John Bertinetti helped me study for the GMAT exam over the summer of 2017 with concentrated sessions to review GMAT Quant. John got me started on a study path by sharing info about the best study resources for my problem areas, and would meet with me once or twice a week to go over key Quant problems that I needed help solving. John is an ideal tutor for students who are good at keeping themselves on track without a structured curriculum. Great value, flexible scheduling, and clear explanations of problems are all huge wins with him. About halfway through the summer, I realized that I needed a structured class and more discipline to keep myself on schedule, so I supplemented my study sessions with John with an independent online class with a live teacher. Key lessons w/John: John is all about understanding the concepts behind a problem before sharing tricks; his method is great for learners like me who need to understand the math conceptually and don't want to just memorize formulas. We did a lot of work on combinatorics and probability, which were my challenge areas. He was a great and affordable supplemental resource for me beyond the class. Results: I went from a 580 on my Manhattan GMAT diagnostic to a 730 score on the actual GMAT after 3 months of light study followed by 2 months of intense study.

Since December 2015 Christian has been tutoring my high schooler daughter, who had difficulty with Spanish grammar. Christian is the best tutor we ever had. He is very thorough, and explains grammar very well. He always prepares a lot of grammar exercises in advance, and makes sure that his student not only understood the new grammar concept, but can also use it correctly. He brings a lot of extra materials from different sources, and he also prepares exercises from the textbook that my daughter has to use at school. He really cares about the progress and grades of his students. In "emergencies" his students can count on him as well. Before tests he has always been willing to squeeze in an extra lesson when we ask him, even on Sundays. In addition to all that, he can make a stubborn teenager work. What more could we wish for more?

John-Michael is the professional tutor I needed in my life. Math was such a dull subject and he brings it to life with his enthusiasm and curiosity. I genuinely fell in love with math! My Pre-Calculus grade shot up to an A (from my dark past of a D) after working with him for 1.5 months. He's refined my work ethic and respect for this subject and I couldn't ask for anything better. I continue to see him every week and its always a pleasure!

I hired Scott to help me with writing and composition of my essays for graduate school. I am so happy I met him and that he agreed to work with me. From day one, I realized that my work and ideas were in really good hands. We started working together at the beginning of the school year and he’s been with me every step of the way. My writing has greatly improved, as have both my grades and my personal and original voice, which I never knew I had! I highly recommend Scott. He’s a gem of a tutor and person.

It is very difficult to find an AP calculus tutor who knows what here she is talking about. Then I had heard of Arbor Tutors through a friend and called them. The tutor met me at the library every Saturday for 12 weeks and completely turned around my grades. I went from a C average to a high B+ and now I'm starting to get A's. Yay for Arbor Tutors!

I would highly recommend Dan to anyone looking for a quality tutor who is devoted to making sure your child fully understands the subject that he has been hired to teach. He was always prompt and was also very accomodating. Our daughter was having difficulty in AP Physics and asked for help. Fortunately, we hired Dan. She ended up getting an A in the class. He also helped her improve her ACT score. We could not have been happier with the quality of tutoring that Dan provided. He is a true professional in every sense of the word.

About

I provide creative teaching/tutoring, such as reading, reading comprehension, spelling, grammar, vocabulary building, writing, both creative and exposition, editing, proofreading. I am a Bay Area native, by longevity, not birth. I have a San Francisco State University BA in english language, most of the coursework for an MA in the teaching of composition and reading comprehension. I ran my own proofreading and editing business since 1986. I taught English skills at a local technical school for 6 years, reaching curriculum coordinator at that time. I changed jobs to local junior college to teach court reporting, English skills, formatting, proofreading, spelling, vocabulary, and later, ethics and law and extensive one-on-one student contact for ten years. I went to Santa Clara School of Law while working part-time on the second year and full-time on the third year. I graduated in the top 20%. I won the American Jurisprudence Award for excellence in legal research and writing. I spent two summers as a research assistant in criminal law and procedure. I did pro bono legal work for seniors and continued working at the JC, when health issues required me to slow down. Since then, I've continued my proofreading business, making and selling jewelry, crocheting items for both sale and charity and other "Anne Made" crafts, creating a wonderful garden, baking and cooking, reading a lot, journal typewriting and pro bono legal work for the needy. I find myself itching to return to teaching. It's what makes me happiest. I love student interaction. I love creative problem solving and I bask in the glow of the lightbulb that winks on over a student's head when they get it. Contact me if you desire a more detailed resume.

About

Laila’s appreciation and passion for learning and teaching came at an early age. Teaching Saturday playschool activities at the age of 12, she had her first TA position at her British Secondary school by 15, and began teaching English and Math through cartooning at 18. She is also academically excelled in that she began programming at 11, studied artificial intelligence at 16, 10 GCSE’s, 4 A’ Levels. A very extensive BA and double Masters (which she completed simultaneously in 2.5yrs with a GPA of 3.93) which are MBA in marketing and management and an MIT in Applications development, and several certifications. Currently she tutors and teaches over 63 subjects, high-stakes standardized tests and study skills. Her secret is her aggressive desire to learn and having a highly skilled memory system does provide a great tool. She uses visual cues, technological mediums and traditional learning methods in order to provide the best possible results. She works with students from K-12, undergrad, and grad, from different learning curves including those with ADD and dyslexia. I truly do believe that education is a vehicle to pursue success. I enjoy teaching and facilitating the learning process. There is something amazing that happens when you watch a student learn and achieve understanding and in turn reach a higher grade or pursue further education. I am young, well educated in a variety of subjects. I do research on topics prior to meeting with students and I have both online, one-on-one and group tutoring/ teaching experience. I make teaching an understanding not just -'you need to learn this because you have to'. I try my best to find how you can best learn and apply those methods that suit you. Everyone is different and deserves to learn the way that they can achieve the most out of and to excel. I like to think of myself as well rounded and having worn many different hats to teach myself to become as versatile and knowledgeable in as many areas as I could. This I have practiced in my professional career as a brand specialist and as a tutor. I have pursued an extensive degree in undergrad, 2 masters and several certifications as well as a 20 year history as a tutor. About

I think it's the passion I have for tutoring subjects I excel at. I build rapport quickly with students, and am very professional and honest in my dealings. Once I have a client, I am dedicated to them, and very rarely miss appointments. I want them to experience the same joy I have experienced in learning certain subjects. This for me is the process of giving back to others, what has been so freely given to me.
