I have a home in Huntington Beach that had an existing furnace and ductwork. I wanted to install AC utilizing the existing system. I consulted with several HVAC contractors and received quotes. Mina was the most knowledgeable of the group of contractors, provided the best suggestions, and also had a very competitive price. During the installation the ductwork turned out to be in poor condition. Mina replaced the ductwork and only charged me the cost of material and not the labor. For anyone who has done contracting this in unheard of. Change orders are often outrageously priced. Mina is an honest man who does good work and cares about satisfaction with the job. If you have the opportunity to use Mina I highly recommend him. The system has been installed and running for 1 month and all continues to work great. Thank you Mina.

David and Thomas Garcia were friendly, professional and punctual. They completed the residential furnace installation in less time than I estimated and did a thorough job explaining the operation of the new unit. Very happy with these two professionals!

David repaired the electrical that had shorted due to something from the original install. He does quick but very thorough work. He has much more to offer than just HVAC repair and I will definitely be using him again. I would highly recommend him to anyone that wants to work with a professional.

Subcooling is fantastic! Our thermostat had been hanging off the wall by a screw for I don't even know how long... years. I came across their $399 Nest thermostat promotion, called them and they were there the next morning. Very professional, kind and FAST. I also had them do a maintenance on my furnace so we are now "breathing easy".

Our A/C failed to turn on in middle of intense heatwave last week. Jessie at Harbor Electrical was highly recommended by a friend in real estate. After my text message for help, he managed to come by early morning the next day. After his inspection, fortunately, the problem was identified as faulty thermostat that was close to 30 years of age. Eventually, Jessie came by again on Labor day and installed our new smart thermostat which works great with the existing A/C and furnace. After installation, he spent extra time to check and clean the intake vent and the compressor unit to make the A/C run more efficiently. Jessie was highly professional and polite throughout the entire process, and he was very clear and upfront regarding the fees which for me was very reasonable, compared what an underqualified handyman would charge just for coming out. I thank my friend in referring me to Jessie, whom I would also like to highly recommend for all electrical needs around the house or at business.

Highly recommend Titan for any of your HVAC needs! Recently went through them to have my old/leaking ducts replaced. Price was reasonable and quality of work was superb! Very professional and polite. Had the job done in one day which included having asbestos removed in my attic (by another company they recommended and coordinated with). They kept there work area clean by wearing shoe covers and laying down a walkway. Initially I was planning to have my whole AC system replaced, but after noticing my attic was colder than my house while the AC was running, I knew I had a problem with the ducts. Ryan came over after setting up an in home consult. He went into my attic and took pictures of my leaking ducts and explained everything in detail. After replacing the ducts, my AC had been running amazing! I will definitely be going with Titan in the near future when it’s time to replace my furnace and outdoor unit!

We hired Rick to replace an old furnace and all the ducts inside the house. He is one of the most honest contractors that I have ever met, his quote was way below anyone else which at first got me a bit skeptic but once you talk to him and you see him working you realize that he is super professional. The difference between Rick and other contractors is that he cares about you as a client, he treats your house as if it was his and he trusts his work so much that he knows that you will refer him to your friends so he doesn't need to overcharge you like others (his quote was considerably less than the others I got), he even offered helping me on a Sunday with the water heater (he wasn't hired to do anything with the water heater). He passed the inspections with flying colors, the inspector even said that he didn't even need to check Rick's work because he knows that Rick is one of the best contractors out there. The worked that he performed in my house was absolutely flawless, him and his crew will not leave your house until they achieve absolute perfection on what they are doing, he sticks to his quote and he will not overcharge you even if they find surprises, which I well appreciate after overpaying for my new house. I have recommended Rick to all my friends and even my realtor ask him for his business card after seen his work, and I would recommend him to all of you out there thinking about your next project, for sure he will be back for my next projects.

Simply put he was HONEST and integrity goes a long way now a days with me and service. He had an opportunity to take advantage of me as I am not an AC specialist and would of took his word for any type of repair work. I might not be able to pay for it though right away LOL. But he did a fine estimate and decided all I needed was a cleaning and change out of my ceiling filters and spray out the dog hair from my outside unit. $120 dollars service call and basic maintenance and I had cold air again. Only issue we had was he didn’t have a certain key to open my valves that had covers or something on them...So George I”LoL remind you to get that key on your truck so I can call you out for a recharge of the #3 unit. Thank You for your great service. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Overall very good experience. Hector is very honest. Got a good feeling about the company and in speaking with him. Pricing very reasonable. Overall clean work. Very responsive company. We had 2 entire HVAC and furnace systems replaced. Unfortunately furnace had a technical glitch in the system within the first couple of days. As soon as they found out the problem, someone came out to fix it immediately. Now everything is running smoothly. You never know with any product, if something might go wrong or a part may be recslled...so it’s important to have a company that is very responsive and ready to fix any problems encountered. We felt that we were in good hands.

