I took piano lessons with Marissa - she was very flexible in terms of her schedule, and created a lesson plan around my learning goals. I've never played piano or sung before, but felt very comfortable to jump right in.
I have been taking drum lessons from Steve Trovao for about a year and a half now. And am having the time of my life, I have seen Steve teach students as young as three and as old as me, Im 52. He is a versatile teacher in that he adapts to every students needs and has amazing patience. I have been learning the blues, and have seen Steve at many venues from rock, blues, jazz, swing, reggae and many more styles, in which he uses in his teaching. I am looking forward to continuing my education with Steve.
Matthias has been giving my son drum lessons for almost 5 years. He is an outstanding teacher and knows just the way to relate to young people and keep them interested. He is also a terrific drummer.
Ariane is rare combination of a great player as well as a great teacher. She has mastery of a variety of styles, and can teach you what you want to learn. She organizes jam sessions with other musicians, and although I've never participated myself, this is a great service for jazz musicians look for people to play with.
I had my first drum lesson with Mike Hoffmann today. He is a very professional and I had also fun learning from him. He is excellent and I am happy. Ping Haas

I have been taking drum lessons with Eyal for two years. I have grown so much as a musician and as a person from my time with Eyal. He pushes me to practice and to love the drums, in a supportive, kind way. I can't thank him enough for how much he has helped me!
Just had my first guitar lesson with Ryan and it went great! Thought he had a great balance between teaching me the technicalities while also incorporating the stylistic types of music we discussed that I wanted to learn. I am a beginner student and felt very comfortable with Ryan, he has a great personality and made my lesson both educational and fun! Looking forward to continue working with and learning from him. - Jess
Mike is one of the best drummers I've worked with, and I've worked with many. We played both rock and jazz styles. A sensitive player and easygoing so easy to work with.
I am offering drum lessons to kids and adults in San Francisco and the greater Bay Area. Fun, flexible and affordable. Please contact me for more details. Have a great day!
Thomas is great with the kids. So focused on them and enthusiastic. My son, who has not liked music or playing an instrument, recently signed up with Thomas for drumming lessons. He's like a new kid. LOVES it!
I worked with Ty for 3-4 years in his role as a drumline and pit percussion instructor. From technique tips to targeted exercises and on-field marching advice, Ty applied his years of drum corps experience to help us execute a clean, confident, and musical show. Ty is a friendly and perceptive teacher who has logged thousands of hours as a touring drummer. I recommend him highly if you're thinking about drumset lessons.
Jeremy has been my personal instructor for the last few years and has helped me grow tremendously as a drummer. He was the first instructor I had who emphasized both rudiments/book learning AND learning by instinct/feel. He has also made his personal time available outside lessons to review videos of my performances and provide feedback. He has been both compassionate and demanding, and I recommend him highly to anyone who is serious about being a great drummer.
Alex is one in a million! He teaches music through a structural perspective rather than by the more traditional method of learn a note here, learn a note there (I haven't played the piano since I was a child, but I still cringe at the memory of the tedious and monotonous scales, finger exercises and simplified classical pieces I used to have to play). Alex's lessons are anything but tedious, and, even though I am essentially a beginner (having forgotten everything I learned as a child), I feel like I am well on my way to having a deeper understanding of what I am playing because I have a developing understanding how it works. I feel like I am learning the language of music through total immersion rather than by the textbook method of learning how to read the notes. I now listen to and hear music differently, and there is much I am learning on my own. I am especially pleased with the way Alex tailors my lessons around what I want to do rather than what he thinks I should do. As a result, I am learning to play jazz piano rather the stuff I was forced to play as a child (unless I want to, of course, in which case he would teach me that). And the best part (as if it could get better)? Alex is so enthusiastic about what he does that it is contagious and makes working with him a sheer joy. There is not much I look forward to and enjoy more than my lessons with Alex. Needless to say, I highly recommend Alex Balmaceda for anyone who is interested in learning more about music than simply reading and playing the notes.
Great instructor. Thorough and knowledgable. I played two drum beats on my first drum lesson and I had never played drums before. I progressed rapidly and after 6 months can comfortably play with a band.
I've been a professional drummer for over 30 years and have been teaching drums for 15 years. I do rock band group lessons and performance.
Hey, folks! I'm Nick, a touring and recording drummer from Oakland who has played and still plays all around the world. Drumming is my favorite thing to do. Check out my super extensive music resume at my website. I teach drums privately in my Oakland studio, at some of my students' homes, at the School of Rock at both of the Bay Area locations in San Francisco and San Mateo (these kids are amazing!), I teach as a substitute at the Academy of Language and Music Arts in Orinda, CA, and is exploring music in San Jose. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all music teaching. With that in mind, I tailor my lessons to each individual student's needs and interests. We start with the kind of music that you love most, and we slowly work outward from there, expanding the concepts. I've played and taught jazz (everything, from swing to seriously advanced Elvin Jones and Tony Williams' jazz drumming), hip-hop, R&B, indie rock, metal (blast beats and double bass), Afro-Beat (Gnawa rhythms, etc.), Southern Indian music, experimental and improvised playing, etc. We'll work on whatever you really want to do. Do you want to just learn the basics? Okay! Do you want to learn to play for fun in a garage band? Great! Do you want to be the next drummer for Slayer? Awesome! Do you want to learn drums, so you can produce better hip-hop beats on your MPC? Let's do it!
First I’d like to thank you for considering me as a drum instructor. It is a privilege to work with musicians of any age, to share in that world wide conversation wherein we may learn a little something new about music. If we end up working together I hope the lessons might not only give you a few new licks and ways to orchestrate your rudiments, but also play some role in developing the way you think about music in general.
At our studio, we put your hands on drums and percussion instruments of various kinds and sizes to make joyful music. Our music director and instructor Baba Ken has more than three decades of experience in teaching African music and drumming. We provide our services to people of all skill levels even professionals. We have school assemblies. We can teach private, big group, or small group classes. We can teach at your home, our studio, or any other place you choose. Travel adds expense to the hourly rate. We realize not everyone learns at the same pace; therefore, we invest a lot of time on each individual until they feel comfortable with a given lesson before attempting the next challenge. Learning to play the drums is like a baby's first attempt at crawling or walking: he or she falls down, gets up, and with determination finally learns the skill, feeling great pride in the accomplishment. Drumming for pleasure or excellence can create harmony of the mind, body, and spirit; it is a great thing you cannot afford to deny yourself. Just do it. Don't hesitate. Call today to take your first or second step.
I provide guitar and drum lessons. I have been playing both instruments for over 10 years. I have history working with children. Beginning and intermediate skills will come to you!
I specialize in teaching students how to feel what they learn on the kit in their whole body. This is what makes drumming an incredible experience. Whether I am working with a beginner or a seasoned player, I aim to help students feel the rhythm in a profound way.
