I have received several lessons from Paul at my location. I have not played music for many years and bringing music back into my life. He is a passionate teacher, professional, punctual, flexible, and responsible. The price of the lesson is reasonable. He cares about me being his student and spends time to find the right pick for my playing. He also met me at Sam Ash to help me purchase a new guitar and that was very helpful, now I enjoy it even more so. Overall, I reccomend Paul as a guitar teacher.

First of all, Steve is a very competent, formally-trained musician. He knows his theory, tonal harmony, scale modes, everything you could want to turn yourself into a more complete musician on the deepest levels. On the more practical side, Stephen wants to teach you what you want to learn. Whether it's rock, jazz or anything in between, Stephen is well-rounded enough play and to speak competently about it all. Great guy. Very happy with my lessons.

Paul is absolutely amazing. He's a great teacher and a great person. He individualizes every lesson for every person. He has fun and truly enjoys playing and teaching. I've only been taking lessons for a few months and the difference is incredible. Is never picked up a guitar when I started and now I'm (almost) playing bar chords and finger picking with confidence. I can't imagine the amount of one he's spent listening to any song I asked and writing out the part just for me. I can not recommend him enough, if you want to work hard and learn not just what and how to play but the theory behind it all then this is the guy for you. He's smart and will give you an complete understanding of guitar and music theory which will allow you to excell at playing not just guitar, but any instrument you choose to pick up.

Brian is professional, considerate and kind, could get you play any songs you pick super fast and complement lessons with necessary basic trainings. Has a variety of gears in his studio so no need for you to bring your own all the way there. Yes the charge is higher than many other tutors but for a smooth & enjoyable learning process it's always worth it. P.S. Brian could write down the music for guitar part accurately just by listening to the songs and immediately teach it to you! Highly recommend.

First lesson was great! Debbie is extremely encouraging and knowledgable. You can definitely tell that she is experienced, and that she knows exactly what she is teaching. Even though I only had one lesson, I already learned so much, and immediately felt a difference in my voice. I look forward to continuing lessons with her.

April is a wonderful teacher who really focuses her instruction on you. She is able to tailor each lesson to the student's needs, and has a way of communicating so that students can succeed regardless of their previous instruction or individual abilities at the start of the lessons. I definitely would recommend her!

We had been searching for a piano teacher for our 8 year daughter for some time and finally found Charlyn a few months ago. We're so glad we did. Charlyn is extremely patient, very professional and totally devoted to teaching. She makes the lessons fun and works toward my daughters interests all the while teaching the important foundations of the instrument. I love her well-rounded approach--she includes a little of everything from theory, finger positioning, to sight reading, etc... My daughter has learned so much and we've only just begun! I would highly recommend Charlyn to anyone--young or old--interested in lessons!

Linda has been my son's private cello teacher for many years. With her help he jumped straight into the advanced chamber orchestra at high school as a freshman. We recently added music theory to his regular weekly lessons and as a result his grade for his AP music theory class at the high school is a 99.5%. Here's hoping for a 5 on his AP test!

It is with full confidence that I recommend Mia Slayford as a vocal coach. Mia has been teaching students to achieve their best singing voice for many years. Futhermore, Mia is capable of directing large groups and was instrumental in co-instructing a successful secondary school choir. Not only does Mia connect on a personal level with each student to help them reach their individual goals, her own talent and enthusiasm in the music profession is an inspiration to others. I can say from personal experience that Mia was instrumental in helping me develop my musical flare and I have the fondest memories of our time singing together. There is no person I can recommend more for their passion or expertise in this field. Mia is the perfect vocal coach to help anyone sing with confidence and will always go above and beyond to ensure lessons are engaging and fun! I hope this recommendation can help you make your decision with confidence!

My kids started piano about 3 years ago, that nurture and awoke love for art, now they have selected special instruments that they feel is more with their personality. The instructors are patient, true professionals, very kind to kids. My son specially, had issues at school, he was to active and they wanted me to give him meds. I talked to Ms. Lee about it and she recommended me piano for my son to nurture his patience. I added swimming lessons and now after three years, my kid is able to cope with his energy and he has improved his grades tremendously! I am personally thankful to IAMS for the help given to my son and my family.

After wanting to learn to play the guitar for years, I can’t say enough how grateful I was when I found Davey! He’s incredibly talented, both as a musician and a teacher, and has a unique way of making lessons rewarding from the start. I appreciate the way he values teaching the fundamentals, while also incorporating my musical tastes and keeping the lessons fun. I was blown away by how quickly I learned! He’s truly a gifted teacher and his warm personality and genuine encouragement make you want to play all day. Davey doesn’t just show you how to play an instrument - he teaches you how to be a musician.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is CPR training?

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (better known as CPR) is a lifesaving manual technique that pumps oxygenated blood back into the body’s organs if someone’s heart or breathing has stopped. A variety of CPR training is available to community members, employees and healthcare providers. CPR training may last two to five hours or more, depending on the content and the target audience. During the training, students will learn how to recognize and respond to an emergency situation. There are different CPR techniques for adults and children, but with both you will learn how to determine whether the person is conscious before administering chest compression. During the training you’ll learn chest compression techniques for adults and different techniques for children between the ages of 1 and 8. Students learn how to properly administer chest compressions, when the technique is appropriate and when it is not, and how long you must perform rescue measures. Students also learn what an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is and how to use it if necessary to shock a patient before administering CPR chest compressions.

How do I become CPR and first aid certified?

You can earn CPR training and receive first aid certification in a number of ways. Choose an online course to learn the materials remotely and then find a testing location to complete the certification process with an in-person demonstration of your knowledge and skills. Encourage your workplace to host a first aid and CPR training so employees can learn what to do in case of a workplace emergency and how to respond with lifesaving techniques. You may also be able to take a CPR or first aid class in your community. A basic CPR training may run four to five hours. After receiving CPR training, you’ll know how to respond if an adult or a child goes into cardiac arrest or stops breathing. You’ll learn how to use chest compressions to keep blood pumping to a person’s organs, which can keep them alive until an emergency responder can arrive. First aid and CPR training can also include education about how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

What is first aid training?

With first aid training, you may be able to help save a life. First aid training can teach people who are not medical professionals how to help a sick or injured person in crisis before an ambulance arrives on the scene. Most commonly, first aid training helps teach you how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use automated external defibrillators (AEDs).

First aid training can teach you how to respond in a variety of emergency situations, including:

  • Asthma attack
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Burns
  • Choking
  • Diabetic emergencies
  • External bleeding
  • Heart attack
  • Poisoning
  • Neck, head or back injury
  • Stroke
  • Seizure

First aid training classes may be offered by professionals who are affiliated with the Red Cross, which offers online, in-person, and blended training classes. First aid classes are also often offered through local recreation centers, city services, schools, hospitals and private companies.

What do you learn in a first aid course?

First aid training gives you a variety of lifesaving skills for responding to many different emergency situations. In a first aid course you’ll learn about how to examine someone who’s been hurt, how to use a defibrillator, how to administer cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and how to control bleeding and trauma. Some courses include pediatric first aid as well as adult first aid; helping a choking infant, for example, is different from helping a choking adult. Although you can take CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) courses separately, most first aid training includes both.

In a first aid course you’ll also learn how to respond to:

  • Wounds, including punctures, cuts and hemorrhages
  • Heart attacks, chest pain and respiratory arrest
  • Bone fractures, sprains and torn muscles
  • First-, second- and third-degree burns
  • Poisoning
  • Choking
  • Bites and stings
  • Hypothermia or frostbite
  • Shock and seizures