Vern came out on a Sunday and did not charge me extra. He tested my A/C , replacing part and repaired within 30 minutes. He checked my heating and replaced filter for no charge. He is the last of the breed who really cares about service. He even showed me pictures of his granddaughter. Do yourself a favor and call the man.

I had an issue with my A/C not generating enough cold air through out my 2,000sq ft home. Joe serviced our condensor & furnace at a reasonable price. I shopped around received some quotes, the quotes I got were higher by $150-$300 more. Joe was professional, explaind what he was going to do & also cleaned up after himself.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Who fixes furnaces?

If your furnace needs to be repaired, you’ll want to find a qualified heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) repair technician. Each state has its own licensing requirements; some require all HVAC technicians to have an HVAC license, while others only require someone operating an HVAC service and installation company with employees to hold a contractor’s license. For example, in Alabama, the Alabama Board of Heating Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration Contractors regulates licensing, while in Kansas there is no state regulatory body and HVAC licensing can vary by region. For simple furnace repairs like changing out a filter, a trusted handyman can probably handle the job, but a trained professional should be hired for tasks like replacing a gas valve, installing a new inducer fan motor or other critical furnace repair jobs that involve dealing with gas leaks or other dangerous conditions. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much will it cost me to replace my furnace?

The national average for furnace replacement is between $1,800 and $2,500. The cost can range dramatically higher depending on the model of furnace you select, any repair work you require, your location and the cost of installation. Furnace installation costs can be more than the furnace itself due to the cost of doing business and the expertise needed to install the HVAC equipment. Installing a new furnace generally requires technical know-how and the proper tools and licensing. It’s best to hire a pro and budget for furnace installation rather than risk potentially unsafe DIY installation. This will ensure your home’s safety. Check to see if your HVAC contractor has the proper licensing to do the job. If you need duct repair or replacement, expect to pay more for your furnace installation costs. The price for duct repair could be an hourly rate ranging on average anywhere from $85 to $150 per hour, with additional costs for parts.

How much does it cost to have your furnace cleaned?

To keep your furnace in good working order it’s important to have it regularly cleaned. The national average furnace cleaning cost ranges from $60 to $80, though prices can vary greatly based on where you live in the country and what your furnace maintenance includes. An HVAC company may have different rates for different levels of furnace maintenance. For example, one company may offer general furnace maintenance for $79 and advanced maintenance for $138. Another company may offer a 38-point maintenance check for $89 and a 64-point maintenance check for $178. According to Energy.gov, a standard furnace cleaning and maintenance visit can include:

  • Checking the vent connection pipe and chimney
  • Checking the physical integrity of the heat exchanger
  • Adjusting the controls to provide optimum air temperatures
  • Checking the combustion chamber for cracks
  • Testing for carbon monoxide (CO)
  • Adjusting the blower control and supply-air temperature
  • Cleaning and oiling the blower
  • Removing soot and corrosion from the furnace
  • Checking the fuel input and flame characteristics
  • Sealing the connections between the furnace and the main ducts

How much does it cost to replace a gas furnace?

The cost to replace your gas furnace will vary based on the type and size of furnace you select, labor and installation costs, and any repairs your HVAC system may need. Nationally, average HVAC prices for a heating specialist range between $1,800 and $2,500. It’s important to select the right size gas furnace for your heating needs. A furnace that’s too small won’t heat your house properly, while a furnace that’s too large will run inefficiently, cycling on and off and likely breaking down sooner. HVAC specialists calculate your exact heat needs by measuring your home and incorporating variables such as the regional climate and your home’s level of insulation. Retail pricing for gas furnaces can range from $650 up to $3,000 and more. The higher the AFUE (annual fuel utilization efficiency) rating of the furnace, the more efficient it is at turning fuel into heat and the lower your carbon footprint and utility bill will be. HVAC installation costs are often based on an hourly rate and can range from under $50 to over $100 per hour, depending on the company and the furnace being installed. Higher-end furnaces cost more to install because they require added labor and expertise. For a typical installation, it might take two HVAC installation pros one day or less to remove your old furnace and replace it with a new one.

How much does it cost to have your furnace serviced?

When your furnace isn’t regularly serviced it can operate less efficiently. This increases your energy bills and also prevents your furnace from keeping your home as warm as you like. Keep your furnace properly maintained with regular service. The national average furnace service cost is between $60 and $80. Companies may offer tuneup specials that cover all the necessary testing, tightening, measuring and cleaning to keep your equipment running at top efficiency. If you have a newer system, furnace service costs may be covered by your warranty. Outside of warranty, a basic tuneup might start at $58 and a more advanced maintenance cleaning could be over $120. Here are some signs your furnace may need service:

  • The furnace has stopped functioning entirely.
  • The temperature cannot be regulated.
  • Rooms in the home are either too hot or too cold.
  • The heated air coming from the furnace smells like gas.
  • The thermostat isn’t working.
  • Strange noises are coming from the furnace.
