EDIT: After posting my review, Roger contact me and offered me a partial refund & explanation. While it doesn't change the day of, it was very professional and I appreciate him making the effort. We hired Roger from Big Mann's BBQ to cater our wedding this past June. The food was good and his pricing was the most reasonable we could find. According to our coordinator, he was late, but he says he was on time so I am not too sure as I wasn't present. He was supposed to bring two bartenders, but only had one and the bartender did not know what he was doing. Due to the lack of staff, the line for the bar was so long my father-in-law and brother-in-law had to step in to help serve and had to show the bartender how to make the drinks. The bartender he brought also did not use any of the wine glasses, therefore wasting the money we used to rent them and he used the wrong glasses which caused us to run out. As for his vegetarian option, ended up just being a piece of seasoned raw cauliflower, not sure what happened with that? I confirmed with all of my vegetarian friends that they indeed just received a piece of raw cauliflower. There wasn't enough serving staff-The buffet was not replenished frequently and two full tables of people did not get any salad. But the food was good and many people complimented the mac n cheese and Roger's professionalism after definitely earned him a better review. :)Jul 12, 2018Verified

Big Mann BBQ did an excellent job catering our daughter's 8th birthday party! Roger was responsive and easy to communicate with. He and his team showed up on time with their cool BBQ rig, then flawlessly prepared and served a delicious meal while happily interacting with the guests. Everyone loved the food and the service! Overall they delivered a quality product for a reasonable price. I would definitely recommend hiring Big Mann BBQ and look forward to working with them again. Roger and his team did an extraordinary job with the food and service. Roger was totally attentive to all the details we wanted in preparation for our big day. Our wedding reception was special. All of this in spite of an unexpected crisis of Big Mann BBQ's special trailer being damaged in a traffic accident that morning. Roger overcame it and pulled it off. We hired Roger for our company BBQ at a ranch in Santa Paula. This atmosphere was PERFECT for Roger's food. He brought his grilling rig - which the team was very impressed by! The meal was DELICIOUS - everything from the garden salad, to the tri tip, to the hot cheetos mac n cheese, smores bites - it was seriously amazing. - What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?Pricing for an event can be tricky based on what the customer is looking for and their budget. I have found that it is best to talk with a caterer that you feel a connection with to really nail down the appropriate pricing for your gathering.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?The process varies based on the customer and their needs. Some folks are very detail oriented and so they want to discuss and cover every aspect of the catering for their event, some folks are more relaxed and trust that it will all work out. My role in that relationship is to be responsible and responsive to there concerns and then perform as a professional and get the job done to the best of my ability.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I have been cooking for people since my college days, that's how I paid for college. I really enjoy giving people a great meal, it is a way of being connected. I also enjoy the aspect of sharing those special times in people's lives and being a part of that celebration. My first gig as a caterer was a celebration of life for a young girl who had a hiking accident. It was a celebration filled with tears and laughter and singing and memories, but it was such an honor to be included in that very touching and intimate gathering. I try to approach every event that way.
