutee, she constantly reminded me of my own abilities to encourage my confidence. We are still in contact today which further demonstrates her enthusiasm for her tutees. She is evidently benevolent, motivated, and intelligent, and I highly recommend her tutoring and guidance talents to any student who is fortunate enough to be her tutee.

About

I have taught school for many years. I am familiar with the common core standards and entrance and exit standards of specific grade levels. It is all about helping the student improve and thereby boost his/her self-esteem and confidence in the areas in which I tutor them. As a teacher, I had tremendous test scores. Four of my five "children" (now adults) have received the presidential academic award. I attended very difficult college prep school prior to college which provided me with stellar skills. I have had several years of Latin, French, and Spanish, as well as the usual repertoire of subjects.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
