"Man, where do I begin. Since day one Dante has always followed through on his promises. His words were, "in two weeks you will feel it, it four weeks you will see it, and in six weeks you will hear it!" When I heard someone tell me that I'd lost weight, that's when u knew I had invested in myself! I've been working out for years on my own, since I played football in high school actually. I know a lot, but Dante showed me a new world of fitness, and a whole new way of life in the gym. His workouts never repeat, and his exercises are his own. He's definitely a coach and a motivator. He pushes you! That's exactly what I needed. A push! I would never push myself the way he pushes me. I highly recommend him as you're coach."

"Do you Evan lift? Sorry, couldn't resist. But seriously, I was fortunate enough to win the silent auction for a personal training introductory package Evan had donated to a local school (a charitable fellow as well...), wondering what difference having a pro would make in improving my current routine's form and helping my goals. I was very upfront about being as-yet unsure about continuing with training due to cost, and Evan was wholly accommodating of that wish - checking my current routine, showing me areas I can correct my form and technique, and introducing new exercises to help me resolve some pains and issues I have been dealing with. He also showed me how I can do all of this with the equipment at my current gym, and by buying a few $10 pieces from Amazon to supplement for his training center's professional gear. All this, in only a handful of sessions. He even offered continuing support over email if I have any questions, and some other resources to browse to get additional insight and ideas. I could not recommend him more highly. A great guy to start with in the world of personal training, and I look forward to continuing with him as my goals develop."

"Jenene is excellent. She listened to me and modified exercises to make sure my needs were met. She asked the right questions and designed work out to help me achieve the results I was most interested in. She was very quick on responding and always confirmed her appointment day before. "I've worked with Justin from the Kula Team for personal training for the past six months. The dedication and passion he has for health and fitness is evident. From day one he works with you on a plan to achieve your goals. He incorporates fitness, diet and recovery into his plans to make sure you get results! He continually changes up the fitness routines to make sure your fitness levels keep improving. Each month we set a focus, a goal and reflect on the past month. Ive seen trainers in the past who very passively watch their clients. Justin is very involved making sure you have proper form and are being challenged. His feedback is effective and well-researched. When I had some issues with shoulder tightness I came in the next day and he was ready with some stretches and techniques to help target that! The Kula Team also has an amazing meal prep plan to get you started or to help you continue on the right path to health. Their bowls and snacks are tasty, varied and affordable! "I did lots of research on personal fitness trainers in the south bay area. I found Ron’s website, researched his training program and emailed him in regards to more information. He returned the email promptly and within the week we were meeting and discussing my goals and starting my training sessions the next week. Ron provides a complete package that is easy to follow yet aggressive to the goals that you are wanting. I have been with him for 9-weeks now and he has exceeded my expectations in a trainer. He is there by your side correcting your techniques; assist when needed but never lets you gives up. Each session he challenges you and provides positive reinforcements to keep you motivated. I am moving forward meeting my goals and Ron has helped provide me with that. Great trainer, very knowledgeable and a great mentor for getting yourself where you want to be physically and mentally. I would recommend him to anyone no matter what stage of fitness you are. He has set a great foundation for my future goal. Can’t thank him enough. "Ben is an outstanding massage therapist and personal trainer! I booked him for a deep tissue massage because I could barely move after all my 5k training. I'm not gonna lie, it was super painful but the next day I felt like a new man! He offered me a free training session at his private gym and I took him up on the offer - one of the best decisions I've ever made. He's super detail oriented and showed me a bunch of exercises to make my knees and hips more stable. I ran a mile without any pain for the first time in YEARS this morning and had to write a review! I'll definitely be training with him more frequently and can't recommend him enough. (And the gym is awesome, there's even a backyard training area!)"

"I've been swimming with Fana for over five years now and she's awesome! This isn't your standard drill and kill group. She works on stroke technique to help avoid injury and mixes up the strokes to keep the workouts interesting. As a result, my swim times are faster and I haven't missed workouts due to sore shoulders etc."

Is kickboxing hard?

