We were moving from our 3 bedroom condo to a 4 bedroom house. The movers were a party of 4 and a truck who showed up exactly on time. They were very prompt and organized. We had packed most of our loose items in boxes. So they mainly had to focus on the big items. All the furniture was handled with care and neatly wrapped in plastic. They also did a good job of neatly assembling all the furniture at our new house. They made sure all the boxes and items were delivered to the correct room. They were quite friendly and acted very professionally. We had a lot of big items and they made sure the move and assembly was completed within a reasonable time. Overall my experience with MGB has been excellent. I would recommend them to any customer looking to make a hassle free move.

Moving went smoothly and great! Both guys were friendly and efficient. The only hiccup was with the start time. The movers thought we were starting at 7am, but it was scheduled for 9am. I rushed to my old apartment since they were already there, and didn't want them to have to wait or reschedule. Maybe a confirmation call the night before versus the day of so there's no confusion?

I've had a lot of tree trimming done around my house and this is the first time I was sincerely pleased. Not only is Nery a sweetheart, but he is a true professional and knows how to trim and cut down trees the correct way. I highly recommend him and his team. Thank you again, Nery! You'll be hearing from me again!

I've had pretty bad experiences with other moving companies like didn't showing up at all,not reliable or a lot of broken furniture etc. For my recent move I did a little research and contacted several moving companies and only couple of them get back to me with affordable quotes. The other companies prices were high expensive. And I decided to go with 5 star moving because they had pretty good reviews on yelp. On the move day the movers called me 20 min ahead and they were very polite. My move was very smooth from beginning to the end. I would not hesitate to recommend or call them again, not only for their competitive prices but for their professionalism and courtesy.

The experience was great. The two movers were great. They were fast and got things done from door to door fully loaded in four hours. The only reason it's not a five star is that we had said to be there at 9AM and they were late. Otherwise excellent.

The entire experience was flawless. The two movers that came to help were clean and very helpful. They made sure all the glass was wrapped and ensured that all furniture was strapped in truck. They moved us as though they were moving their own items. I would recommend them without thought. Thanks for the experience from the Admin person Garina to the two men that moved us. Moving is usually not a good experience but you all made it much better.

Tony and his associates were very professional. Not only were they very reasonably priced but they did an excellent job. We originally hired them to move our piano. Not only did they move it, but they allowed us to add other furniture for a very reasonable price. Everything was delivered and put in the correct place. Thank you 101 Movers for making this move painless.

He moved a large, heavy credenza. It was turned down by 3 charitable organizations that wasted my time by assuring me on the phone it would be removed, but each time their movers rejected it. Brett is careful, professional and pleasant.

His 2 Movers Kevin and Shea were very accomodating. They even took my plants (which they were not supposed to and boxed up my lamps. And Paul stood by his firm quote. Paul came to give us a quote and we felt he was very honest and up front with us. The truck was a little small but the movers did a fantastic job and fit everything in just when it looked like everything wouldn't fit!!!!!! The movers even had to took apart our dining room table and our desk cause it wouldn't fit through the doorway...I know why now they are called Top Notch Movers... Thanks Paul Great job!!!

Thank you My American Movers and Gerson Sarmiento for an excellent moving. We hired them last month for a local moving(Denver,CO to Denver, CO). They gave us a quite large discount when they knew that its not our first time hiring them for a moving. They really generous and very professional. Excellent as always! From the first moving and to the second. I hope I can see bad things about this people but nope, cant see a slightest mistake and bad things about them. The professionalism was great. The energy and morale of the movers were high. And I never saw them complained on how heavy the thing they're carrying. One of The Best Company indeed!

Just finished a move with these guys today and it was definitely a great experience.   Pre-move: The manager Li kept in constant contact with me to ensure that the appointment time would be correct.  I verified with them 2 days before and the day before to make sure we were still scheduled.  The day of the move which was today, they showed up exactly on time and prepared which was excellent: During Move:  The movers were great.  They came with all the required equiipment to get their job done quickly and efficiently.  They had dolly's, those 4 wheeled cart things, and a bonus blankets with tape to wrap up your valuable furniture.  They wrapped and protected the couches, TV's and mirrors to ensure that they survive the trip.  THey were also very quick to getting things out of my old apartment and into the movers truck, and finally into my new location. Overall, it was a great experience using these guys for your move.  They actual movers were super friendly and not sketch looking which made me a little more comfortable letting them handle my goods.  They defintely made the moving experience, which is already freaking stressful as it is, very simple and Im glad this whole ordeal is over. Thanks Guys!

Moving, in itself, is so enormously stressful. It sucks, and I regularly do everything I can during an apartment hunt to avoid moving at all costs - aka, finding a place that I'm going to stay in for as long as possible. But there are moments in life when it's just unavoidable, like when it's time to move into your own home as a single mother. Which means moving stress is inevitable. Conrad is a God sent. I can't even begin to describe how incredibly awesome, wonderful, and hassle-free he made my moving. He finished the unload at my new place about less than 24 hrs ago and OH MY GOD I am so grateful to him and his guys for rocking it. I didn't want to waste money on paying movers to move when I could move them myself, but they were experts with the big and bulky pieces and storage bins and boxes....CONRAD OVER EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS....which was fantastically priced compared to others in the area. I should mention too that my request was last minute yet he immediately offered to show up with his crew, a big broad smile, strong helping hands and very accommodating on price. Even better yet, he did it so fast in the scorching heat. ENORMOUS THANKS AND LOVE to conrad. Truly, you made the conclusion of my move so stress-free and easy that my sorrow of leaving my old place and concern of unpacking in my new place is just totally gone. I will absolutely use you...I hope not....😊 in the future and recommend them to any and all people moving. God bless Leonie

I chose Roadrunner because they responded to my request quickly and gave me the confidence they would do the job within budget. On the move day they let me know they were on their way 30 mins prior to their arrival and showed up within the window of time promised. You get a text confirmation the day prior. The move was completed under the estimated time. The movers were courteous, professional, and worked quickly. Jason, the owner, also checked in periodically to ensure the quality of the work being performed. Do not think twice about hiring Roadrunner for your move. They are good people doing good work, and I would hire them again. Thank you.

I had a simple, one-item move. The owner and movers were very easy to work with and handled my sofa quickly and carefully. I knocked a star off because they said they would be there at 3pm and arrived at 5pm. Also one of the movers reminded me that they work for tips. I understand that movers work really hard so I had already planned to give them one. As you can imagine, I was a bit turned off by that reminder.

I had a fantastic experience with Carlos! He was very helpful in the Thumbtack app asking good questions and helping me prepare for the job. He arrived on time and work expediently - he even took on additional work as the job grew and gave me a fair price. He was pleasant to work with and I'd very much trust him to do additional work on a house or commercial project. He is extremely knowledgeable and a total pro! Thank you, Carlos~

Simple Moving helped my family with our local move from Culver City to West Los Angeles area. andrew and his helper called ahead to let us know what time they should arrive, they were on time and got right to work. They hustled the whole time and were very careful with our belongings. I couldn’t be happier with our move. I have dealt with shady movers in the past, Simple Moving is the exact opposite. Professional, honest, and fast. I would recommend them without hesitation.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
