After talking to over a dozen lawyers throughout the week, I ended up hiring Christopher Miller for my DUI case and I couldn't be happier. When we spoke on the phone he remembered my Thumbtack inquiry which had been a week ago and that surprised me a little. I had spent so much time looking for someone that I almost did not have time to request a DMV hearing. When I hired Chris, he immediately filed for one and sent me a copy. He made sure to answer all my questions thoroughly which made me feel much more secure about my case. I knew I had hired the right lawyer when he told me that “we'd” get through this. He's smart and compassionate. When several of the other lawyers I spoke with were just worried about money or facts, Chris actually cares about his clients. Having an accident along with my DUI was something that was really worrying me but Chris did his best to ease my fears. My entire outcome was a lot better than I expected. Actually, it was exactly as he had said it would turn out. If anything ever happens again, I know who to call.

My wife and I were in desperate need of a Bankruptcy Attorney fast, due to being in the middle of a lawsuit from our creditors. I knew nothing about Bankruptcy and was very nervous. I talked to 4 different Attorneys, but Erika was by far the most comforting. She walked me and my wife through the process step by step and made sure we were at ease. She was reachable by text/calls/email all the time if i had questions. I like to think she wasn't just doing her job but it felt more like i had a family member that was a Bankruptcy Attorney. After it was all over, it was just like she said it would be, Lawsuit gone, debit gone, stress gone. We got our life back. Erika, i can't thank you enough. Rick Brown.

I went onto thumbtack to look for an attorney which was pretty late, and he replied to me within 5 mins! Messaged me directly from his phone. It was 4 days before my court day. He already had someone scheduled at the same time. Since he has a good relationship with the court he was able to call the day before to come in at a later time so he can be there for me. I was really scared, nervous and stressed out because I got myself into a HUGE horrible mess. Scott and his firm assured me that everything will be okay. Scott is truly a real life guardian angel, I was able to walk away because of the amazing reputation and relationships he has with the court and other lawyers. It was over within minutes. After he had to remind me again that it was all over because I was still in shock that it was all done and it was closed. I'm so grateful to have found him. He honestly made me feel so safe during that time. He is truly thee best!!!

Time after time, Mr. Green (hint, hint lol) has put his neck out on the line to represent our family during our cases. And I wouldn't let any shabby review change my opinion about him. So in regards to Alexis A. – don't believe everything you read on the internet. Period. There's a lot to look for when you're looking for a lawyer to represent you in court. You can just pick anyone in a suit, and hand them over your money. It was by chance, that a good friend of our handed over his business card, and recommend him! And let me tell you, I am among the very satisfied people that have found a lucky gem. Mr. Greenberg has done an outstanding job on every case he's worked out with my family, and has also gone the extra mile in and out of the courtroom. For the work he does, I would say Robert deserves a million dollars because what he does is definitely not as easy as you think. But the world does needs damn good lawyers like him. As much as a hard-ass he would like to appear to be, he is really a friendly, personable guy. Not always the New York Pitbull in a suit! He is very patient, and takes his work seriously. Robert has looked in all sorts of angles, and has some pretty creative ways to look at things. I felt that everything that needed to be examined was examined with a fine tooth comb. He pulled out all the questions from all definitely aspects. There was a lot of hard things I had to do these past few months, but if it wasn't for having someone like him at my side, many of things would not have gone as great as they did. If you're looking for someone that puts everything they have into their work, then THIS IS YOUR GUY. I never felt vulnerable because he always there for me when I needed him. We are completely satisfied with Mr. Greenberg! :D - Niloofar.

Benjamin Soffer was very prompt in responding to my inquiry about a commercial lease. He was friendly and insightful in answering my questions. Other lawyers I had contacted previously started with their rate but Ben was different. He was more interested in getting me the help I needed. I would recommend Ben to anyone who needs a competent but also a warm lawyer.

This is one of the top law offices I've called to handle a case. My dad was being accused of Murder, I contacted this law office to handle my dad's case, and we got an outstanding result on this case. My dad was found innocent and he is home now. He will spend the holidays with all of my family. I am super thankful to have had attorney Catalina Gracia as our family lawyer. She is extremely talented in the courthouse and she will fight to the end for you. I will never use another attorney again.

Mr. Martz is not like other lawyers. He is above and beyond the nicest and most down to earth lawyer I've met. Most lawyers are slow to reply, charge you a ton, and are rude. Not Kellan. He helped me with a DUI case I had a few months ago and got me a plea deal that was very fair. I made a mistake and needed help, Kellan did a great job and was very clear in explaining how everything worked in court. His prices were very competitive and he let me pay in three installments so I didn't have to come up with that much all at once. Thanks Kellan.

Mr. Kelsey Stout is an experienced, competent and meticulous patent lawyer. His advice and perspective helped us correct and enhance the scope of our recently accepted patent claim on wind turbines. Though the corrections seemed daunting, his interactions with us and clarifications on the subject matter made the editing process easier to fulfill. I would highly recommend Mr. Stout to anyone needing services of an intellectual patent lawyer.

