I hired David Gomes for installing two toilet fixtures. In addition to installing the fixtures, I had him do tile grouting in the shower and outdoor motion sensing solar light fixtures. He has affable manners and good at what he does. He is very prompt, flexible, and reasonable. I will hire him again without reservations.

Our new rental home warranty plumbing coverage does not include tile work, but the plumber they dispatched needs a bigger opening behind the mixer on the tile shower wall to confirm the source of the leak. I hired Arisel from AA Cardenas Construction to help me with the tile work. I would have hired him for the plumbing work itself if I had known him earlier and had got to choose my own technician under warranty. From the get-go responding to my Thumbtack request for quote to finishing the job, Arisel had been very responsive, professional, friendly, punctual and helpful. The job was beautifully done! While I was writing the check, knowing the job is being contracted to Home Warranty company Arisel still took the initiative to inspect the leak checking the ceiling downstairs and share with me what he thought the problem might be. With him pointing out, I was convinced that he was spot on! Arisel is apparently a hard working, honest and friendly young man! I will definitely hire him again for future jobs. I highly recommend Arisel.

Albino's team helped us do the following projects: 1) Juan painted the kitchen cabinets, bathroom walls and window sills; 2) Hector installed a new shower head and tile walls over the tub; 3) Hector replaced the bathroom exhaust fan twice. (First time my husband bought the exhaust fan which I did not like, so I bought another fan and Hector changed it with additional charge for the labor.) They provided very good services and responded to our request very quick. They also completed the job according to the schedule that they promised. Hector went with my husband to purchase materials and supplies, and they spent about 3 hours shopping at Home Depot. Hector was great in installing the shower head and tiles. He stayed late to complete the job to meet the due date. He also came back to fix the problem which we found after he left. If you need a licensed plumber then you will need to find someone else. However my husband thought Hector was an experienced worker and knew what he was doing. He was impressed when he went shopping with Hector. Juan has come back a couple times to touch up the paint and adjust the cabinet door upon request. We really appreciate their patience and cooperation. Excellent attitude and services. One job on our agreement list that we did not let them do was to replace the mirrors in bathrooms. Our concerns are first they can not guarantee to keep the mirrors intact when removing the mirrors, and second they asked us to get supplies to glue or nail the mirrors. Third, we can't find the right size of mirrors . So I decided to hire the worker who specially do mirrors replacement, even the cost was higher than Albino's team. Last thing, make sure to let them know if you need invoice or not when you get the estimate.

We had our front entryway replaced with tile. They were able to start the job quickly. They also showed up on time and did not waste any time getting to work. Everything was done and wrapped up in a timely matter. Very little mess, if any, was left behind. It was high quality work with only some minor issues (that most people wouldn't even see). I pointed some of them out and they were more than willing to fix them. We're very happy with the entryway and how it turned out. Thank you Vyron!

I hired Gusanito to install porcelain tiles in my bathroom. He was very prompt--being the first contractor to contact me on thumbtack--and quickly responded to my text messages whenever I had a question. He takes his time and is very detailed in his work. He is also willing to help you with other problems. For example, in addition to installing the tiles, I also wanted to change my sink faucet and shower handles. He agreed to do the extra work at a reasonable price. The tile installation went smoothly, however, we ran into plumbing issues which he couldn't solve. I'm giving him four stars because I hired him on thumbtack for tile installation services, not plumbing. Nonetheless, he agreed to bring his cousin (who is an experienced plumber) over the next day to change my sink faucet at no extra cost. The total work took about two full days to complete, but I'm sure it would have been less if we didn't run into the plumbing issues. So I recommend him but make sure you talk with him thoroughly about what you want to accomplish.

Great job installing appliance. Hardworking and diligent they finished on time and kept the place clean. They were also very detail oriented and pointed out exactly what was done to make sure it was to my satisfaction. I ended up using them again to work on some bathroom plumbing.

Justin is an incredibly nice guy who takes great pride in his work. All of the work he and his tile guy, Jonny, did passed inspections on the first try and they were both very accommodating to our schedule. We would highly recommend Justin and South Bay Builders for any home renovation or repair jobs.

I am extremely pleased with the major renovation of my home including kitchen, bathrooms, and all interior and exterior walls that Lifetime Remodeling completed for me on March. 13, 2018. I certainly welcome the opportunity to give them a five start rating. Everybody at Lifetime was top notch to work with---The supervisors of my project, Sam and Mike, back office and all the workers who came to make the completion of this project a reality were extremely hard working, very professional, and completely trustworthy. I also liked that this company works with many suppliers and saved us thousands of dollars on flooring, marble countertops, tile, cabinets and more. The supervising managers and their workers were also top-notch in every way. Because I am an older, single person it was very important for me to go with a company I could trust from the beginning to the end of the project. I'm thankful and could not be happier. I will gladly recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a general contracting business for their home renovation needs. They're top-notch all the way!

They are also very fun to work with. I am very happy with the results and will not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who needs nice remodeling projects.

Rafael just completed our dishwasher installation. He cut the existing cabinet and installed the dishwasher. He also made a filler piece to fill the gap between the dishwasher and cabinet. He is very friendly and professional. He is also careful not to damage the hardwood floors. He works very efficient. He also cleans (e.g. dust) while he is working. We hired him to work on other parts of our home after seeing the results of dishwasher installation.

