We were very happy working with Albert Benichou at DeNoise and would highly recommend his services. Our company was making its first YouTube videos and Albert met with us at our office and understood right away the kind and level of videos we were after, making good suggestions about general structure and backgrounds; and approaching things simply, not complicating what we wanted to do. He provided a detailed list of what his quote included. Albert worked quietly, calmly and very competently, along with his helpful assistant Sandra, and kept things flowing well during filming, working effectively with all the video participants. Sandra worked with us until all the text additions were correct; and the final videos had many very nice, professional touches that Albert included. Prior to filming, we sent copies of the scripts we had rehearsed to Albert and Sandra so they were completely prepared when they arrived; and the seven videos were produced in a timely manner, according to the schedule we agreed on. We will be calling on Albert, Sandra, and DeNoise for our next round of YouTube videos.

All i can say is we were very satisfied with the way Sybex Studio captured our wedding memories. They are very professional and we hardly noticed Ruben filming at all. We asked Ruben to film without intruding and he did it very well while still making sure everything was filmed. We can't thank you enough!

Ilja was great! Prompt, professional, efficient and had fantastic ideas on the fly during filming. We've already hired him for a second shoot. Did both indoor and outdoor work, and he was able to get great shots of our mobile app, while also catching the important main action.

I hired Nicholas to film my Hindu wedding on a Sunday morning at Livermore two months ago. He was punctual and professional, ready with all his equipment in tow. Since there's no rehearsal for a Hindu wedding, I myself wasn't sure where he needs to stand or even go, but Nicholas was able to figure it out once in the event hall. After two weeks, we received the hard drive that held all the raw, unedited footage which is what I wanted and downloaded it onto our external drive. This took awhile for my husband and I to do, but Nicholas was extremely patient with us and reassured me it was okay to take our time. Once every clip was downloaded, my husband and I watched the unedited footage and relived our wedding day through Nicholas' eyes and filming, and it brings tears to our eyes to see the close-up of our expressions, the traditional clothing we wore, and marriage items on the stage. Nicholas also surprised us with still photos of our day even if he wasn't our paid photographer. In addition, the email and texting communication between Nicholas from start to end was prompt, and he was enthusiastic about filming his first Hindu wedding. I am also grateful that Nicholas worked within our budget and stayed the entire day from 9-2pm; he works for the passion of filming, and the money is secondary and I appreciated that commitment. He simply wants everything to be perfect for the bride and groom, and stress-free which it was. I would highly recommend future customers to hire Nicholas to film their special milestones in their lives.

I hired Mark at Bicycle Ice Cream Films SF to create a video of my doctoral dissertation defense which was held on October 10, 2016. The audience included my dissertation committee members, fellow academic colleagues, and many friends and family members, about 25 guests in all. Working with Mark was a wonderful experience -- he is a true professional in both his craft as well as in how he works with clients. Mark is a proactive communicator, and we were able to do most of our planning via email and text which was great for me as I was preoccupied with preparing my defense presentation. Part of the planning included conducting a site visit of the classroom in which my defense was to be held, so that Mark could assess equipment needs and determine lighting and camera placement in advance. The site visit helped us prepare as we knew that there would be a class in session in the room on the day of my defense and we would not be able to gain access to the room to set up equipment until just 15 minutes prior. So Mark needed to be able to get in, get set up, and be ready to go in a very short period of time. He suggested, and I agreed, to bring in an assistant to help with this operation, at a very reasonable rate. This was factored into his final bid to me which was very reasonable for the work and time involved. On the day of the defense, Mark and his assistant arrived early, staged the equipment in the hall, and once we were able to enter the room, quickly got to work setting it all up. They had it all under control so I could focus on getting my projection equipment set up and my nerves settled before my presentation. Mark was unobtrusive in his filming, and he produced a good highlight reel that captured the essentials of my talk. He took still photos of the event as well, including the champagne reception after the defense after I was declared "Dr. Bauer". The event turned into a joyful celebration and Mark beautifully captured the spirit and the mood of everyone there on this important day. I was happy with all the material Mark produced and I plan to engage him to refine the video footage to create some compelling video material for my professional website. In short, I would like to highly recommend Mark P/Bicycle Ice Cream Films SF for professional/business or documentary production needs.

Keida filmed my save the date video as well as my wedding. Both times he was professional and friendly, he made everything easy. I feel like he got a great, quick understanding of who my husband and I are and made sure to capture that in each of the videos. I can't imagine anyone better to work with.

