Hiring movers was the best thing I've ever done and 5 Star Moving made it such an easy experience! I requested a quote to move from Carson, CA to Sacramento, CA, which is roughly 400 miles. After I reached out to them, Mike came to my apartment for an estimate. Just a few hours later I received an estimate in my email. I was looking at another moving company that my parents had used previously, who had quoted us a lower quote. 5 Star Moving matched the price when I asked them! A day before the move they confirmed with me via email and everything was ready to go. Mike and Azo were extremely professional, hardworking, and fast. They're very friendly and polite, but didn't waste time chitchatting. They moved my 800 sq ft apartment on the 3rd floor in under 2 hours and I was able to hit the road earlier than scheduled. They showed concern regarding the stress put on my cats while they were emptying the apartment, which I really appreciated. The guys wouldn't let me carry anything so I just sat back and relaxed! Before they left, they explained how many rest stops they would be taking and how long their breaks would be. On the road, they kept me updated with ETAs through text. Of course since they were driving a truck I beat them to Sacramento, but I wasn't worried since I knew exactly when I should be expecting them thanks to their updates. They unloaded the truck really quickly and nothing had been broken or damaged. They were no doubt tired, but said they were going back to LA the same night! With a total driving time of roughly 16 hours round trip for them, I really appreciate the quick and friendly service Mike and Azo provided. I would recommend these guys and 5 Star Moving 100%. The only thing I'm sad about is that they don't have a base in the Sacramento area so I can't hire them again the next time I move! =)

Barry and his team of guys were amazing! My fiancé and I moved into a new house and we weren’t 100% sure about how we wanted the furniture arranged. These guys were totally happy to shift things around for us here and there until we were totally happy. Really amazing considering all the heavy lifting and hard work. I would most definitely use Flash moving again and will reconmend then to anyone I know who’s in the process of moving. Thanks again guys!

Could not be happier with Nicks work! His team helped me move my family from a tricky upstairs apartment into our new home. He showed up 5 mins early and busted his butt until the job was done! Most people (including me) would rather go to the dentist than have to go through the process of moving. Nick made the worst part of moving a breeze. I would definitely refer him and his team to family and friends. Thanks Nick!

What didn't we like is better question! This was our first time using Roadrunner and we were most impressed with their professionalism. We had a complex move that required a bunch of different moving parts and they were able to accommodate everything. They were efficient, fast, great problem solvers and very friendly the entire time. We will be using them ever move going forward. Lastly I would like to mention that we trusted them which is a big deal when you let strangers in your home :)

All I can say is wow these guys are great! I was planning on doing the move from Los Angeles to San Francisco on my own, but once I found out how much it would cost me to rent a truck and buy all the boxs as well as equipment need to do the job I was left dumbfounded. It's turn out it was a lot better to just hire a company. This moving company-was able to squeeze me in last mintue when others would not with out charge me this crazy fee. They were able to move a lot of my large furniture like if it was notting. Over all I did not have a single negtive remark to say. The whole experence was enjoyable as far as any move goes. I would recommand these guys in a heart beat. Once again thank you Moober moving company.

As a first time mover, I was in sorts of panics. After a friend suggested me, I called up Alpha & omega moving & storageto help me move. They were very friendly on the phone and it seemed quite reassuring. Their crew arrived on time the next day. They seemed very strong and muscular. They packed all my belongings neatly and taped the boxes properly. My furniture was put in van very carefully. The made the delivery on time and I received all my belongings in perfect condition. I’m glad I hired them.

We recently use Rapid Moving Company to move items from apartment to our house. We used Culver City Location but I believe they also have location in Marina Del Rey. Prior to the move we researched local moving companies and the free quote, packing service, affordable moving costs plus rave reviews made Rapid Moving Company the best moving company for us. As you know relocation can be extremely stressful and a moving company with FULL moving service made things so much easier. Our movers David, Raymond and Niko, were very helpful and careful packing, and moving our items. If you're unsure as to whether you need moving help, trust me it makes things so simple, less stressful and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Thanks Rapid Moving Company for a great service!

Hi, I met Jason by accident. I was just in the middle of moving into my new apt and I crossed Jason in the elevetor and he kindly asked me if I needed help! Oh sure! Then, when I learned that Jason was a mover/handyman/all you wanna him to be (a little bit like a swiss knife...ask and you shall received. Jason is very courteous, on time, flexible (I had to change his work time at least 3 times the same day and he kindly managed to accomodate my request), talented and smart. Last but not least, once he is done with his work, he will clean up the place the way he found it, as if he was never there. I will definitely recommend Jason anytime to all my friends and people who are looking for an excellent, fast, reliable and detail-oriented mover/handyman. Please check him out.

They turned out to be a good moving company after all. Nothing was damaged during the move. The guys really helped a lot and everything was so heavy but they took their time moving every piece of furniture. I like how they didn’t raise the price at the end of the move and we paid what we were quoted. I would use them again for my next move.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