Kickboxing is as intense a workout as you want it to be. As with any fitness regimen, the more effort you put in, the more results you will get. The type of kickboxing you do will determine how physically challenging it is. Combat or self-defense kickboxing, where you train in a martial arts studio with sandbags or spar against combat partners, can be an intense physical workout. Group kickboxing classes that use sandbags as part of the workout will also elevate the degree of intensity, because of the level of exertion punching and kicking the bag requires. Cardio kickboxing group fitness, which employ kicking and punching moves but no sandbags, has comparable intensity to jogging but works a wider range of muscles while increasing strength, flexibility and coordination. Here are some of the core kickboxing moves:

  • Cross: A straight punch that you throw slightly across your body, using your dominant hand.
  • Jab: A quick, straight, face punch. Usually thrown with the non-dominant hand.
  • Uppercut: A punch thrown up from the midsection (using either hand) that connects with the underside of your opponent’s chin.
  • Hook: A curved punch (using either hand) that connects with your competitor’s jaw or chin.
  • Side kick: A kick delivered when your competitor is at an angle to you. Raise your leg to the side, then bend at the knee to deliver the kick.
  • Front kick: A kick delivered straight on while you are facing your opponent.
  • Roundhouse kick: A kick delivered by swinging a leg up in a clockwise or counterclockwise motion (depending on which leg you’re using) with momentum to strike the opponent with the instep of the foot.

What should you wear to kickboxing?

What you wear to kickboxing can vary based on the setting. For kickboxing group fitness classes that are part of a gym’s cardio class schedule, standard fitness attire is appropriate. Athletic sneakers, pants or shorts that you can comfortably kick in without getting tangled or flashing anyone, and a top that allows for easy movement when punching and jabbing are all good choices. You won’t need protective gear or gloves, as most cardio-based kickboxing classes do not use punching bags.

Kickboxing training that takes place at a martial arts studio typically requires protective gear. You may need boxing gloves (beginners may want 12-ounce or heavier gloves for more cushioning) and hand wraps that protect and support your hands under the gloves while you punch the bag. If your kickboxing training includes sparring with opponents, you’ll need a mouthguard and any protective head and body gear your studio requires. Always be sure to bring plenty of water, too.

What is a boot camp class?

Fitness boot camps are a heart-pounding way to boost your fitness level. Boot camps are led by a fitness instructor and are based on the concept of military boot camps — intensive workout programs to get new recruits into shape, quickly. Fitness boot camps encourage camaraderie, and the group momentum helps participants get through fast-paced intervals of cardio, isometric training, strength training and endurance drills. Classes may range anywhere from 30 to 60 minutes, and usually meet multiple days per week. Boot camps often run a specific duration of time, say four to six weeks, which creates a team-like environment for class members. Other boot camps run year-round and students purchase package pricing for classes, similar to subscriptions that allow them a set amount of classes per week or per month.

Boot camps can be held indoors at a gym, outdoors in a park or on a beach, in a backyard — anywhere there’s room for running, jumping and sweating. Some instructors also provide DVD and online boot camps. You can also find boot camps tailored to your heart’s desire, such as bikini boot camp, or boot camps for new mothers. Boot camps offer an intense workout and are usually led by energetic instructors pushing you to do your best, but unlike military boot camp drill sergeants, fitness boot camp instructors typically don’t use intimidation or punishment to spur you on. Check with your doctor before starting a boot camp if you have health concerns, and always let your instructor know ahead of time if you have injuries.

What do you need for kickboxing?

What you need to bring to kickboxing depends on where you are working out and what your goals are. For a gym or fitness club’s cardio-based group kickboxing class that does not use punching bags, you generally need only appropriate workout gear and enough water. For kickboxers who are training in a martial arts studio, working one-on-one with a trainer toward a specific goal or sparring with competitors, you will need your own boxing gloves (12- to 16-ounce gloves provide more protection for beginners) and hand wraps (to protect and support your hands under the gloves, as well as keep them dry). How much is a boot camp?

Smaller towns and areas with a lower cost of living typically have lower rates for boot camp services than big cities and regions with a higher cost of living. If you’re paying per class on a drop-in basis, expect to pay anywhere from $12 to $25 or more, depending on the region and the instructor. When you purchase a package of classes, typically the more you buy at one time, the cheaper each class is.
