Concrete tile roof with a couple tiles completely gone and a dozen cracked. Responded within an hour to my call for help. Made an appointment to estimate job and showed up on time. Walked the roof thoroughly listing all damages in about 30-40 minutes, and gave me a very reasonable price quote I feel. Didn't try to up sell me. Got all the needed material together and knocked the job out in less than four hours. I've worked in construction and building and facilities maintenance for over forty years, and I can tell you these guys are expert, honest, open and straight forward. I highly recommend Alvarado Roofing Service for any roofing work you may need. Great price, great service, expert high quality results.

We hired Excel Construction (Eyal) to completely remodeling our kitchen and to design and build a large wet bar. The remodeling job that they did included the demolition of the existing spaces, the removal of several existing walls, rewiring of some electrical outlets and switches, re-plumbing the new spaces, remove and install new flooring, new upper and lower cabinets, install new marble countertops, installing new lighting fixtures, fresh interior paint, some drywall repairs and adding a new large island at the kitchen. Eyal and his working crew did a stunning remodeling job. Eyal create for us a complete design of the work based on what we wanted and needed, guided us through some space limitations of the house and presented to us some different ideas that met our needs. The remodeling job was delivered on time, within budget and with high quality. Eyal was at the house every day and made sure that the remodeling progress is on track. He was there for each and every step of the work, which was extremely important to us. We highly recommend them for anyone who is searching for high quality remodeling or construction work.

I received a quote from alpha roofing within 24 hours of my request. They were upfront in assessing the situation. Several tiles were cracked, among them due to improper installation of solar panels which happened over a decade ago. The day after the initial assessment, Alpha Roofing did the job. They replaced the cracked tiles and patched the broken exhaust pipes. They took before and after pictures of the roof; they give a one year warranty. They're easy to deal with and are very professional.

Samson Roofing saved the day for my entire home improvement project!! I was all set to have my home “modernized” with several energy efficiency upgrades starting with and including the installation of a “cool” new roof, when the day before the roofing project was to begin, the planned roofing company backed out of the project!! I was in a real bind (as I had taken a week’s vacation) to oversee the several projects that were to be completed. On Sunday night, Samson Roofing was contacted and first thing Monday morning, Lior (from Samson Roofing) was at my door. His foreman came out on Tuesday to make sure they could order the needed materials; and they started the roof replacement on Wednesday. They worked long and hard for next four days (which just happened to be the four hottest days this year here in the west end of the San Fernando Valley). They put on the finishing touches the following Monday. Their Team (Rafael and Martin and helpers) were great and Lior was in constant contact and kept on top of requesting the inspections from the city. Their hard worked enabled the rest of my project(s) to complete on time. I am grateful for them coming to the rescue for me. I recommend them to anyone with any roofing needs. Best Regards, Dave West Hills, CA

I hired Parsa Construction to paint my house and change my flooring from carpet to hardwood. I was very impressed with how professional and nicely the job was done. They made sure it was exactly what I wanted. The team was very professional and courteous. The hardwood flooring looks amazing. They painted the walls and ceilings as well as the base boards very neatly. I now have a modernized and beautiful home all thanks to Parsa Construction. The consultation was fantastic. The consultant, Enrique stopped by and told me exactly how they were going to do the job and what was needed in order to complete it. Their pricing was extremely reasonable and I couldn’t be more satisfied with their services. Thank you.

I have a rental property in North Hollywood which my dad bought back in the 60’s. A few month ago our tenant moved out after 15 years at the house, and we had to fix it all. We had to install new carpet flooring in the bed rooms, new paint to the walls and ceiling and we decided to replace the roof at the same time. Right at the time we started to look for a contractor for our project, a friend from work told me how excited he was with the new master bath he has just completed in his house with “This great contractor”. I decided to call that “Great contractor” and see what he has to say about my project. Not to mention, me and my wife we both work, we have 3 kids and we don’t have any time what so ever to spend with any unprofessional. Long story short… we met Leo at our property the next day. After 3 days the work began, and it all was completed in less than 2 weeks. I’m completely happy that finally I found the right contractor to do everything that I need without all the hustle around it. They finished the work on time, they were dedicated, they worked clean, there were no addons during the work. The schedule of payments worked perfect for me. It was a bit more than our budget but I decided not to look for the cheapest guy around (bad experience from another project I had a year ago), but to find a professional who will deliver for me exactly what I want, in my time frame in order for me to be happy, and I’m OK with paying for it. Let me tell you… finally I did the right thing. I’m very happy with the work and I recommend Leo to everyone I know.

I will use no other roofer. Years ago, I had a persistent leak around a skylight. Other roofers tried and failed, but Steve Glazer fixed it. Perfect. He also put in roof vents. They have never leaked. Last Fall I asked him to put a new roof over a large portion of my old, failing roof. One tricky section had leaked for 14 years despite other roofers' repairs. He came in at budget, and the roof held through a hard storm in January. Equally important, he is on time; everything is left clean and tidy. He has a great work crew; I love those guys. My review is based on years of experience with Glazer Roofing.

Skylights make great additions to our home. Not only do they provide natural light, but they also increase our home’s market value and comfort level. At night, you can even look at the stars through your roof window. We can reap the benefits of skylights by having us at Mls Roofing & Waterproofing install skylights onto our roof.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

    • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
      • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
    • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
    • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
    • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
    • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
    • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
      • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
