We initially hired Raul for laying laminate floor in the downstairs of our home. As we observed his attn to detail, commitment to on time arrival and a long full day of work w virtually no break as well as a flawless result, we had him quote installation of vanities in 2 baths and painting/ installing baseboards. Prices were competitive and lower than some bids. Again, excellent work by Raul, including moving the switch plate to avoid having to cut a hole in granite backsplash! Another project we wanted was the addition of a mantle to our brick fireplace. We were disappointed to learn that a standard length was not an option. We recalled Raul's many very positive reviews for cabinetry work, so we asked him if he could maybe build a custom mantle...he worked at his home w his equipment and returned in a couple days w a beautiful mantle..just what we wanted!! We plan to use Raul for future projects and would recommend him without hesitation!! He is very talented and diverse in his abilities!

When he first came to give us an estimate, I was a bit hesitant of him because we wanted a decent job. We ended up hiring him and he was very impressive. He took his time to make sure all cracks are being sealed before painting the house. He was very responsive to my questions/concerns. He was very calm and professional from start to end. I would highly recommend him!

We hired Daniel for some work at my Mom's place. First, he was super responsive and resourceful. Second, he was great at communicating back and forth with us before we started the work. We needed a shower head installed, 3 doors fixed, and leaky faucet taken care of. Third, and most importantly, he showed up on time and got all the work done on time. When he was at the house, we was creative in finding solutions and at one point had to make a short run to the store - and he did it without complaining. He was also kind enough to setup a TV for my mom in her bedroom - which was not part of the project cost. Finally, Daniel actually followed up after the job to make sure everything was in order. OK - I have had all kinds of nightmare experiences with contractors so my expectations are very low to begin with. Working with someone like Daniel is such a breath of fresh air. I hope he is able to grow his business and hire people with his work ethic and customer focus! Thanks Ravi

I've had Lina's House Keeping service my home for almost 2 years. Everytime she comes over she always does a great job. She really pays attention to detail and really cleans everything. Not just a quick dusting. She's really nice and I trust leaving her in my home without me there. She also texts so it's easier to communicate something with her real quick when I'm in a rush. I've had House cleaners before that were cheaper but they didn't do that great of a job. You really get what you pay for here. I would recommend Lina's House Keeping to anyone who really loves a clean home.

Ian has been my go to handyman a few times now. He has done electrical, plumbing, and build me a variety of wooden things. If I ever need anything fixed or just inspected I know who to call. His prices are fair and his work is detailed. I have added a few pics of work he has done around my home.

First: Dennis was present everyday work was done; if he wasn't present all day, he got the workers started and checked in several times, as well as at the end of the day. Second: Dennis and his workers were careful to clean up any mess every day. Third: Dennis presented blueprints of what he planned to do, and discussed them with us. Fourth: when we were unable to find fixtures, Dennis went out of his way to assist us. Be sure you know how much storage you want, and clearly communicate that. My husband and I didn't communicate with one another very well, and I was surprised at the end. I freaked out, but was able to have Dennis replace one cabinet with a larger one. The cabinet Dennis removed is great for storage in our garage. Final assessment: my kitchen is far more than I'd ever dreamed of having: the cabinets are easy to keep clean, the quartz counters/backsplash are marvelous to work on/clean. As with any construction project, things don't always proceed perfectly. We traveled out-of-state for funerals; and there were holidays during which we were happy to have work suspended. In other words: Life happens. I regard Dennis as a reliable, ethical, and skilled contractor. We have just asked to discuss remodeling our master bath with him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
