Joyee Lin of Thinque has been nothing short of amazing. Professional with results to show. My daughter started working with Joyee a couple of months ago. Within six lessons, my daughter's composite ACT score went from a 28 prior to working with Joyee to a 32. Amazingly, her science score went from a 25 to a 32. Those numbers are the end result of Joyee's professional approach to teaching. During the lesson, Joyee utilizes a number of methods to present the material. It must be said that my daughter took his instruction seriously and worked hard on the material which was provided to her. The result was a good example of team work in which my daughter could receive, in addition to immediate instruction, quick review and understanding after working through the material. Joyee makes it easy to work around a busy lifestyle as he schedules and responds to correspondence promptly. We can't offer him enough praise. Joyee is offering an amazing service and we were so glad to have been referred to him.

I do not have enough kind words to say about Elsa! She is truly phenomenal in every way -- from her kindness and caring demeanor, to her sincere dedication and commitment to helping me learn Spanish. Right from the start, I knew that Elsa was the right fit: she was, of course, a native Spanish speaker with a wealth of cultural and linguistic knowledge, but more than that, she had clear plans of the best approach to teach me Spanish based on my prior knowledge level (which was very basic). She always gives extra time to her clients, and thus is extremely generous with her time, hosting us in her home and not stopping until we finish the lesson at hand. Unlike my previous schooling experiences learning Spanish, Elsa personalizes each lesson based on our progress and in ways that are conducive to learning Spanish in everyday life. Her experience teaching Spanish truly shows in each lesson. While there are certainly many Spanish instructors to learn from, Elsa has to be one of the best -- I really recommend choosing her in your journey to learn Spanish. Besides being an excellent teacher, she is truly just a wonderful person -- she is caring, genuine, and altogether an extraordinary teacher to learn Spanish from, with a positive and encouraging attitude at an excellent value. I am grateful for her help so far and look forward to many future lessons with her in the future.

Pablo makes learning Spanish fun! He is also very technical and can explain why /how the language is different from English. You will never want "more" from your Spanish teacher/tutor, because Pablo always is ready to give his students the challenge they are ready for. The only limit is yourself. I recommend Pablo with my upmost praise!!

About

Hi, my name is Sasha Leal. I am a native Spanish speaker, born and raised in the business mountain city of Monterrey, Mexico. I have been outstanding in public speaking and creative writing since I was little. I studied at Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon. My poems have been featured in the Architecture faculty's 60th anniversary edition (UANL) and also exhibited at art events, and currently, I still write for pleasure. I have experience teaching ESL, Spanish, and K-12 subjects. (I can provide my resume and references). Something really special about my teaching is that I like to keep every lesson energetic. I like to keep it fast-paced by targeting the interests of the students. Let's say, if you like cooking, I know I will get your attention by talking about ingredients and recipes rather than talking about cars or celebrities. I like to customize my tutoring based on what is needed (age, personality, and number of students is taken into account), so that people grow their passion for Spanish and stay motivated to work hard. Keep in mind: If you have a good sense of humor, expect smiling and laughing while you learn. You will overcome the pain of learning something for the first time and be capable of knocking the fear of failure out of your mind. I am very expressive; I use a lot of gestures and body language in general, helping students connect with the meaning of concepts and Latin culture, instead of depending on word-for-word translations. Students generally feel invited to communicate freely. I love what I do, and I know you will love learning Spanish, too. I can offer the first hour lesson as a courtesy. I would like to know about your study goals and expectations and see if we can work out a schedule, or see if sporadic study support is what you are looking for. I am flexible; I work with all ages, one-on-one, or with groups. I am very excited to know you; let's start working! Descubre que puedes lograrlo, - Sasha Material information: I follow "Ultimate Spanish" by Living Language (beginner to intermediate level) study plan of 40 lessons. I also own a copy of "Easy Spanish" by McGrawHill. I will work with your preferred study plan or your current material.

About

I started to teach my Spanish classes since 2010 when I lived in London. This experience was amazing. I enjoy when people learn and know more about Spanish language.

About

I teach Spanish to children and adults looking to forward their bilingual grammar with reading, writing and speaking exercises, in order to forward communication skills in the Spanish tongue. I also teach definitions and how to translate Spanish to English or vice versa.

About

I just want to teach conversational Spanish as well as interpret medical and legal documents.

About

I am a scientist and educator. I have a bachelor's degree in pharmacy and a diploma in Spanish language. I like to teach, and it's a passion I developed from my mother who is now a retired teacher. Spanish is a language I adore so much, and I like passing it on to other people especially those who want to learn the language or those who need it for their day-to-day lives.

About

I have been working for school for about 18 years. I work for the special education department and mainly part of my job is to translate papers from English into Spanish. Also, I teach Spanish to middle school kids.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
