"Let me preface my review with, i openly requested a lot of work. I requested a deep cleaning and organizing and laundry. I asked several times if this was something they could accommodate they assured me it was. I have a three bedroom two bathroom apartment, tons of laundry that needed to be folded or hung up and a couple loads that needed to be washed and dried still. The quoted price was $325.00. When she and her husband got here I recognized I have hired her before, also my sister uses her services regularly. There was some familiarity. She got here on time, got right to work tackling 6 loads of clean laundry and sorting laundry still needing to be washed. I left for a bit, came back shed gotten my closet looking decent already! The husband was working on the bathrooms, awesome. I went to the grocery store so I could put stuff in the crock pot and stay out of their way, she said I needed more hangers, so I got some. Still a good day. I noticed the husband working on my daughters room, so they are very fast paced. Now here’s where I started having a problem, I noticed the room looked like my 7 year old had cleaned it. Things were still stuffed in the corners the toy box still had clothes in it, the dolls were still tossed about, under the bed still had water bottles. I figured maybe he does a clean up and she does the deep clean. I went back to work. A couple hours later I go back home to check in they are working in the kitchen and when I asked how things were going they replied just gotta finish up on here and we are done. I walked back to my daughters room and surely no one had done anything else in there. I walked to my sons room and it was the same half way rushed feeling. It was cleaner than it was when they got there, simply bc the bed was made and laundry was put away, but there was no deep cleaning done. There was no organizing, the baseboards went even cleaned. I pointed out a few things, like there still being egg on the dining room table, how I had requested organizing and clean, how the bathroom was not adequately cleaned. To their credit they did try to go over some areas, but honestly it would have taken them 5-7 more hours to actually clean how I was expecting. So after my concerns I asked so how much, since I made clear the job was not done I expected a response lower than the quote. She justified still charging me the $325.00 because it was a lot of laundry. They got to my apartment at 8am left at three. Overall if I was looking for a quick “company” clean the job done is good. But if you are looking for a deep cleaning I’d think twice or request an hourly price, i feel like paying a cleaner $46.00 an hour is excessive especially if they leave and it feels like the work is unfinished. She told me I was hard to please and she’s never experienced having a customer unhappy. I would say anyone paying a cleaning service has their reasons and if you can not meet the needs fully expressed before you take the job, then do not take the job. Found after she left, my oven was not cleaned, the stove top yes not my oven. I will not use her service again."

"Kelli is very knowledgeable, professional, prompt and energetic. She took much time on the details for my home. Her first time "Deep Cleaning" fee seemed a little pricey at first, but I was not disappointed. My house sparkled from top to bottom when her and AJ were finished. If I needed any extras done I just jotted them down on a Post-It note and they were done. If you have housekeeping needs like I do, giver her a try, you won't be disappointed. They have made my life much easier."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is upholstery cleaning?

From your carpets to your drapes to your furniture, all fabrics need to be cleaned. Cleaning upholstery, or the fabric on your furniture, removes the dirt and oils that are transferred to couches and chairs through regular use. Because furniture upholstery can be delicate and colors can fade easily, it’s often a good idea to let professional sofa cleaners handle the job. They’ll determine the type of fabric — usually cotton, linen, wool, suede or microfiber — and the appropriate method for cleaning it, either steam-cleaning or applying a dry-cleaning solvent. In general, cleaning an entire piece of furniture includes a pretreatment, cleaning, and neutralizing rinse to the body, plus removing and cleaning all cushions and cleaning all crevices.

An upholstery cleaner may clean the entire piece of furniture, on a regular schedule or by request, or do spot treatments to remove pet, food, drink, or oil and grease stains. Furniture can also be deodorized to remove the smell of pets or tobacco smoke. Furniture that’s used often, like that in your family room, should be cleaned once a year to keep it fresh and extend its life. Sofa cleaners often also offer repair services to mend tears in fabric or patch holes in leather.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much do you pay for house cleaning?

Hiring a professional house cleaning service is a helpful way to have a healthy home even when your work and personal schedule is packed. House cleaning prices vary based on how many square feet your home is, how dirty your house gets, and how often the cleaning service comes. Some companies charge a set amount — such as 5 cents — per square foot, with a minimum amount, such as $100. The national average cost for house cleaning ranges between $110 and $150. Prices can be lower in areas with a lower cost of living, higher in big cities or affluent regions. You may save money by increasing the frequency of your house cleaning visits. Often a company will charge you less per cleaning when you schedule more cleanings per month. The cost advantage rewards your loyalty, and also reflects the fact that more frequent cleanings make it easier to maintain a high level of cleanliness in your home. A housecleaning service may charge more for the first visit or for one-time services than for recurring cleanings.

How much does it cost to deep clean a house?

Deep cleaning a house goes beyond the surface level to clear out the dust, grime and gunk that’s collecting on the fan blades, hiding in the blinds, and built up inside the refrigerator drawers. Deep cleaning of a home or apartment costs more than regular house cleaning because it takes more time, effort, and cleaning products. You may choose to have a deep cleaning once or several times a year in addition to your standard cleaning services. You may have a one-time deep cleaning to prepare for company or to clean after a house party. Companies may charge an hourly rate or a price per square foot, or may offer you a flat rate after they have visited your home and estimated work time. The national average house cleaning price is $110-$150, with rates ranging higher for deep-cleaning services. Here are some examples of how a company may calculate their deep-cleaning prices:

  • 10 cents per square foot (compared with 5 cents per square foot for standard house cleaning).
  • $300 for a 3,000-square-foot home.
  • $25 per hour per worker for deep-cleaning services.
