I have been a super satisfied customer of Desert Tech and Miguel since the early 1980s. I have a set of circumstances different from many of Miguel's Palm Springs area customers. I live in the Los Angeles area, a far cry from Cathedral City.
My most recent success story related to Desert Tech was the installation of an Ecobee3 thermostat on my HVAC (Dream System) Miguel and his crew installed in 2008. I was all prepared to install a Nest thermostat (purchased the Nest last December thru amazon.com). But, alas, I had never made the time to install it. The Nest sat, unopened, ready to be installed for almost 8 months. I called Miguel to see if he had a job going in the Los Angeles area and if I could "piggy back" on that job while he had a crew in the area, and have the crew install it for me.
Miguel told me he had a major job going in the dessert and would be booked for at least three weeks. But the best part of the story is that Miguel told me about the Ecobee3 thermostat. He advised me to see if I could return the Nest. Fortunately, because the Nest box was NEVER opened, the amazon.com vendor gracefully allowed me to return it with no restocking fee (kudos to a great company). Miguel told me to order the Ecobee3 and two additional sensors. He then offered to walk me thru the installation and setup of the Ecobee3 via telephone!
When the Ecobee3 arrived at my house, I called Miguel. As promised, he guided me through the entire process without a hitch. I was really glad I spoke with him because several of the settings he told me to input into the Ecobee3 were beyond my understanding of HVAC systems.
Here is the most amazing part, Miguel refused to bill me for his services! He said that after so many years of being a customer of his, it was the least he could do. It is true, I am a good customer. I had Miguel install a 2-1/2 ton rooftop HVAC unit on my first house in the 80s. He put in the "dream system" in my current house in 2008, which included a "CleanEffects" electronic air filtration system (solved a major allergy problem suffered by both my wife and daughter). In 2011, Miguel solved a problem I had been plagued with for several years with a room that had lots of electronics and computer servers in it. He set me up with a Fujitsu split-air system just for that room (man cave). It was the PERFECT solution.
Miguel and Dessert Tech have earned my full trust and complete loyalty! One last example of his dedication to great customer service is when my HVAC system would not run. Because I have some knowledge of electrical systems (I am not a HVAC guy), Miguel and I worked together on the phone and determined what component had failed. Miguel had the part drop shipped to me and I installed it with the help of his phone guidance. I was only down for one day because he had the part "Next Day" delivered to me. Amazing!
A last note, you can see my Yelp and other reviews and you will see I usually rate either 5 star or 1 star. This is because I don't take the time to write reviews for mediocre companies or mediocre service--I'll leave that to others. If you want a fantastic system installed by an extremely competent company and owner, look no further than Miguel and Dessert Tech. They have consistently survived the test of time. They have earned my business and my respect. They are truly great! I wish I could rate them twenty stars!
