Highly recommend Domingo's services. Not only does he work quickly (and quietly), he squeezed me in on a Sunday during a very busy Holiday week. I will definitely hire him in the future and recommend him to others who need tree trimming and yard service.

My backyard had been over run with weeds, some that were even 3'-4' tall and I just don't have the time nor do I enjoy weeding. Chris came by to check out the yard, and see what I needed done. He is very knowledgeable, apparently have three different types of grass in my backyard and he knew what all of them were. We went over what I wanted and what he recommended and he provided me with a reasonable quote so I told him to schedule me whenever he was available. About a week later the crew came in and handle their business. When I came home from work, I was so pleased to see how great our yard looked. I was also relieved since this is my first time using his services and no one was home to keep an eye on things... He did EVERYTHING we spoke about, it was great. Highly recommend Chris, we are going to add him on to now do our regular monthly yard maintenance.

Ray and his crew did a great job removing two large, dead maples, grinding the stumps, and planting a pair of citrus trees in the holes for me. Ray was punctual and professional with his quote, and explained the options and processes in a straightforward manner. In the end, it turned out part of the process was unnecessary, and he adjusted the price without issue. His crew went above and beyond, even cutting up some fireplace logs for me, and trimming an extra tree away from power lines at no charge. They arrived when they were supposed to, knew exactly what they were doing, were at all times polite and professional, and completely cleaned up the debris and sawdust, not only from my yard, but from my neighbor's yard as well. Well, done, Raygoza Landscaping and Tree Service!

Thomas was great from day one - very calm, polite, and willing to explain how his team would complete the task at hand. I had over 1,500 sqft of sod installed, and also had his crew haul 10 cubic yards of excess soil from the back yard - that's 25,000 pounds of soil! My yard has now been transformed from a dead and dry dirt pile - to a put-together lawn, with a planter area for trees. Altogether, my experience was favorable - and I'm glad I chose to offer the work to Thomas and his crew.

Luis did an excellent job cleaning the front and back yards with the help of his brother. There was a lot of work and they did it in one afternoon at a reasonable price. He has continued on as my gardener for one month and one day. The last day he accidentally shot a rock which broke the sliding glass door in the back yard. He offered to pay but could not come and help me clean up the shattered glass. He came back the next week (today) to pay me for the accident and he quit. He felt he could not do his job properly if he could not use his weeder and blower in the back yard any longer. He did not want to just maintain my front yard. I am disappointed that he will no longer be my gardener because it took me a long time to find a nice guy that spoke English and did the work as I asked. He is a step up guy and I appreciate it that he came in person to pay me and tell me he felt he could no longer work for me. I wish he would have stayed another month to complete my edging and fertilize the lawn but I understand he cannot afford any more accidents. I would highly recommend him to others looking for an honest man to do their yard maintenance.

I hired Steve and his team because my large yard was - to say the least - a disaster area: knee-high grass and weeds, overgrown tree limbs, the works. Steve came to the house on a Saturday at no charge, reviewed the situation, and provided an estimate before I hired. The work was done a few days later (while I was at the office), and I was absolutely bowled over by the transformation when I got home. He and his team made a jungle into a beautiful suburban yard in a few hours at a price that was more than reasonable (and exactly what he estimated). They’ll be coming regularly from now on, and I couldn’t be happier. Besides the fantastic work and extremely fair price, Steve has been professional, personable, and totally reliable - even my dogs love him! I can’t recommend this service enough.

TurFusion did an awesome job on my front yard. I couldn't of asked for better results. After getting ripped off from my the last contractor. TurFusion came through for your boy. Parrish was coo and professional showed us options and gave us a reasonable price. Abel and his crew was phenomenal. It's hard to find good help these days but that crew was great to work with. Very professional and they love what they do. I highly recommend turfusion.

Great job installing new sprinklers front yard and back. Consulted with us on selection of new sod for back yard that would handle our two active dogs. And selection of different sod for front to increase curb appeal. They did a good job of cleaning up daily and kept the project moving to completion.

Juan was very nice and so was his crew. They did a great job trimming and hedging overgrown ficus bushes in my back yard. They cleaned up dead leaves and squared them nicely. It was quite the job to get behind and trim what was growing onto neighbors roof and close to power lines. They were very efficient and the bid was reasonable and very fast. The work was completed within a couple days of me posting the job on thumbtack. I definitely recommend.

