"Healing Miracle Massage was amazing! They were on time and prepared with everything. They were very clean, with disposable face cloths for the massage chair and wiping down all of the chairs and table after each massage. There was a nice flow for our 60 employees to take turns getting massaged. The only suggestion we have would be to bring some sort of aromatherapy scent so that while getting the massage, people could also smell something nice. All of our empoyees had nothing but great things to say about their massages and we hope to book Healing Miracle Massage again very soon!"

"Terence did a wonderful job working out the tight muscles I had in my back/shoulder. It's not a spa set-up, but that's not what I was expecting. I'm planning a return trip to work out the kinks after our long road trip."

"I have had massage, spiritual healing and constellation work done by Maritza over the years. I recommend her highly. In each of the areas she did an excellent job. The constellation work was very good to help me move through pre verbal early life issues."

"Layla is great to work with. Since my consultations with Layla I have lost 10lbs. Layla was instrumental in guiding me toward a better lifestyle with emphasis on moderate exercise and changes in diet. After meeting Layla you will figure out she has an extensive background in nutrition and has worked as a personal trainer. She will listen carefully to your current situation and your goals. If you follow her advice to the letter you will meet your own personal fitness and nutrition goals. Plus she has a great sparkling personality to go with the dietary advice. All in all working with Layla is a smart decision."

"I had a bad hip and was limping for a couple of months due to some improper form on some squats that were too heavy for me in the gym. During those two months I had seen a chiropractor twice and Mexican healer/masseuse twice as well. While these treatments did help immensely, the pain only ceased for about three days after. Finally I got a deep tissue massage from Kathy at Natural Optimal Wellness and I was able to really start healing. After the first session I was limping a lot less and there was a lot less pain. After the second session a week later I was completely cured of my problem. It took a few days after the massage to completely feel 100%, but after that wait I was completely healed and I haven't had a problem in my hip since and I no longer limp around. She definitely beats the chiropractor and that other healer/masseuse because the healing was long term. Today I feel like I was never hurt at all. Thank you Kathy!!"

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