Sean of Kurtela Video Productions was great to work with for our May 18 wedding. Before the big day, I talked to Sean about what we were looking for and the type of shots we wanted; he listened, asked great questions, offered wonderful advice, and really got a feel for us as a couple. I felt really comfortable with him from the start. On the wedding day, he showed up on time and set-up really quickly. He captured so many wonderful memories that we didn't even know he was there for. He was very professional and accomodating. I was running late on make-up and asked him to come back a little later because I wanted my eye make-up to be done. He was quick to offer filming the groomsmen then and coming back. And he came back right on time! And the groomsmen were so happy to get the extra time with them in their sunglasses. He worked well with our photographer as well, which was extremely important to us. And captured unbelievable shots! The best part was that he got our trailer to us so fast that he beat the site coordinator from posting photos on Facebook! That is how quick he was. We received our final video way before his due date too. If you have the opportunity to hire Sean as your videographer for your special occasion, I would recommend him completely.

Work on the video project itself hasn't started, but Stanford had a lot of red tape to go through before approving him for filming next week, and he was very prompt and thorough and cooperative. I also wrote to thank the other bidders for their quotes, and told them I had decided to go with another company. Best, John

Rand was a pro throughout the project, and was able to produce great quality work with very little direction. I gave him general ideas of what we wanted, and he did the rest. Which worked perfectly for our resource limited team. Great filming, nice final video demo reel and speaker recordings. I would use him again.

I brought Nick on for two projects as a behind the scenes photographer - first for a short narrative film set in the 1950s and second for a dystopic music video featuring an emerging soulful R&B artist. Nick was communicative and asked thorough questions about our shotlist and the aesthetic of images we wanted to have captured. He is flexible, extremely talented with a great eye for candid and honest shots and was able to provide excellent coverage for our multiple day productions. I would without hesitation recommend Nick for set portraiture, especially if you are looking for someone who can be a fly on the wall, totally non-intrusive and quick and light on his feet, with instinct for getting what you need.

Shaun helped us film and photograph a new litter of service puppies (from Hawaii FIDO) for a news segment on Hawaii News Now. We weren't exactly sure what type of footage we were looking for and Shaun really helped by guiding and directing us through production. It also helps that he has a bunch of different equipment including a drone so that you can get unique and awesome footage for whatever subject. I really appreciated his energy and enthusiasm. We will definitely be hiring him for future projects including an upcoming puppy headshot photoshoot. What a fun time!

Dennis and Tanner went above and beyond in producing a short video for my company. Despite my vague direction and general lack of planning, they turned around a video in less than 24 hours that totally surpassed my expectations. I couldn't be happier with the outcome or the process. Looking forward to working with Brand New Films again!

Being able to reflect back on the day that we committed our love to each other has been absolutely incredible thanks to you guys. We are stunned by the amount of thought that went into making sure that we would forever be able to remember all of the best parts of our wedding. There are things that we forgot even happened or reactions of loved ones that we didn’t get to witness in person, but thanks to Angel’s team we were able to watch them through the film. Go with them. The best video team in the area!

Clifton did a wonderful job filming our wedding ceremony, but even more wonderful setting up live streaming of the ceremony so that our family internationally could attend the ceremony. He was very responsive when concerns came up along the way and even after the wedding in getting us additional live stream info. Re-watching the ceremony he recorded, the wind did make it a bit hard to hear, however the filming itself was great. What Clifton did for us was invaluable. Thank you for all your work before, during and after the wedding ceremony!

We only had about a month to get a company overview video done in time for a conference we were exhibiting at that we wanted to premier the video during. So we desperately needed a good professional video production company to film at all four of our company's facilities located across the US as well as the UK and meet all of our demanding needs. Beverly Boy Productions did an awesome job getting this done for us in such a short amount of time, and really brought our story to life. They worked around the clock for us, and exceeded all our expectations. The producer we worked with from BBP, Jonathan Saldebar, was fantastic! He did an excellent job of managing this project, communicating with us throughout the entire process, and conveying our story line to his team. Everyone we worked with from Beverly Boy Productions was very professional. We really couldn't have pulled this off without them. Our employees, customers, industry colleagues, families, and friends have all been very impressed by this video. It has already paid for itself with the awesome publicity it has brought us, and we are excited to continue sharing the video over the next few years.

Hands down one of ( if not the best) production team I've ever worked with. Worked with them on numerous projects as a extra to being the main feature. Their dilegent work ethic provides room for good communication on what needs to be. Adding on they are also highly organized with their time management skills , making each time we collaborated a smooth and enjoyable experience. Not to mention each of team members were extremely friendly and warm souls creating a comfortable and friendly work space. As a creative I would definetly recommend parallel films to anyone SERIOUS about pursuing their career. I feel they resource able to progress anyone willing to put in the work reciprocated.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