I've never been good with plants or anything green, so I gave up after trying on my own for a few months and contacted the professionals. And that is where I found Lawn Love - they quick to contact me back with a quote and I got service that week! My new lawn guy has been great - my back yard finally look like a home again. And he knows his stuff and was able to give me recommendations on my plants and flowers as well. Highly recommend!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a landscape contractor do?

Landscape contractors work from outdoor architectural or design plans to build and install hardscaping or softscaping for the client, much as a general contractor uses architectural designs to build a house. Landscape contractors are experts in soil drainage, grading, hardscaping (installing concrete paths and retaining wall, building ponds, etc.), and planting. They have heavy equipment such as excavators and tractors to prepare the land as needed.

Some landscape contractors are also landscape architects or landscape designers. The titles can be compared with those in home construction: A building or landscape architect must earn a specialized architecture degree and pass an exam to have a license. A designer — whether an interior designer or a landscape designer — does not usually require a license to work. Landscape contractors are not required by law to work from plans designed by a landscape architect, so you may work directly with the landscape contractor to specify the work you’d like done. The national average cost for large-scale landscaping projects is $10,160. Pricing can vary greatly depending on the project scope, materials and design.

How do you find a good landscape architect?

Hiring a landscape architect is an investment in your home. Landscaping can reduce water bills, improve your home resale value, add to your daily living experience and significantly boost curb appeal. A landscape architect will draw the designs for your new landscape; you’ll want to hire a landscape contractor to carry out the plans. Many companies provide design-build landscaping services, with a company architect creating plans for your vision and the landscape contractor executing the vision. With the proper academic background and licensing, a person can be both landscape architect and landscape contractor. Here are a few tips for finding a great landscape architect:

  • Research online portfolios and find several landscape architects whose work interests you.
  • Read online reviews of client experiences.
  • Research whether the landscape architects you are interested in are currently licensed and in good standing with the licensing board, and check whether any complaints have been issued against them. Each state will have their own searchable database. For example, you can search for California landscape architects via the state’s Department of Consumer Affairs.
  • Request bids from your selected landscape architects.
  • Hire the one you like the most, taking care to have a clearly written contract outlining scope of work.

How much does it cost to have your lawn mowed?

Regular lawn maintenance can do wonders for your home’s curb appeal. Professional lawn care prices will vary based on the regional cost to do business and regional cost of labor, the size of your lawn, and any additional services you may desire such as edging or mulching. The national average for lawn mowing costs is $30-$50. Pros may charge an hourly rate, a flat rate or by the square foot (an acre contains 43,560 square feet). Square footage rates factor in the professional’s time, the use of their equipment, and the gas to operate the mower. Distance may also affect cost: If you live outside the company’s standard service range, you may pay an additional travel fee. Here are some examples of average prices for mowing and lawn maintenance:

  • Up to 8,000-square-foot property: $30 per week/$120 per month.
    • Bimonthly: $40 per service/$80 per month.
    • One time only: $45 per service.
      • Prices include mowing all turf grass areas; trimming grass away from fences, structures, trees, and lawn edges; and clearing or blowing all grass trimmings from driveways, sidewalks, curbs, etc.
  • Hourly rate: $25 per hour (including travel, equipment costs and labor).
  • Lot size:
    • Smaller lots in subdivisions: $35.
    • Half-acre lot: $50.
    • One-acre lot: $100.

What should you look for when hiring a landscaper?

Landscaping can be costly — though it usually pays off in curb appeal and home resale value — so finding a landscaper who is worth the investment is important. When hiring a landscaper, look for proven success with the type of results you want. For example, if you know you want a drought-tolerant yard, research websites, reviews and portfolios that showcase beautiful drought-tolerant yards that the landscaper has installed. In addition to relevant experience, you’ll want to find a landscape contractor who has good client reviews. Good communication skills are another important quality in a landscape contractor, since everything from plant selection to hardscape installation needs to be discussed and agreed upon. A landscape contractor who is reliable, easy to understand and able to listen to what you want will help make the process seamless and enjoyable.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
