I've worked with Kate on multiple occasions and she is always professional, kind, and fun. She always takes my input and ideas as well telling me what she thinks works best. Kate's pictures always turn out beautifully and I hope to book her for a photo shoot again in the future!

Kandice is excellent. She is extremely professional, highly talented and has the wonderful ability to teach in a manner that you "get" the material. More impressive are Kandice's writing abilities. Whether her work is for social media or scripts for production, I've found her writing to be very expressive, delivering the "message" in the manner we wanted.

I know Patricia is a great life coach, among her many other talents. She was editing a book for a family member and jumped right in and gave me so much perspective about my own life that it was almost eerie -- I had been seeing my therapist for a long time but Patricia jumped to the heart of things immediately and mapped out a course of action. It's plain and simple, Patricia is a genius!

Cindy was ideal to work with producing the cover of my new novel. She listened, and responded to my needs, and was open to ideas that I had about the "look" I was going for. She is professional and very talented. It was a great experience for me and I got the book cover I wanted.

Dina was a writer/editor at my publication for over 5 years and she is nothing short of incredible. She has such a knack for taking whatever garbage someone spits out and turning it into a masterpiece. She speaks for you so well, you believe that was really you! That is a disadvantage for her, because she should have full credit for her talent. She is also one of the kindest, most patient and helpful people I have ever worked with. Absolutely Gold-Star.

As a former board member of the Los Angeles City Historical Society, I proposed Ann Sklar for Editor of the quarterly newsletter. Over the past couple of years she has not only enlisted excellent design and production assistance but has written many feature stories herself and has gotten other highly-qualified, credentialed authors to review books and write features. She has always brought the newsletter in on time. She has also done an amazing job of cataloguing historical photos that are on the LACHS website, for which she has written captions.

Darrin McAfee, Managing Partner - Circus Road Films: "I have had the pleasure to work with Robert on many video and audience driving projects and he is as good as they get. Robert's editing and production work helped us put out some of the most watched and highly rated stand up comedy specials of the past decade while at Levity Entertainment Group. He has also helped me on numerous audience driving digital projects that have led to literally millions of online views. HIs work ethic is stellar. The work quality is always amazing. Robert is also an amazing guy on a personal level. Easy to communicate with and once a project assignment is laid out, just turn him loose! I can't recommend him highly enough." James Markham Hall Jr, Co Founder - Gold Creek VR "Robert Dahlem is an absolute DREAM! He elevates every project he comes in contact with making it 1000 TIMES BETTER! His brilliant artistry combined with a supreme command of technology make him THE GO TO GUY for ANY PROJECT, EVERY TIME. Or at least when he's AVAILABLE to do it!" Tyler Weitz, Design Manager - BlackLine: "If you're looking for creative work, Robert Dahlem is your guy. I had the pleasure to work alongside Robert, and from personal experience, I can confidently say that he is a VFX rockstar; Robert has the rare ability to swiftly spark ideas and execute with aplomb. While Robert has the skills to be a one man team, he also works excellently in a team environment and elevates everyone to the professionalism he carries. If my words aren't enough, I'm positive that the quality and volume of Robert's work will speak for itself." Bryan Ferguson, Administrator - Disney ABC Television Group: "It can be difficult to sort through a creative process or stand out in an industry that presents creative people with increasingly demanding and indecisive choices. In order to succeed, one must often pair their talents with a character that is adept and skilled enough to navigate through the up and downs of our industry. In my opinion, Rob is a competent and skilled representation of that type of individual. We met while working on the production of several Comedy Central stand-up comedy specials. Early on in his tenure, he came into our extremely successful production company and demonstrated an instinctive ability to comprehend the goals and intentions of producers. He consistently created and published copy that was illustrative of the tone and direction recommended for each project. His character is an example of a person who is open to criticism, while also backing his efforts up with invaluable alternatives to consider. He is extremely proficient with a host of digital media tools and applications. And, his creativity, uniqueness, and technical skills would be an asset for a number of organizations. Though our industry has taken us on different paths over the years, I continue to stay in touch with Rob because I continue to be excited to witness the good work he demonstrates. His efforts and work ethic seems to always pay off. And, his successes continuously appear to be well deserved."

