Hired on Thumbtack

Honest, Creative, Reasonable Price. . .Truly Exceptional. I've worked with a number of computer repair shops in the past 20 years and this was by far the best experience. Tom was the first vendor to respond to my request on Thumbtack. He offered a price range saying he couldn't give a firm price without seeing my laptop. As it turns out, he made the repair at the price at the low end of the range while I've no doubt some vendors would have charged at the high end or more. We traded a couple of emails as I had questions. Tom's responses were quick and to the point. So I took my laptop to his shop. Tom greeted me when I entered his shop and remembered who I was from my emails. I told him that I needed a broken hinge replaced and I provided the replacement hinge. He took a look at the laptop before I left to be sure that the hinge was truly the problem. Turns our that the hinge was frozen and had broken out of the screw holes that fastened it to the plastic top. Tom checked prices of replacement covers online and found they run about $150. He said with labor it would cost about $250 to replace the hinge and the cover. That would have been the end of the discussion with most repair shops. But Tom proposed options. First he said he could "weld" the hinge to the broken cover. He offered that he had done this a couple of times in the past and the customers had not returned to say it hadn't worked. But he said it's possible that the hinges broke again and the customers didn't come back or that the welds held up. He then offered that since the cover was metal, he could attached the hinge putting screws through the cover. This would be stronger, but the screws would show. This was thinking outside the box. As I didn't care about the screws, this is the option I went with. I left my laptop with Tom and went home. Less than an hour later, he called to say the laptop was done!! When I picked it up, the screws were actually pretty unobtrusive. Better yet, the charge was the low end price Tom originally quoted. Great service at a reasonable price. You can't ask for more than that. I highly recommend Tom and Simple Office Solutions.
