Archwork provides brilliant architectural services and much-needed project management. When I bought my fixer home, I decided to again engage their services after having a successful experience with a prior home. Although I was confident with my home purchase, I had little idea of the architectural solution. They consulted with me to gain an understanding of my goals before going to work -- budget, living needs, design/style preference and return on investment. It was truly a collaborative effort. Even through some expected design disagreements, we were able to reach solutions that satisfied both of us. Thankfully, they were never willing to compromise design integrity. As for the final product, I couldn't be happier. The design for maximizing the usable space and value of my home was spot on. I know it was a difficult challenge to retrofit new construction into the existing structure, but they succeeded in creating a seamless solution.

    AGA did a room addition for us in our Hollywood Hills home. This project included a bedroom with walk-in closet and full bathroom. AGA construction was a great choice for our room addition. They took our dream and made it into reality. We just had a vision, but with the help of the AGA project managers and architect, we were able to bring that vision into fruition. AGA project managers met with us several times before we signed a contract with them. AGA was willing to meet with us and make sure my husband and I were very comfortable with the project and all the steps that were needed. They answered all the questions we had, gave us expected time frames, suggestions of finishing materials that we should buy with regards to popular styles, quality ranges, and price differences. In terms of actual construction, the project was seamless and flawless. The preparation for the project was really professional. The project did not start until all the materials, vanities, and options were chosen. This allowed the project to be executed in a smooth and clean process with absolutely no hiccups. The job was done in a fast and swift manner, yet quality was not compromised at all. Everything came out evenly and straight, and the finishes were all very sturdy and solid. With the extra square footage AGA built for us, we added a lot of value to our home. We have gotten a lot of compliments and even a few offers to purchase our home. Thank you AGA on a job well done. We are very satisfied with the outcome, and we will continue to use AGA in the future.

    I have worked with many building designers and Reza is unique in that he listens to his clients and tries to incorporate their ideas into a design that is practical and functional. He has an easygoing personality, accommodates changes, and has many contacts in the building trades. He obtained all of the necessary permits for me and helped legalize an unpermitted addition. I will definitely use his services again.

    I did 1500 sq.ft. project of Oriental Medicine clinic with Roi. It was my first time doing construction and he helped every step. Even though it was a small project, but he took his time to explain all the details about the process and he was willing to learn about new field of Oriental Medicine, so that he could deliver perfect design solution for my needs.     Stan responded to my Thumbtack solicitation for a brewery-distillery in the Los Angeles area. Stan was communicative, prompt, professional, and provided a very reasonable rate. He also went above and beyond his call of duty, as several of our real estate deals fell through, and Stan did not charge for extra time / trips to accommodate this misfortune. He also took time to meet with me and work on the project when most others would be "off the clock." Stan is a great find.       Diane has done a whole home remodel for my family in the early 1990s and a 1000 sq. foot separate building on a different property in about 2012. She is a good listener when it comes to understanding the clients needs. Her understanding of how a space will be used is clearly reflected in her modern designs. She has a tremendous attention to modern detail, and supervised the construction to ensure compliance with her design. I was very pleased with the finished results on both projects and enjoy living in these spaces. She has excellent skills on state of the art architectural CAD software that allows her to create very detailed plans and specifications. This is critical during both the bid and construction phases. She has a depth of knowledge regarding building materials and finishes that help to create a coherent aesthetic design. She is LEED certified and sustainable development is clearly part of her philosophy, Her services include construction observation as part of the fee and it is well worth it. She is on site making sure the construction is per specification and correctly detailed. I can't emphasize how important that is. She is a true professional and a joy to work with. I recommend her without hesitation.

      How do architects work?

      Architects may work for an architecture or engineering firm, they may work for a government organization, they can work for a construction company, or they may be self-employed (freelance). The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics explains that architects spend a large amount of their working time in the home or company office: meeting with clients; creating reports and architectural drawings; and working with other architects and engineers. When not in an office, an architect is often at the construction site either as part of the development of plans or to ensure building progress is following the blueprint.

      When a client interacts with an architect, it is typically to have them design drawings for the construction of a house or a building. If you are a client who has hired a large architecture firm, there may be a team of people working on your design. But if you are working with a freelance architect or a smaller firm, one person (or a small group) will take your concept and translate it into an architectural blueprint that a builder can use to construct a house. The plans will lay out everything from the depth of the foundation to the materials to use to the type of metal to be used in the reinforcement. Once the plans have been created and handed off to the builder, the architect may remain on the project — depending on budget — and oversee progress.

      How do architects charge for their services?

      According to the U.S. Department of Labor, the median salary of an architect in 2016 was $76,930. This range included architects with every type of company as well as self-employed architects. Depending on the architect and whether they’re with a firm or independent, they may charge per hour or by the square foot, or they may charge a percentage of the total budget for a construction project. An hourly rate is typically used for smaller projects such as providing consultation, helping clients hone their concept before the design process begins, or drafting documents and plans. If an architect is working on an hourly basis on a larger project, there will usually be an agreed-upon cap on the number of hours they will work. For larger projects, such as new construction or total overhaul remodels, architects may charge a percentage of the total construction costs. The architect will usually set the percentage you will pay after the total cost of construction has been accounted for. Percentages can range within a firm depending on the extent of the services they’re providing. For example, a lower percentage of the total construction costs may include drafting and minimal consultation and guidance along the way, while a higher percentage could include on-site project management services with every detail attended to. Architects may also charge by the square footage of the project. The rate per square foot can vary depending on the individual’s training, the services they are providing, the complexity of the project, and other factors — such as obtaining permits. The national average cost to hire an architect is between $1,690 and $2,500.
