Archwork provides brilliant architectural services and much-needed project management. When I bought my fixer home, I decided to again engage their services after having a successful experience with a prior home. Although I was confident with my home purchase, I had little idea of the architectural solution. They consulted with me to gain an understanding of my goals before going to work -- budget, living needs, design/style preference and return on investment. It was truly a collaborative effort. Even through some expected design disagreements, we were able to reach solutions that satisfied both of us. Thankfully, they were never willing to compromise design integrity. As for the final product, I couldn't be happier. The design for maximizing the usable space and value of my home was spot on. I know it was a difficult challenge to retrofit new construction into the existing structure, but they succeeded in creating a seamless solution.Jul 19, 2015
I am not the type to write a review, I've actually never written a review (good or bad) about anyone or any business on Yelp or any site alike including this one, ever. I sent a message to Quentin seeking his services as my wife and I liked his posted work, we are currently in the discovery process seeking an architect. Here is a message Mr. Parker sent me tonight (mind you it's been 4-days since my original message + a 3-min phone call).. "Hi Doug, WHAT HAPPENED? Unfortunately with Doug -they did not respond in a timely manner, and I felt I had wasted precious time pursuing a commission that was not commensurate to the effort!~ We are extremely busy and appreciate the same kind of attention to courtesy responses.
Quentin at Archwork was very difficult to work with across all fronts. He was late to every in-person appointment we set, his turn around on changes was about a 3-4 weeks, and the designs we received did not conform to CBC requirements (all designs we received violated setback requirements). As such I terminated our contract with Quentin (see emails attached). We lost ~2 months worth of time and $2,500 for designs which were useless and had to start back at square one with a new architect. If you're planning on doing an ADU in Los Angeles, i would not recommend Quentin for the job.Aug 28, 2018VerifiedArchwork's reply
About Alex Bobo, Our agreement was for 25 hrs of service, flat fee. Usually it is enough to define project scope on a small scale... I am required by law to conform to CBC 2016 zoning setbacks, despite repeated requests "can we modify this". With over 42 hrs and four different layouts in three CAD sets proposed, despite more requests for changes and poor design layouts, this client was totally unreasonable about what could be approved. How did I tell someone courteously what poor design decisions are? Appointments I gave are a range in time, due to traffic and travel conditions, always. Why is 20 minutes late a big deal, ONCE, on a weekend? Understand here what obsessive compulsive behavior by a client is. After four separate design layout proposals still did not meet with his approval, yes I will be blatant about really bad design layout requests. Frank Gehry stated:"First clients hire an architect, then try to tell him what to do." Alex Bobo is clueless about what good design is. We build over 40 ADUs to very satisfied clients every year. How much experience does Mr. Bobo have? And yes, I pity the architect he hires, - choose your client wisely. I made that mistake, twice!

Unfortunately some projects and clients request illegal services. I don‘t deal well with stupid, irrational and illiterate clients, so we turn their request down. Go back to school Sergio, learn to spell.
My husband and I are currently working with Quentin on doing an ADU in Santa Barbara. We have found his designs, ideas, very professional and in line with what we are wanting to do. Due to our tight schedule and budget he has been able to not only get us draft drawings to review but has been available for revisions and calls whenever we need to speak. We are very excited about continuing our project with him and are confident that he can help us stay within our budget with giving us more than what we need.Aug 1, 2017Verified

A simple fee, as retainer - then usually 10-15% of total project construction costs for comprehensive architect services through the entire build process, which includes construction and project management services.
