Michael photographed my wedding and he was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!!!!!!! I was a crazed bride and he was able to assuage my worries every step of the way!! We met at a public place, signed a contract (short and simple, which was nice) and put down our deposit. Michael is professional and quick--we got our proofs before we got to the hotel that night and the edited photos within a week! I have had people compliment me both on how discreet Michael was--he was never "in the way"-- as well as how hard he worked throughout my entire event--"I don't think I ever saw him sit down!" Our edits came out beautifully and I was thrilled to have so many wonderful photos to choose from! I have already given out two of Michael's cards to friends looking for professional photographers, and I will always sing his praises. Michael R Erwine is a FANTASTIC photographer--you're doing yourself a disservice by working with anyone else!!!!!

Marta is absolutely fantastic! We hired her to surprise our Dad for Father's Day with family photos and couldn't have hoped for anyone better. She immediately connected with our family, was great at reigning in everyone and the kids all while making sure we were having a blast and laughing. She really made the whole experience so fun. We received the digital photos very quickly (within a few days) and were so pleased. My whole family would absolutely recommend her!

In searching for a videographer who could capture those special moments at my wedding last summer, I came across Go West Foto. Dave was an awesome guy to work with, he captured the essence of our wedding on video, from the start to the finish. He really had captured all the important moments of the day, and you need those reminders on video as a bride because your wedding day flies by! When we got the final video, there was one small part of the day that I felt was important to me that was left out, and I asked him about adding it, and he did with no issues. He is an easy going guy and very helpful to work with and was very likeable to all the guests at our wedding. Now we have a beautiful video for years and years that will remind us of our special day that only happens once in a lifetime! Thanks for all your hard work Dave, we love our Go West Foto wedding video!

Steve was just amazing! He showed up right on time for our “getting ready” shots, had the most legit looking set up for his camera I’ve ever seen anyone have off a movie set, and moved around seamlessly to get great shots but not get in the way of the special moments that make your wedding day what it is. He then traveled to the beach to get the ceremony and then back to our home for the reception. He looked and acted professional, my family felt comfortable being themselves around him and I couldn’t wait to see what he created. After a few weeks he told me he had the movie and I was so excited... but I could never have imagined what we watched! He used our first dance song as the background music, he dimmed it to get my mom (our officiant) saying the last few lines of her marrying us, and he put together the most awesome reel of all our family and friends getting together at the reception. I mean, slow shots, speed shots of him moving through scenery, close ups when people waved at him. It was incredible. My husband cried watching it! I thought the day was permanently fixed in my mind, but watching the video refreshed so many beautiful memories. And some close friends and family couldn’t make it, now we have 4+ minutes that we can share that makes it like they were actually there. I would recommend Steve to anyone, and can’t explain what a joy it is to watch your most perfect day again and again, truly magical. Thank you Steve!

Kevin was very professional and did an awesome job with the pictures. He was great with the kids and the action pictures he took came out awesome. I will be using his service again to do other photo shoots and would highly recommended his services. I was very very pleased and this was the first time I hired a photographer to do a photo shoot besides a wedding and was very pleased. Loved the place he recommended for the shoot since I wanted outdoor pictures taken of all the kids for my mom of her grandkids for Easter . I will definitely be using Kevin's photography again. Thank you kevin again the pictures game out great.

Chef is very talented and professional. He has a great eye/perspective. We have hired him for family photos, a senior photo shoot, and a few other personal photo needs. He makes sure every detail is covered, and I feel he provides a very good value for the services and amount of digital photos (raw and edited) we received.

Paul is a photographer's photographer. He has the eye and the technology to make any shoot work. As an instructor he's top-notch, with experience in journalism and technology that he is more than willing to share with everyone. His wife, Tammy, is part of the team, a major part...and what a wonderful lady! They both live a healthy lifestyle, with their dogs Tipper (the big one) and Peanut (the little guy)... more wonderful people I couldn't recommend more! If you need a shoot done right, call Paul!

Mike is an absolute boss! I've had the pleasure of working with Mike in a variety of professional areas – community service, event production and lately media creation. Mike's shot a few events for me with photos and video. His work is absolutely top-notch. He takes it very seriously, asks a ton of questions to make sure he's creating what you envision and executes perfectly. Here's a quick sample of a video he shot for me: https://www.instagram.com/p/BZALPA1DYNa. I'm very thankful to work with Mike and would highly recommend him to anyone who's looking for a high-quality media professional. Videos, photos, designs, websites – he can do it all, and do it very well. Jump at the chance to work with Mike.

Absolutely the most talented photographer I have ever worked with. Always comes with a vision in mind, but allows for the model to get creative. I love how much she integrates props into her work. After we completed one of our shoots, I was just messing with the props and we needed up capturing some amazing shots that are by far my most favorite. I have enjoyed working with Brit in the past & would be honored to be her model again.

We stand behind ALL of our work, we guarantee everything, whether its just a family portraiture session, or a commercial real estate client. We do NOT charge session fees to our portraiture clients. We do NOT charge for additional photographers in any of our wedding packages. We dont beleive in these fees, so why should we charge our clients ? We are not in business about the money, we are in it because we love what we do, and we want to show this by offering exceptional service.

Jason was a true professional from start to finish. When we first began to talk about planning for my wedding day, he listened to everything I had to say, and gave me great input on different option for documenting our special day. Jason was exactly where he needed to be the day of the wedding, although you could barely tell he was there because he was so respectful of our space. Believe me, as a jittery bride, this was a huge plus for me. He was extremely professional, but also great to talk to as we started with our video footage after the ceremony. Now to the most important part...the video! Oh the highlight reel...it is absolutely perfect. This was the reason I wanted to hire Jason to begin with. This is not your average wedding video...it is a breathtaking overview of the day done in such a unique way...I wouldn't change a thing. In fact, I am now asking Jason to do an additional video for us with more wedding footage because he is really incredible at putting it all together. If you want a video that truly speaks to the most special day of your life, hire Jason at Videoquest Productions...you will be thrilled you did.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
