Harp and his team helped us take 2 adjacent dark closets and turn them into a single larger room that we’ll eventually transform into an office space. They removed boards that were on top of windows, knocked down the dividing wall and shelves, and patched things up so that they’re ready to paint. Same day service is no joke. I contacted Harp yesterday, we FaceTimed to show him the space, and he showed up today with his crew and completed the job in 4 hours. Couldn’t be happier to get this done so quickly. If you’ve got a project you’ve been thinking about, dive in with Harp and crew. They make it easy to take it one step at a time.

Gustavo and his crew (Edgar and Arman) did a great job of repairing the concrete deck around my pool. They were on-time, clean, and hardworking; not to mention doing a much better job than expected for a very fair price. I would definitely use them again if I had other jobs to do (and I think I will).

Very good job. I rarely give out 5/5 but they're 4.5/5 job for sure. Ana is super fast, responsive via message on Thumbtack even when I didn't have a phone with me. Moving recently to the city I've been looking for a regular cleaner - I have found them here! Staff came on time. Friendly. Did thorough job on organizing, folding, sweeping, scrubbing, mopping, trash, cleaning - basically left my 1300+ sq ft place ready as I leave on my 3 week vacation - stress free. They also make you check completed cleaning before they leave to ensure they're done a good job. Btw, I booked them last minute. I contacted Ana - the crew showed up at my door all in less than 4 hours. That's what I call FAST & PROMPT service!

Jasmin did an AMAZING job! The place had been lived in for over 25 years and never deep cleaned (gross, I know...don't judge!). She tackled the huge mess with a great attitude and did such an awesome job. Would hire again and again!

We needed to get our apartment cleaned up for our move-out inspection. Teresa and Rosa did a fantastic job on the bathrooms and kitchen; our bath tubs and wall tiles were scrubbed completely clean of mildew, and our kitchen sink looked brand-new by the time they were done. I had to take off one star because they showed up 40 minutes late and weren't so great with the windows (which they said weren't included in the cleaning description, something I found odd).

Exceptional responsiveness to questions prior to job. I appreciated the confirmation note the day before and recommendations on paint. They painted one room and an accent wall. Both workers did a great job of protecting floors and the window/door trim. Job was completed in a timely manner with professional conduct during the entire job. Would definitely hire them again and highly recommend them to others.

I hired Jasper from My Apartment Is Better Than Yours. I think they did a terrific job at a very reasonable price. I'm really pleased that I decided to go with them. I had a number of unusual carpentry tasks to complete when I moved to my new place. The windows were old and the wood was irregular and moldy, so the wood around the antique glass panels needed to be replaced. I was told those windows hadn't been opened in 40 years, but now they work perfectly and you'd never know the wood wasn't original. Also, several doorways lacked doors when I moved in, and were unusual rounded shapes cut into the stucco without doorframes. Jasper was able to make me custom doors with antique iron-wrought handles, and they look awesome. I also needed threshholds worked on, cabinets put up, new benches made for my roof deck, a custom projector and screen put in, antique chandeliers installed, a lock repaired... and I'm probably forgetting one or two things. They are in the process of putting the finishing touches on my humidor (they had to build me custom legs for it), and it's going to look spectacular. Anyway, they knocked it all out of the park. They were prompt and clean and didn't cause much of a disturbance despite all the work they were doing. They'll be my go-to for anything I need done in the future. I definitely recommend them.

I’ve had Luis do jobs in my house for many years (over 15 years). No task he can’t do. Luis does my jobs when he says he will for the cost he says and I’m pleased with the results. Luis has installed Pergo flooring in my kitchen and hallway, installed crown molding in my whole house. Fabricated and built a custom pocket door in my bathroom so my wife could enter in her wheelchair. Repaired and reinstalled my front door. Installed a ceiling fan in my family room. Replaced all my windows with dual pane vinyl windows and my sliding patio. Luis finished a 3’x6’ skylight in my kitchen that I never completed and then painted the kitchen. Luis fabricated and built a custom 18 foot planter box on my patio. All of Luis’s work is top notch quality. I’m 74 years old and can’t do much physical work anymore so I depend on Luis more and more when I have things to fix. As I mentioned at the front of this review there is nothing Luis can’t do. I’d be lost without Luis’s help.

