I've lived in my home for 4 years and it's never had a professional cleaning. And I highly doubt that it had one before we moved in. I knew that whoever I hired was going to have their work cut out for them. After looking at reviews and comparing quotes, I found that Jiffy Maids really understood what we needed done. We hired 2 maids for 4 hours. They showed up on time on with the owner and we did a walk through. I pointed out the highest priority tasks and IF they had time, gave a list of other things that needed to be done. They worked simultaneously around the house and they completed every task!!! My bathroom and kitchen both shine! They did all the basic cleaning and by basic...I mean there were some really stuck on messes that they managed to get clean. Some of those included pet messes from our very sick doggie. Cupboards and walls were scrubbed well. Everything looks amazing!! We are so impressed that I've convinced my husband to have them come over on a monthly basis. I clean my house several times a week but this is not like basic cleaning. This service is so much better than I could ever do or find time for. And so affordable!

Jeremiah did a great job for us in building a stone wall on our patio. He took great care and time in choosing and placing the stones to achieve an excellent overall appearance. He had a genuine interest in producing an excellent finished product. Can't go wrong with him at the helm! I'd definitely contact him again for any future need and would recommend him to my best friends

On time, respectful & excellent work product. Clean up was like they were never there. If I had to find an error, there was some minor paint runs onto the walls. I wouldn't doubt that they would touch that up if I had some touch-up paint. Even did some things I didn't ask for.

Jamie did everything he said he would and more. He painted walls and baseboards pretty much flawlessly. He covered my hardwood floors and was very mindful about protecting my property. He was professional in his approach to the job and pleasant to deal with. I felt comfortable having him in my home. I checked his references before hiring and they were very positive . I will definitely call on him in the future for some handyman tasks that I have coming up. I gave him a 5 star rating.!

We had a rather complex kitchen cabinet replacement job that required keeping the face, drawer, door, slider shelf, and tiled countertop. Everything else was destroyed from water damage. Johnny was prompt in his contact to our Thumbtack query, had excellent follow-up, and follow-through. He determined what could be salvaged, and acquired the materials. When he removed the cabinet, we discovered additional water damage to the wall, arranged for repair and coordinated completion. His workmanship was excellent and his communication and professionalism was outstanding. I would highly recommend Johnny for any project you would need, especially if it requires attention to detail -- and as long as your project doesn't interfere with Johnny doing our next project in our new home!!!

We bought our first home and had to remove 30 years of wallpaper. Collins Painting cane in, removed the wallpaper, retextured the walls and painted. It turned out beautiful! It was done in a timely manner! Then 6 months later we had Collins Painting come back to paint our exterior. They have a Customer for life!

Bill was absolutely great! He did a fantastic job in a short amount of time! ( And I mean a really short amount of time). My place was wrecked from renters with holes in the walls and just totally ruined. Bill came in and fixed it all to make it look beautiful again. He installed laminate floors, a new bathroom, fixed holes in the walls, painted, placed smoke detectors, changed outlets, and the list goes on and on. He was my angel in this disaster. He's the best person you could ever hire! He's professional, clean, honest, and does a great job! I can't thank him enough! I have one picture of the floors that he placed just to show you how beautiful a job he does! It looks great now and I thank him immensely!!!!

Dan laid about 600 SF of 16" slate tile for us. He was prompt and reliable and had good energy. The job was very good quality except maybe a couple of picky things that I think his helper did. Only down side is he left a mess of thinset on exterior walls and I had to bag all the garbage. I really love a contractor who cleans up well. Otherwise, Dan is very good for tiling.

Ric Lua and his staff were a pleasure to work with and always responsive to our questions and comments. They prosecuted the work quickly and professionally (remodeled bathrooms, all new windows, scraped popcorn ceilings, all new floors , re-stuccoed house, painted exterior and total re-landscape and irrigation system of front and back yard). We were able to move our sister back into her house within one month which was very important as she was undergoing chemo treatments. We really liked that most of the work was done in-house by Ric's staff. Where he brought in subcontractors (windows/stucco and tile work) Lua managed them and they showed-up on time and completed work promptly.

I have been doing this kind of work in Palm Springs for most of the 45 years that I have lived here. I take pride in the outcome of every project and love to make you smile and not have to worry about the safety of your family!

