I went to see Shawna following an impact injury to the top of my left foot at my local gym which was in significant pain. I found her to be sensitive and caring in her medical approach. Her needling technique was imperceptible in most cases, and very comfortable overall. I was also happy to get an appointment shortly after contacting her. I found my experience with Shawna to be professional, calm, and effective. My discomfort was reduced noticeably the first evening, and 99% of the pain was gone in two days. The clinic location was clean and convenient with parking, and an easy stop to or from work close to major transportation. I would recommend Shawna to anyone considering acupuncture and/or moxa for treatment of their health issues.

Ive sprained my ankle many times before, but never had such a quick recovery. David, who is my neighbor, brought me a Chinese herbal poultice and packed it over the egg- sized ankle. By morning it was merely swollen and he applied it again along with three acupuncture needles. The pain went away quickly and I stayed off it as much as I could. A month later youd never know it happened.

I am a California state licensed acupuncturist and certified massage therapist who specializes in treating stress, anxiety, and painful conditions using traditional Chinese medicine (TCM). The TCM modalities I use include acupuncture, tui na therapeutic bodywork, cupping, moxibustion, and Chinese herbal medicine. Chinese medicine can be used to prevent problems, not just correct them. By keeping the body's energy in balance, health is maintained. This is true not only for physical fitness, but for mental and emotional health as well. I am also a practitioner and teacher of Filipino martial arts and Jeet Kune Do/MMA concepts, and as both an L.Ac. and CMT, I am especially qualified to understand and treat musculoskeletal pain issues that can arise from injury or years of use.

I had the fortune of meeting Joe three years ago and at the time I had some high expectations for my overall fitness growth. Joe ended up becoming my one stop shop due to his immense knowledge in wellness and fitness. Some areas I have used Joe's expertise - Strength, flexibility, nutrition and therapy. Joe incorporates all these elements into his teaching and he makes it pretty simple. For my personal growth I have used his guidance with gymnastic style body weight and Kettlebells. What I truly appreciate the most is attention to form and injury prevention. Of course, along the way I have had my share of injurys and have sought Joe for therapy and acupuncture!! I have never done acupuncture before and Joe has made me a believer. I'm grateful for his guidance and as I head into my 40's I can say I'm stronger and healthier overall than ever before in my life.
Lamorinda Acupuncture and Healing Arts (LHA) is an integrative traditional Chinese medicine clinic offering effective and safe treatment of a broad range of chronic and acute medical issues. Our specialty is in the use of traditional Chinese medical techniques, such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, dietary therapies, tui na massage, and the integration of other modalities to form a holistic approach to treatment, in addition to being well versed in Western medical modalities. As acupuncture and Chinese medicine become more mainstream and less of a fringe medical option, the number of practitioners for you to choose from also increases. There are now over 12,000 licensed acupuncturists in the United States, with the greatest concentration right here in the Bay Area. As a potential patient, how do you choose the practitioner who's right for you? Here at Lamorinda Healing Arts, we believe that your relationship with your practitioner is every bit as important to the healing process as your practitioner's skill with his or her modality of choice. You may go to several different acupuncturists who employ the same techniques, perhaps even use the same points, but with one you experience a much greater improvement than with others. Why is this? Our experience in practice tells us that, beyond technique, point selection or even the placebo effect, a patient's ability to feel comforted, heard, and understood by his or her practitioner, "good rapport", is essential to a positive outcome. We pride ourselves on taking the time necessary to hear you out, to really connect person-to-person, and tailor our treatment to your individual needs. Philosophically, we're a little bit unlike the other clinics you have previously been to, for acupuncture or otherwise. We expect you to be curious, take an active role in your treatment, and do some assignment. We are expecting for results and quickly. We'll be happy to refer you to someone whom we believe is more equipped to do so if we don't get them. In that vein, we also believe that no healing approach is superior to any other; each is suitable to a given degree and for a given situation. We are glad to work with you, together with your other practitioners, to find the correct mix of treatment options to meet your specific needs. We work extensively with other medical doctors, acupuncturists, physical therapists, chiropractors, massage therapists, craniosacral workers, and others who may complement what we do. Most of those currently practicing Chinese medicine were trained in what we like to call "communist Chinese medicine", the standards developed by the current government of mainland China. While we were trained and tested in these methods as well, we are primarily informed by precommunist styles of practice learned through our mentors and the continuing education we received from them. We see medicine as an art as much as a science, as a sociological experience as much as a scientific one. As such, the concept of a medical "practice" is quite a literal interpretation of what we do. Every interaction, every view of a given condition is a unique opportunity not only for you to learn about the wisdom of traditional Chinese medicine but also for us to learn about your uniqueness in the context of your reasons for seeing us. Because to us, a medical practice is every bit as much a meditation on being human as it is a chance for healing and change.