I was very impressed with Spolin Law, and in particular with the main lawyer Aaron Spolin. He is smart, well spoken, knew the law, and he got a great result for me! I definitely would have lost my job if it weren't for him. Thank you guys! Also, a side note, I had used a different attorney before but the woman would basically never call me back. Not so with Mr Spolin. He always called me back promptly, which was a big deal. I'm endeared to them.

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does an immigration attorney do?

Immigration lawyers help their clients through all phases of the immigration process. Experts on immigration law, they are legally qualified to represent U.S. citizens, permanent residents or undocumented immigrants. Immigration lawyers also provide assistance to visitors here on student, work or travel visas, and can represent clients who may have an expired visa or who have overstayed their visa.

You can hire an immigration lawyer to assist you with petitioning for renewing a permanent resident or green card, navigating the naturalization process, submitting an employee-based petition for a work visa, filing a petition for a family member, or representing you or a loved one who is facing detention or deportation, as well as replacing, extending or changing a current visa, green card or work permit. The immigration process is highly complex, with multiple hearings, paperwork and requirements. Hiring a legal expert to represent you can help you make your best effort in the process. When researching immigration lawyers, it is very important to verify their qualifications and find a reputable attorney. Read reviews and verify that the immigration lawyer is licensed by your state before paying any fees.

How do you find a good real estate lawyer?

If buying or selling property feels overwhelming and the thought of finding a good real estate lawyer seems daunting, you’re in luck. There are some simple steps to follow for finding a trustworthy, affordable real estate lawyer to help with your property and legal needs.

  • Determine what kind of real estate lawyer you need. Many states require a real estate attorney to handle sale closing documents. For more complex matters such as a real estate deal gone awry or foreclosure, you’ll want to find an attorney who has successfully handled cases like yours.
  • Look for online reviews of real estate lawyers in your area. Verify that they have proven experience closing or winning cases like yours and that they are in good standing with the state bar association.
  • Choose two or three lawyers to interview. Many offer a free consultation to learn about your case and provide information about rates. For standard real estate closing services, in-depth interviewing might not be necessary.
  • Ask about their rates and whether they charge by the hour or provide services for a flat fee. Ask whether a retainer is required, and what the total bill should be for a case like yours.
  • Ask for a write-up of the services that will be covered by the projected costs.
  • Make sure you like the real estate agent and they treat you with respect. Confirm whether they or another person will be working on your case and make sure you’re comfortable with all members of their team.
  • Pay the retainer and hire your lawyer.

What is a personal injury lawyer?

A personal injury lawyer fights on your behalf if you’ve been injured physically, psychologically, economically or in reputation. This injury may be the result of neglect or malicious intent of another person, or it could be at the hands of a business, government or other entity. Personal injury lawyers specialize in tort law, which is the law of civil wrongs like car accidents, company wrongdoing, unlawful imprisonment and more.

To become qualified to be a personal injury lawyer in the United States, a person must earn a bachelor’s degree, followed by a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from a law school. Most states then require the person to pass the bar exam to become licensed to practice law. Unlike many attorneys who require a retainer, personal injury lawyers often work on contingency fees. This means that in lieu of payment upfront, they receive an agreed-upon percentage of the settlement in case of a win.

What does a real estate lawyer do?

A real estate lawyer represents their client’s best interest in all matters related to the sale, purchase and ownership of real estate. They are experts in real estate law. In states that require a real estate lawyer to close home sales, the lawyer must review and finalize all documents before the deal can be legally completed. Real estate lawyers also help clients legally protect their rights when entering, exiting or renegotiating a real estate deal. You can hire a real estate lawyer as an individual or as a business. A real estate lawyer can help with negotiation, addressing mortgage fraud, managing foreclosures and bankruptcy, transfers of titles and deeds, property ownership disputes, zoning issues, creating a co-ownership contract for joint purchase of a property, and much more. Real estate lawyers can also protect you from issues that result when a known problem was not properly disclosed by the previous owner. Overall, real estate lawyers are an added cost when it comes to buying and selling property, but they also ensure your best interests are met, and that you and the people you are doing business with comply with the law.

What kind of lawyer does wills?

No one likes talking about death, but it’s better than leaving your children or siblings to sort out your estate. A clearly planned will can make the time of mourning easier for everyone. An estate attorney will develop a legal will, create trusts on your behalf, and ensure the proper execution of your estate after you pass away.

Family attorneys and estate attorneys, also called probate and wills attorneys, can each prepare wills. The type of lawyer best suited to prepare your will depends on your situation. Most family attorneys provide services to prepare basic wills, including bequeathing property and personal items to family or naming a guardian for minor children. However, estate attorneys specialize in preparing wills in more complex situations. Consider hiring an estate attorney if you:

  • Have a large number of assets, especially those subject to estate taxes
  • Want to create a trust, such as allowing a spouse to live in your home until he or she dies and then leaving it to your children, or set up long-term care for a beneficiary
  • Have an ownership stake in a business
  • Expect someone to contest your will
  • Want to disinherit your spouse
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
