Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: My teaching style adjusts to many different learning styles (written music or learning by ear, right-brain or left-brain, etc). My music background includes formal study in high school and university and also many years of informal performance at pub sessions and in bands and choirs. This enriches my sound and gives it a unique, worldly flavor. I love hearing my students as they progress - always more quickly than I expect! One of my students has posted a lot of her recordings on a blog, and I am very proud to share what she has done.

Aaron is a gifted singer and instrumentalist who is also a dedicated teacher. I came to him as a long-time guitar player interested in learning flute in the Irish traditional style. My experience with Aaron so far has been great. He immediately took a genuine interest in understanding me and my musical background so he could engage me in a dialog at the appropriate level. He's been excellent at spotting things I need to work on, advising me on how to practice those things, and has been particularly good at raising my awareness of the possibilities with the instrument so I can better explore it on my own. Basically he's done a great job at tailoring our lessons to exactly what I need. I imagine he'd do the same for anyone, whether a complete beginner wanting systematic instruction or someone with a substantial musical background trying to learn a new instrument.

Aaron is an excellent music teacher and has been teaching our family for the past 2 years. My youngest son is learning the flute and my older son and I are learning to play the saxophone. Aaron has an atypical teaching style emphasizing playing by ear rather than learning to play from sheet music which we all enjoy. My younger son, the flute player, naturally prefers this style.

Thanks for the review, Fred! I like to start off playing by ear, and I will teach with written music as well. My philosophy is "learn to speak before learning to read." I think both skills are equally important, but I like someone to have a basic body kinesthetic and auditory connection to the instrument before beginning with sheet music.

I heard Aaron Clegg sing a solo at Mark and Debbie Howard's wedding. The beauty of his solo voice knocked my socks off! What a gift.......

FAQs

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I absolutely love music - it has been pouring out of me since I was six years old, and no matter what else I try to do, music keeps coming. My father performed and taught lessons when I was young, and I caught the spirit and the wisdom from him. Teaching music is easy and fun for me, and I find I can do it for hours at a time without getting tired.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Think about what your goals are for your music lessons, and then consider which teacher will best be able to meet your needs. I always talk with students about what their goals are, and we revisit those goals every few lessons to make sure we are on track with those goals.