I've worked with Celeste for over a decade in the Publishing Industry (Magazines -- we had up to 6 different titles that all had to be completed, most on a monthly-basis), and deadlines don't wait/care. My point is that she did a magnificent job at A.) Keeping all the editorial AND advertising staff on their-toes to make sure that they (we) met our deadlines! B.) Then putting all of these pieces (stories/editorial + ads, both in-house and paid-ad-space) together to still get the whole-package TO the printer on time! She's very knowledgable on all things related to graphic-design, and her people/staff/management-skills are top notch as well. In my capacity as Advertising Director with Rock&Gem Magazine, I worked with Celeste for over a dozen years. She was great in interpreting advertiser’s objectives and her design work was excellent. Celeste always went the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction.

Shaula is a professional and highly competent editor. I send everything I write to her, be it chapters of my novel, posts to my blog and even sometimes verbose emails. Her attention to detail is astounding and she not only proofreads exceptionally well, she also focuses on content and readability. She poses questions and comments on the things that work and the things that don't. Having a vast knowledge of literature and books, this makes her an excellent source to also bounce ideas of of, if one is worried about flow or plot problems. She can think it through and give her feedback. Shaula is more than just a proofreader, she's an editor. And she's the best one I've ever used!

Brett helped me to edit my first poetry book. With her insight I was able to create an actual structure to my series of poems, to create a path that I could use to actually tell a story and make my work more than just a collection of writing. Not only did it help me with that book, but it also opened my eye to how I might look at things so that, moving forward, I could expand my thinking with regards to poetry collections.

I am a writer myself, but I edit books / literary projects for new, aspiring writers and businesses. My latest project was Summoning the Darkness, by Christopher Scott. I only work with hard copy, and I don't travel. Having written eight full length novels and a two-book historical series that is published, I have twenty years experience as an editor. I have traveled extensively in Europe, so I particularly enjoy editing books, essays, and documentaries with those settings. I also love anything to do with nature. Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you hire a good grant writer?

Grants are available to nonprofit organizations, for-profit businesses that qualify for government grants, and individuals who qualify for foundation or government grants. Hiring a good grant writer can help you gain funding in your chosen field. According to the American Grant Writers’ Association, grant writers can help you research potential grant opportunities; write grant proposals, create budgets, and build budget narratives; review written materials before you submit; prepare a business plan; analyze your organization for grant competitive qualities; prepare research grants; help with 501(c)(3) applications for nonprofits; and more. Investing in the right grant writer could result in a financial win for your organization. Generally no licenses or certificates are required to be a good grant writer, but you may want to find a grant writer who has been certified (not just received a certificate of completion) by a reputable organization such as the Grant Professionals Certification Institute. Qualities to look for in a good grant writer include:

            • Proven success writing winning grants, especially in your target area.
            • Strong writing skills.
            • Strong math skills and demonstrated proficiency with budgeting.
            • Careful attention to detail — brilliant grant proposals may be rejected just for formatting errors, so you want someone who follows instructions explicitly.
            • Expertise in your target area.
            • Punctuality and good communication skills.

How much does a grant writer cost?

Hiring a grant writer can give you a competitive edge when applying for financial grants for your business or nonprofit organization, or as an individual. The cost to hire a grant writer can vary depending on their academic background, areas of expertise, previous grant writing success and years of experience. According to the Grant Professionals Association, grant writers should be paid hourly or by flat fee. It is unethical for a grant writer to accept a commission or percentage compensation of grant monies received. They can, however, be awarded bonuses in line with the hiring company’s prevailing practices. Here are some examples of average grant writing fees:

            • Hourly rate for grant writers with less experience or fewer grants awarded: $25-$35 per hour.
            • Hourly rate for grant writers with some degree of success: $35-$75 per hour.
            • Hourly rate for grant writers with proven success winning large grants: $75-$150 or more per hour.
            • For a smaller grant, the writer may charge a flat fee of $200-$500 for preparation and submission.

Pricing may also vary based on the complexity of the grant application. A federal grant that requires pages of research, budgets and a business plan may take more than 30 hours to prepare. For a high-level grant writer who charges $100 per hour, this means $3,000 or more in grant writing fees.

Most grant writers will provide you with a total cost estimate before agreeing to the work. You may be required to pay a deposit up front, or the grant writer may work from a retainer. Often, seasoned grant writers pay for themselves in the long run by writing successful grants.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