MG windows are true professionals who provide the best customer service. The owner identified some issues with the siding at my house and offered suggestions on solving the problem. Initially a friend recommended a different windows and company to install. I expressed my concerns with Melki who conducted research of his own and reported back to me his findings. I love love love the windows and already the house is warmer than with the pre-existing windows. Melki offers a warranty and is adamant about ensuring the finish product is up to par. I enjoyed working with him and have already recommended him to my friend who has had a terrible experience with the company he used. Thank you Melki I will be calling you for other home projects!!

Our remodeling was done remotely, and yet we were thrilled with the end result. Lifetime Remodeling provided us with the highest quality of work and costumer service. Lifetime remodeling brought their structural engineer, completed blue prints, got the plans approved with the city, and orchestrated all the professionals. The work included taking down walls, electrical work, building a pantry and a walk-in closet, repositioning a supporting beam, enlarging windows, creating a bar, painting walls and cabinets, changing bathroom floors, installing kitchen backsplash, hardwood flooring installation and refinishing, and more. Shmuel and the team were very receptive to all our requests and easy to communicate with. The job was completed within the planned budget and time frame. They truly care about doing the best for their clients, and it shows. Highly recommended.

I highly recommend Cal Coast Window and Door to anyone needing door or window service. The company has access to top products and are able to provide you with options. But the most important thing to me was the quality of their work crew. The workmanship was top drawer. I had let my windows deteriorate after years of neglect, and was worried the damage could not be properly repaired. As it turned out, I had nothing to worry about. The work crew was precise with measurements; their cuts were clean; they were careful how they went about their work; cleaned up after themselves; and were polite and professional. They showed up on time and addressed all of my questions to my complete satisfaction. The end product is the ultimate goal, and I am extremely pleased with my new windows.

Rafael is very professional. I hired him for a number of projects, such as installing dishwasher, range hood, kitchen faucet, door locks, garbage disposal, outdoor light fixtures, fixing windows handle, etc. He did amazing job and quality work. For example, previous cabinet is 36in (two 18in doors). Rafael installed 24in dishwasher and made a 12in door like the original cabinet. It is really amazing. When he finished his work everyday, he always cleaned everything up. He also cares about details. I would like to recommend him to everyone, and I would like to hire him again for my future projects.

I needed 7 pieces of furniture assembled in a very short amount of time, so I looked for outside help. Billy was on time and called before arriving (this is important for me since I don't like waiting for "long windows" with uncertain time). Also, he was very flexible and made sure that the appointment time was perfect for me. All in all, he is very straight forward, friendly and does a great job.

Patrick did a terrific job in ordering and installing custom double paned windows to match and replace our 100 year old windows in our unit. The windows are excellent and the installation, while taking some time to install, was done with an effort to minimize the impact on our living space. I highly recommend Patrick for his work on replacing custom windows.

I hired David and his team to do a complete remodel of my town home. I'm a very picky customer and "good enough" is not good enough for me. He was able to complete the work on time, on budget and to my satisfaction. He worked with me and helped (at times at his own expense) to resolve any and all issues that are inevitably discovered during complete remodels. He is responsive, honest and professional. I would recommend David and hire him again for my next project. This is what he completed. Strip down everything down to studs. Install external wall and attic insulation. Install new drywall. Install new kitchen cabinets and granite counter top. Install new windows. Install new front door. Install new water heater. Install new furnace. Install new tub and vanity. Copper re-pipe. Install new flooring (carpet and LVT). Install new recessed lights and updated electrical up to code. Installed crown moldings in all rooms. Fixed external stucco problems. Painted everything. I'm probably missing something but that is the major action items.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
