First I want to stay thank to MGB, your service was absolutely superior, and your rates are great! Words to describe this team is 5 Star professionals. Mario and Oscar went above and beyond .They arrived 10 minutes before the scheduled appointment time, ready to get started. The truck was more than adequate to handle my move, spacious., clean, well maintained. They handled my items with care. I had 3 large closets of clothing they packed for me into the wardrobe boxes they provided .Every piece of furniture was wrapped with care and delivered without a scratch. My bedroom furniture is difficult to disassemble/reassemble, but these pros were able to move through the process effortlessly. They placed every single item exactly where I wanted, I even had them move somethings more than once and they did it with a smile. Here's another amazing thing about MGB, once the truck was loaded and we were ready to go to my new location Mario reviewed with me the route they were taking and their estimated arrival time. In addition he provided confirmation of his ID, he said I want you to be confident you know who has you belongings.I have contracted many moving companies over the years and no one ever exceeded my expectations until now, MGB Relocation is outstanding and provides excellent customer service. Plus they are just a crew of very nice gentleman. Don't hesitate to contact MGB you will not regret it.... Deborah L.

Mr. Rodarte was a LIFESAVER!. I had this recliner that I needed to get rid of. I called a bulk moving company who wanted to me detach the recliner and leave it outside on the curb for a pickup. Well, I am a senior citizen, living alone, so that was out of the question. I contacted a pickup service (ex: Goodwill, Salvation Army) who assigned me a date, but it would be up to the discretion of the driver whether or not to take it, and I needed it OUT! I was desperate, so I did a search engine request for a Handyman and came across Thumbtack. My request was answered in 2 hrs. by Mr. Rodarte. He was wonderful! He told me "no problem, I will take care of it". My prayers had been answered. He was at my apt. on time, picked up that recliner, (no detaching) and left. I feel I have made a new friend with Mr. Rodarte and would recommend him highly! I know I will use him in the future again. Thank you so much Thumbtack. You really delivered

I am the type of person who fastidiously researches before I act. When my family and I were moving back into our home post-renovation, I researched all the local moving companies through thumbtack. I made my usual spreadsheet with prices, reviews, licensed vs. insured, years in business & whether background checked; and reached out to my top choices. The family business News Moving Company quickly became my obvious first choice. From start to finish, Delila handled each & every question and concern I had with patience & diligence. She was very responsive and reasonable. Their reviews speak for themselves: over 90% are 5-Star reviews. They understood better than any my unique situation of not needing to move from one place to another, but rather move from Pods in my driveway back into my home. On the day of the move, Frank, Jesse, and one other mover showed up on time. The move was amazing - they were fast, yet super careful & conscientious. They handled our unique situation as if they’d done it a million times and kept in communication throughout. Unlike other companies in the past, they didn’t dilly-dally or stretch the time. They finished in the quoted minimum time and charged the exact fair price we had discussed. I highly endorse and would recommend News Moving to any friend, loved one, or reader like you! You will not be disappointed.

Hired Frank and his guys for a move. Liked the fact that he stopped by for an estimate first, so when it came time to quote me a price there were no surprises. They were there when they said they were going to be and everyone on the crew were hard workers. If your moving and you don't at least give Frank a shot to earn your trust, you might be left out in the cold.

He moved a large, heavy credenza. It was turned down by 3 charitable organizations that wasted my time by assuring me on the phone it would be removed, but each time their movers rejected it. Brett is careful, professional and pleasant.

These guys are fantastic. Extremely professional and efficient and the best value bar none from any moving company I've found in Los Angeles. I won't be using anyone else from here on out. Moved two couches for me up a trick flight of stairs at an impossible angle to my living room.

This was my first time hiring a moving company. Sergei and Edward were very punctual, courteous, friendly and extremely efficient. They wrapped all necessary furniture in blankets and saran wrap to protect it from damage. They brought a huge truck that had more than enough space. I moved into a three story town home, 50 miles away, and they got the work done in 3-4 hours. My door way is a bit narrow with a lot of stairs, but they managed to move in all my stuff without damaging anything. Even though it was a hot day they hustled the entire time. I would highly recommend their services to any of my friends, and would definitely use them for the future. Thanks again for making my move easy!

I was very surprised on the quick response I received from Conrad's hauling and delivery service. With a last-minute move, he was able to arrange a team to move my things with the short notice and was also flexible with how I wanted to go about the move. The day prior to moving, Conrad made an appointment to view the propertyi was moving out of at no additional cost for a quick pre-inspection. At that time he also provided me additional boxes and packing supplies which I didn't think I needed at the time (and yes, I needed it). Considering I was not prepared for the moving company to move all of my things the day of, they were able to pack additional boxes for me. I appreciated their professionalism and quality of work, wrapping any large items that were not boxed to prevent any damage during the move. With a difficult situation at the new property, Conrad was able to come back at a later time to help me finish the moving process. This was greatly appreciated as I was not able to move some of my belongings by myself. I highly recommend this company and have kept Conrad's business cards handy for friends and/or any future moves.

I would highly recommend this company to anyone! I was left high and dry on a Friday afternoon at the end of the month by another moving company. I spoke to Felix that same day and he was able to set me up for the next morning! From the initial call and follow up to the actual movers-Marvin and Caesar-everything was handled efficiently and professionally. I also had to move approximately 100 miles away and everything was handled seamlessly. This company saved me and insured I was into my new home and ready to start my new job on time. Call them! You will be glad you did.

I was referred to this company by friend who used them twice in a past and now I know why :) Not only they were super professional, fast with great work ethic but also very polite and friendly! My whole move took little under 5 hours considering tons of things both packed and unpacked, not to mention garage full of toys and random nick-nacks. Honestly, it felt like as if I was getting moved by friends. Price is very affordable but you get top notch service which is priority when shopping for a moving companies. Also, Eric at the office was extremely helpful and patient when I tortured him with jillions of questions. Highly recommend! Thank you guys for your hard work and positive attitude you made my life much easier today!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
