I had Jennifer give me a massage right after the Nike Women's marathon. It was THE BEST decision I made. I believe because of her great massage therapy I was able to recover more quickly from the event and not be as sore as I thought I would be. I prefer really firm massages and she was able to accommodate for that. I had other friends who were also massaged by her and I know they don't care to really firm pressure so it was great that she could accommodate all these different requests.

Lawrence gave me a fantastic therapeutic massage to help rehabilitate an upper back muscle strain I have. He was professional, on time, and thoughtful. He followed up with me the next day to see how I was doing. It's timesaving and comfortable to have a massage in your own home. I've already booked another massage with him!

I hadn't exercised in many years. Was pretty sedentary. Felt a bit helpless. Didn't know where to start. Xavier turned out to be the perfect trainer to help me. He is patient and wants to work at a pace that I am capable of doing, while still challenging me. He is very concerned about using proper body mechanics. After just a few sessions, I can actually see the potential of becoming strong, flexible and physically fit again. I really look forward to our sessions and I feel that he is very knowledgeable and experienced. His massage therapy training has been useful in addressing some problem areas where I had been experiencing pain and therefore avoiding use of certain muscles. I would recommend him for people of any age or fitness level. He will listen to you and tune into your needs.

I've had many massages by Patricia. She is wonderful! Adept at both deep massage or a more gentle application if that's preferred, she's sure to provide the therapy that's just right. She's a lovely person, good company and intuitive to the level of engagement that's desire. With much enthusiasm, I can highly recommend Patricia.

I've recently come across a very difficult time in my life that made me question my whole being. My mental, physical, and spiritual were at an all time low and I was approaching a crossroad in my life that would determine the next decade of events to come. Luckily, Dalina and Eternal Therapy were there for me. Through their reiki, they helped me realize that I've always had the answer and strength within myself, I just let the stress of my everyday life steer me off the path that I should have never drove off of. My mental fog needed a lift that I couldn't muscle, and they helped me push through this haze. After my session I was able to put my situation into clear perspective. They also followed up with me to check on my current state and I felt that all they truly cared about was if I was better. Thank you Eternal Therapy for everything you have done. You truly are amazing. Jonathan T.

Massage after car accident - I am so thankful Ping can bring the table, electric blanket and therapy to my house. I have two toddlers and scheduling a sitter for 1hr massage is too much so they play while she treats my back pain.

Nathaniel is a great massage therapist that not only knows massage but multiple modalities of bodywork. He performed deep tissue, trigger point therapy, and myofacial release on my body. After one session my body immedietly had more Range Of Motion. As a personal trainer for fitness 19 i even started referring my clients to Nathaniel for their bodywork. Most massage therapists are either too soft or aggresive but Nathaniel knows the sweet spot for each individual. If your looking for a good massage therapist Nathaniel is your guy.- Raymond Sunga

I had an amazing one hour massage earlier this evening from Johnny. He was professional, friendly, and instantly put me at ease. His massage style is therapeutic but also very relaxing; and he uses a wonderful light massage cream which does not leave you feeling greasy. The room is very inviting and the fireplace gives off a warm glow, and the perfect amount of heat. I will continue to see Johnny when I am in town visiting SF! I highly recommend him. Bill

I have gone to Chiayueh for a variety of ailments over the years - from anxiety to running injuries - and I cannot recommend her highly enough. She is an extremely talented Reiki master and massage therapist who has devoted her life to making people feel better. Chiayueh combines her background in Eastern holistic healing with training in Western massage therapy to form a practice that centers around long-lasting treatment of the body and mind. Most importantly, she truly cares about each of her patients and pours her heart and soul into her work. Make an appointment with her - you won't be sorry!

I contacted Marianne to see if she could help me with guidance and answers to my medical questions as well as help me understand how to deal with life’s overall stress due to work, relationships, finances and a whole lot more. Marianne to the rescue—fast! She far exceeded my expectations. Marianne helped me find equilibrium and peace between my heart, body and spirit, a powerful gift, much easier said than done. She uses multiple modalities and disciplines that I’ve not experienced nor known. (Believe me, I’ve been to all types of practitioners.) In a very quiet but powerful way, Marianne has the ability to untangle and balance what my Mind thinks and what my Spirit truly wants to experience. That’s pretty hard to do with me! This combination: Ayurvedic Acupressure (Marma Balance), Message therapy, (Marianne is a certified massage therapist), Ayurvedic Herbs & Aromatherapy remedies handmade by Marianne (yes, certified Purveyor of Apothycaria), Bell Ringing Vibration (yes a certified Balinese Bell Resonance and Tuning Forks Practitioner) has catapulted all my power(s) within. You name it- Marianne has either studied under the religious deities or leaders for each of these therapies (plus more) worldwide. Marianne will get you on your path! Please contact Marianne today. You will be amazed with her powers. Linda, Los Altos, everyday person looking for solutions toward a new path.