As an ex-general contractor and full-time handyman, I am well-versed in all building and remodeling phases, from structural footings and retainers through case and base. Additionally, I have extensive painting and drywall experience, including texture match or smooth wall (as most homeowners request these days). I have all tools, obviously including trucks and trailer for materials or demo. I have found customers, overall, love my timely, unassuming project neatness and punctuality. My pricing is another plus. I am more than flexible and more than fair. I follow up all my jobs for years afterwards and maintain a fluid, responsible relationship with every single customer. I stand on the added details and always give way more than expected.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is the difference between sheetrock and drywall?

People sometimes use the terms “sheetrock” and “drywall” interchangeably, but they are not exactly the same. Drywall is the industry term for prefabricated sheets of wall, while Sheetrock is the brand name of a type of drywall. Depending on what room is being built, your drywall installation pro will select different thicknesses or grades of drywall. Standard residential drywall is ½-inch thick. Garage walls adjacent to a living space are typically ⅝-inch thick and serve as a firewall. For a garage ceiling, most contractors will use firewall-grade drywall materials to keep your home as safe as possible.

Different types of drywall can be color-coded to indicate their purpose. Purple or green drywall boards are often mold-resistant (MR) and are applied where moisture tends to accumulate, such as in bathrooms and basements or behind tile backsplashes at sinks. These mold-resistant sheets have a fiberglass instead of a paper facing finish to prevent water absorption. Regular drywall is gray or white. The drywall industry is constantly adapting with technology to provide safer and more targeted materials. You can even install soundproofing drywall to help prevent noise transfer through rooms.

How much will it cost to fix a hole in the wall?

If you have a hole in your wall, don’t despair; drywall repair professionals can patch the hole and repaint the surface and no one will be the wiser. The cost to repair a drywall hole depends on the size of the surface area of the damage, the materials and labor required, and (for a minor repair) any minimum service fee the repair company may charge. The actual labor and drywall prices may be lower than the minimum service fee, but pros must ensure their business overhead costs are met when they go out on minor jobs. To help keep costs low once the pros get there, make sure you have the right paint on hand if you want them to do to a touch up after the repair is complete, so you don’t keep them wait (and charging you for their time) while you search in the garage. Here are two examples of average prices for smaller drywall repair jobs:

    • Approximate cost to repair a 5-foot crack in a wall: $125 (labor $75 and materials $50).
    • Approximate cost to repair a 3-foot ceiling crack: $150.

How much does it cost to put up drywall?

The national average cost to hire a drywall installation professional ranges $375-$1,500, depending on the job at hand and where you are in the country. Your drywall installation cost will often be lower if the professional is installing the drywall in a new construction with open access as opposed to a remodel. The square footage of the job, the amount of materials, and the labor required also determine drywall prices. According to drywall pros, materials costs can range from 15 percent to 50 percent of your total project cost, depending on the work you’re having done. Request several quotes from drywall installation companies to find the right fit for your construction project. The quotes may be based on the company’s standard cost per square foot or a calculation of the time estimated to complete the job plus the size of the job plus materials and any travel fees. For example, drywall installation for one or two standard-size rooms could cost $900-$1,500. The cost to hang and tape an outbuilding with approximately 40 drywall sheets at 75 cents per square foot could total $1,450, including 3.75 days of labor for the drywall crew.

How much does it cost to repair drywall?

The national average price range to repair drywall is $210-$300. Drywall prices can vary greatly depending on the size of the hole or crack that needs repair, the amount of materials required, and other factors. Cracks can appear at the seams in your drywall due to uncontrollable factors like your house settling or even minor earthquakes. Drywall, although sturdy, will break with enough impact, so if a dresser falls and crashes into a wall or your have a mishap hammering in nails for artwork, you could need drywall repair. Drywall repair professionals may have a minimum service fee of $100-$150 regardless of the size of the job. This ensures that their business expenses are met anytime they send their crew out to a job. Here are some additional examples of average drywall repair prices:

    • Sand and texture five wall patches: $200 (45 minutes of labor and $40 of materials).
    • Repair a 4x8 section of wall: $225 (labor $150 and materials $75).
    • Replace drywall in an entire bedroom: $1,500 (price varies depending on the number of windows, whether there’s metal trim, etc.).
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
