Max is great to work with and he has a very pragmatic approach to self defense / martial arts. He has a very diverse background in training and he seems to select the components that work best given a particular context. He is direct and wants you to empower you with good technique and a strong mental framework. My introductory session went great, and I signed up for another block of classes - so far so good!
I first met Alina back in late 2015 when she and her guru flew in from Canada to San Jose CA where they taught a seminar on Non-classical Gung Fu and Modern Cimande Silat. I was thoroughly impressed not only at her strength and competence but also at her ability to articulate and teach her chosen arts well. At the end of the weekend seminar I was so bummed that she wasn't living locally because she had so much potential. About a year later, I was ecstatic to learn she was moving to the South Bay! I've been training with Josh for over a year and a half now. I first decided to train in mixed martial arts just as a new workout routine, and because I enjoyed the sport as a fan. I was essentially starting from scratch, and because of that I felt that getting personal training would be more effective than taking large group classes so that I would get the fundamentals down from the start. Josh was very patient in teaching me all the basics. He's a great teacher, and is able to break down some very complex techniques into simple instructions that can be applied. He also understands and focuses on what his students goals are and gears the training accordingly, so that you're always learning something specifically catered to helping you achieve them. Ive come a long way since I first started working with Josh and because I have gotten results faster than I originally expected, I now have a different set of goals from when I began. I have no doubt his teaching can help me get there. Josh definitely puts you through a tough workout, but its a lot of fun and I really look forward to it each week. He has accomplished a lot in this sport, so he can fit whatever experience level you are at. Before I began attending Vince's martial arts classes I was extremely shy and ashamed to go in because I was so over-weight. I would walk by his class and watch him and his experienced students and I so badly wanted to be there too. I finally decided to go in one day, despite of my hesitation, and that was the best decision I ever made. Since day one Vince has been extremely welcoming and tremendously patient and helpful. This last year I finally decided to take private training sessions with Vince and they are worth every penny. He's helped increased my cardiovascular and muscle fitness. The side effect of which has been weight loss. When I first started training in martial arts with Vince I was a complete newbie. I had no prior experience. After 2.5 years of training and an increase in private sessions I finally competed in my first fight. He has helped me every step of they way and has supported my growth as a fighter. I began working with Nate Moore a few years ago for the sole purpose of losing an extreme amount of weight. At the time I began working with Nate I weighed in at 230 lbs and after 16 months I was down to 125lbs. Prior to working with Nate I had joined several other gyms and always found myself getting bored and losing all motivation very quickly which resulted in not returning. Every single one of Nate's training sessions are exciting and he always provides new fun ways of challenging yourself regardless of your fitness level. His innovative training methods made me LOVE working out. Definitely not your typical boring workout routine. The level of dedication, energy, knowledge, patience and constant support that Nate provides is above and beyond anyone else that I've ever worked with. I think Jeff is a real stand up guy, he helped me get creative with my exercise routine and really increased my level of physical fitness and in turn my personal success. One thing that I think he could have done better was Charge More!!!! His services are so good I don't know why he isn't it some rich gym like Equinox. Will come back again!