I can't say enough good things about Roberto and his assistant. I found him on CraigsList when I was looking for someone to install my kitchen backsplash. When he arrived to give a free estimate, I found out that not only could he do the backsplash (and he had some great ideas about how to make it look better), but he was also able to fix some problems with the floor tile caused by a previous bad installation. They worked for three straight days on my project, staying until 10 or 11pm as necessary to get it done in time for the holidays. I'm a very picky customer, to say the least, and whenever I found a tile slightly out of place they would go back and fix it, no questions asked. They have very high standards and want the results to look as good as possible. I also found his price to be very reasonable. I would happily recommend Roberto to anyone and will hire him again in the future if I have need of a tile installer.

We hired Meir and his team do so our bathroom remodel. For the most part we are happy with the quality of the work. Meir was able to meet with us at odd times due to our odd work hours. We appreciated that. One thing we were surprised to receive at the end of the job was a bill for additional work requested. While there were a few items that we knew were out of scope, like additional hall lights and tiling of a closet, we did not expect to receive an invoice for work we had said we wanted completed during the walk through and before a bid was presented to us. Our understanding is that was baked in our quote. Furthermore, we are not happy with how we have not heard from Meir since they installed the last item. He has failed to return calls or arrange our final inspection. The bathrooms were finished a month ago. We had a few other projects that we were going to request his work on and now that tie is severed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to tile a shower?

The cost of tiling a shower depends on two main factors: the size of the shower and the quality of the tiles. In general, most professional tilers charge an average of $25 per square foot of tiled area and the national average cost for a tile installation project is $490-$750. The tiles themselves are the greatest variable; the cost depends on their size, shape, pattern and manufacturer. For example, tile purchased at a volume discount from a big-box store cost far less than tiles made in small batches by an artisan ceramics shop. Prices can range from as little as $1 to $50 or more per square foot of tile. Other factors that will drive up the total tile installation cost are grout and mortar, speciality tiles like bullnose caps or soap holders, and surface prep materials, especially if drywall needs to be replaced before the tile can be installed. Many tile installers will also remove and haul away any old materials from an existing shower installation.

How much does it cost to tile a bathroom?

Tile installation costs are a key part of your bathroom remodel costs. The tile you select (which can range from under $2 per square foot to $50 per square foot or more), the demolition and repair work required prior to installation, and the size of the job will all affect cost. You can install tile in the shower, on the counters, on the wall or on the floor. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Bathroom tile is easy to clean and durable for daily life. Here are some examples of average bathroom tile installation costs:

  • Tile installation at $25 per square foot of tiled bathroom area.
    • A standard tub and shower combo requires tiles for approximately 60 inches of length. Calculate wall height and add 30 to 36 inches of tub width for the walls at the head and foot of the tub. If the tile walls are 6 feet to 8 feet high, in this example, the tile installation costs would run about $2,000. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with an 8-foot ceiling: $1,450. Price includes materials.
  • Tile installation on a 3-foot by 5-foot regular tub and shower walls with a 10-foot ceiling: $1,650. Price includes materials.

How much does it cost to install a ceramic tile floor?

Tile installation costs for ceramic floors depend on the type of tile you select. You can purchase tile that sells for under $2 per square foot or tile that costs $50 per square foot — or more for artisanal and hand-painted tiles. The cost of labor to install a tile floor will also depend on the tile you select. It is far less labor-intensive to install a white 12-inch by 12-inch square tile than a 2-inch by 2-inch hexagonal tile with a distinct pattern. That extra time and energy equates to a higher per-square-foot installation cost. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for labor to install wood-look tile in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet. That same pro may charge $6 or more per square foot for a more intricate pattern, or a smaller space. Some installers may charge a minimum day rate for ceramic tile floor installation, such as $340 minimum per day, to cover business expenses and employee wages. If you’re looking to reduce costs, removing your existing flooring and handling any repairs needed can help eliminate prep work costs. Prep work may be charged per hour and could cost anywhere from $25 to $80 per hour or more, depending on the region and the type of repair work necessary.

How much does it cost to get tiling done?

You can install tiling on your floors, walls, counters, kitchen backsplash, outdoor patio and shower — to name a few places. Tile is beautiful, easy to clean, durable, and resilient against kids and pets. The national average for tile installation cost ranges between $490 and $750. Often, tile installation specialists quote a price per square foot for installation. Costs can increase if you want the pro to supply the tile instead of ordering it yourself. Other factors that can increase cost include specialized installation with a unique design that will require more labor to install.

Prep work will also affect tile installation costs. Demolition of the existing floor, counter or backsplash takes time and energy that will be reflected in the price. Necessary repairs, such as a sub-floor that needs bolstering before tile flooring can be installed, will also increase costs. For tile showers, one example of tile installation cost may be approximately $25 per square foot including all materials and labor. Average tile installation costs for backsplashes may run anywhere from $10 to $40, depending on the materials selected and the amount of labor required. The larger the area where tile is being installed, the lower the price per square foot will likely be. For example, a flooring pro may charge approximately $3.50 per square foot for wood-look tile installation in an area ranging between 6 feet by 24 feet and 8 feet by 48 feet.

How much does it cost to install tiles in a kitchen?

One of the most common kitchen upgrades is installing decorative backsplash tiles in the space between the counters and cabinets. It’s a chance for homeowners to get creative while also protecting the kitchen walls from splashes and stains. Like all tiling projects, kitchen tile project costs depend on the tiles you choose, installation materials such as grout and mortar, and any surface materials, like replacement backer board. The national average for a tiled kitchen backsplash is $490-$750. In general, pricing averages $10-$40 per square foot for installation, not including tile. Some professional tile installers have a minimum day rate for small projects, which averages $350.
