Piano Tuning

Cunningham piano service was a great choice. Extremely professional and excellent at his craft. I bought a used 90’s piano on Craigslist that was wonky, out of tune, and many problems under the sun. Steve fixed every single one of them. Now my piano is playing like it’s new. I’m going to keep him as my piano tuner/fixer upper until the day he retires. You won’t regret it!

Piano Tuning

Steve is a true gentleman. He checked EVERYTHING in my piano. Fixed it and tuned it faster than any tuner I used before. I highly recommend.

Piano Tuning

Amazing job! My piano is old as dirt and he was still able to tune it well! This is the best anyone has ever done with it. He arrived on time and was very pleasant to work with. I highly recommend hiring him as your piano tuner.

Piano Tuning

We have a very old piano that had not been tuned in years. Steve arrived on time, assessed the instrument, and discussed options and prices. When he left, the piano sounded nice again. What I appreciated is that he listened to what mattered to us, and was able to service this very old instrument making it enjoyable again.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

The basic tuning fee is $150. Any additional work will be quoted after an evaluation of the piano and its needs. No work will be done without permission from customers. No suprise fees! Attention to detail, knowledge, experience and skills are worth more than a cheap price.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I always evaluate each piano before doing any work to make sure it will hold tune, that it will play as well as possible after my work is complete. I thoroughly explain the condition so the customer understands the piano condition and any reasons for extra work.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I learned to tune pianos while in high school and received my first payment for a tuning when I earned my drivers license in 1970. Tuned my way through college at University of Tennessee. Graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in music eduction. My career began as a band director in Northern Virginia. It became quickly evident that my earning capability and piano technical skills would be better served in full time piano service. This began in 1979. I passed the Piano Technicians Guild written, technical and tuning exams in 1980 to become a Registered Piano Technician. Ongoing training is a must to stay up to date on the latest technology. I have studied with piano builders at Fazioli factory in Italy, Bösendorder in Austria and Schimmel in Germany. Kawai, Yamaha and Steinway and most all manufacturers seminars around the country the Piano Technicians Guild ongoing education.
