Introduction: In the past 15 years, I've taught over 500 students. Many of them have been coming back to my classes year after year. I am constantly studying new jewelry-making techniques & materials and adding to my repertoire of classes. I love when students tell me that learning to make jewelry has improved their lives. I've had people tell me they were depressed or had low self esteem or no direction in life before, and now they are excited about this new skill. It's my tiny way of helping the world.

Susan Ryza is an amazing teacher. Her knowledge of jewelry making is vast. Any phase from important basic techniques to complicated advanced projects are within her scope. Give her a project you want to do an she research it, practice it, and teach it par excellence. Add patience and a giving spirit to the mix and you have one wonderful teacher.

Susan's classes are so much more than I ever expect. As I'm working, I see the possibilities because she's given us the foundation to build upon. By the end of class, you've learned the technique because you've completed a project. Susan's classes are relaxed and informal. I've taken many and will continue for as long as Susan teaches them! She's great, her classes are great. I get lost in the work!

Susan is patient and knowledgeable. Have taken classes in jewelry making for a long time from her and still learning new useful techniques. You can also get tools and other supplies from her and learn how to use them. She teaches simple to more advanced jewelry making techniques in a pleasant learning setting and will answer any questions one might have. If there is a technique you want to learn let her know she will teach you how to do. Susan's classes achieve a 5 star rating.

FAQs

  • What types of customers have you worked with?

I teach weekly classes at Emeritus College (part of Santa Monica College), and I also teach through Santa Monica College's Continuing Education program. My most recent classes have been Kumihimo, Wire Rings, Chain Maille, Making Chains & Clasp from Wire, and Bead & Jewelry Basics. In my home studio classes, I have recently taught Sheet Metal Stamping & Texturing, Metal Patina, Viking Knit Bracelets & Necklaces, Spool Knit Necklaces & Leather/Chain Weaving. I usually teach jewelry-making techniques through the completion of specific projects, and my project list includes about 240 different techniques. Please let me know what particular type of jewelry-making methods you are interested in.

  • Describe a recent project you are fond of. How long did it take?

The recent Metal-Stamping & Viking Knit classes I've taught at my home studio have been so popular that I've had to break them into 2 or 3 groups rather than the original single class I had planned.
