1. Look at the attorney's website to be sure that he or she practices in the area for your matter. 2. Look the attorney up on the California State Bar website (www.calbar.org) to see how long he or she has been an attorney, whether he or she is with a law firm, and whether he or she has been subject to public discipline. 3. Search on yelp.com or other feedback website to review the comments about the attorney. 4. Determine whether the attorney charges for an initial consultation. 5. Bring a list of questions with you to the initial meeting, including hourly fee, costs, etc.