Suzanne Abboud is an extremely kind, caring, knowledgeable and dedicated professional. Always interested in helping others live a holistic and healthy lifestyle. She is always ready with some words of help and encouragement to those in need. I have seen first hand the results of her successful holistic treatment of a cancer patient. I have also referred a friend, also a cancer survivor/patient, who was overly happy with the incredible homeopathic results she saw after meeting with Suzanne and implementing her suggestions that were specifically recommended for her individual disease. And this was without any of the dangerous risks of poisons and side effects of traditional modern day medicine. So far, she has had positive results from her monthly blood tests and only after 3 weeks! Suzanne also supplied her with vital and valuable information to keep her healing. We believe we are all blessed to have come to know Suzanne and by her teachings.

I had a "frozen shoulder". After seeing a Chiropracter and a sports medicine Dr.,after x-rays and a cortisone shot I was only partly relieved. Then I had Cheryl work on me. The cortisone shot had greatly relieved my pain, but not mobility- after only 2 sessions with Cheryl I had full range of motion return. She made me believe in the Therapy part of "massage therapy". She was careful and thorough and professional. And I was helped enormously.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is naturopathic medicine?

Naturopathic medicine is classified as an alternative healing method, but licensed naturopathic doctors share some of the same academic background as conventional medical doctors and can often prescribe some medications. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), naturopathic medicine is holistic care that addresses a wide range of problems including (but not limited to) allergies, chronic pain, digestive issues, hormonal imbalances, obesity, respiratory conditions, heart disease, fertility problems, menopause, adrenal fatigue, cancer, fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Naturopathic medicine aims to strengthen and empower the body and its organs to heal itself through low-force interventions. Here are some examples of the type of medical services often provided by naturopathic doctors, as cited by the AANP:

      • Clinical and laboratory diagnostic testing
      • Nutritional medicine
      • Botanical medicine
      • Naturopathic physical medicine (including naturopathic manipulative therapy)
      • Hygiene
      • Counseling
      • Minor surgery
      • Homeopathy
      • Acupuncture
      • Intravenous and injection therapy
      • Naturopathic obstetrics (natural childbirth)

      Do naturopaths take insurance?

Many naturopathic doctors accept insurance, but a separate question is whether your insurance covers alternative and naturopathic services. There are several steps you can take to find out:

      • Verify whether you live in one of the 20 states that currently licenses naturopathic physicians:
        • Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Montana, New Hampshire, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont and Washington.
      • Confirm whether your insurance will cover naturopathic medical services. Read your insurance plan’s fine print, verify whether naturopathic doctors fall into your insurance carrier’s definition of a doctor, and confirm that the care you are receiving is considered medically necessary. Questions to ask your insurance provider could include:
        • Am I covered for this treatment by a naturopathic physician?
        • Do I need a referral?
        • Is there a list of approved naturopathic doctors in my network?
        • What will the co-pay be?
        • Are there limits to my naturopathic coverage?
      • Before seeking medical care, it’s key to understand the difference between a naturopathic doctor and a naturopath. Anyone may advertise themselves as a naturopath, while to be a licensed naturopathic doctor, a person must complete academic and clinical training.

      Can naturopathic doctors prescribe medication?

Licensed naturopathic doctors can prescribe some pharmaceutical medication. Naturopathic doctors complete academic training similar to that of conventional physicians: a bachelor’s degree with a focus on pre-med studies, followed by a four-year residential naturopathic medical program whose first two years have a similar foundation to that of a conventional medical school. After completing their studies, they must pass a post-doctoral exam. Although licensed naturopathic physicians are able to prescribe medication, they usually focus on prevention rather than treatment of symptoms. A naturopathic doctor will offer a holistic approach to your care that encompasses your mental, physical and emotional health. While they will prescribe medication as needed to treat illness, they are also likely to be creating shifts in your lifestyle and nutrition to effect deeper changes in your body’s response to illness.

How do you find a good naturopath?

It’s important not to get misled by the title “naturopath” when searching for a naturopathic doctor. A naturopathic doctor is a licensed professional, while anyone who so desires can call themselves a naturopath. A naturopathic doctor has completed eight years of schooling and is licensed to provide high-quality medical care. When searching for a naturopathic doctor, a good place to start is by researching your state’s licensing and regulatory body for that profession.

Currently, 20 U.S. states license the practice of naturopathic medicine. For those seeking holistic, body-centered healing solutions, a naturopathic doctor can be a good fit. They use natural medicines as well as treatments such as electrotherapy and ayurvedic medicine to encourage the body to heal. Once you have determined a list of naturopathic physicians who are licensed in your state, look for reviews, ask for referrals, and interview the physician in person or by phone to find the right care provider for your health needs.

How long do naturopathic doctors go to school?

Like conventional physicians, naturopathic doctors undergo rigorous academic and clinical training prior to practice. Typically naturopathic doctors go to school for eight years. There are currently 20 states in the U.S. that provide licensing for naturopathic doctors. According to the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians, a naturopathic doctor must complete a bachelor’s degree and an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical program, and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination, the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX), in order to receive a license or registration to practice medicine.

The first two years of the residential naturopathic medical program cover many of the same areas of study as conventional medical schools. Naturopathic doctors provide primary patient holistic care. The goal of naturopathic medicine is preventative care and a focus on low force intervention healing methods. This can include natural medicines, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, homeopathy and much more. Naturopathic doctors often work in tandem with conventional medical doctors, as the two practices complement one another.
