They did a fantastic job! This was a bit of an unusual move, because I needed to empty out my mobile storage container from a somewhat remote storage facility, but they found the place and were even nice enough to let me ride in the truck with them back to the city! I had about a studio apartment's worth of stuff, and they loaded and unloaded it in less than 2 hours, plus travel time. I was a little nervous at first because they arrived with a fairly large truck, and was worried that it wouldn't fit anywhere in SF, but they managed to find space. Everything was handled with care, and arrived perfectly intact. Can't go wrong with Two Friends Movers!

Edgar and his helper were super efficient! They started and finished exactly on time, were well prepared for small unexpected things, and were in good spirits throughout on a hot summer day. In all, highly recommend their help. I paid $190 for a 2hr, 2 person move from my storage unit to my apartment (within 5mi). $65/hr + one time truck rental of $60. Works out even better for a slightly longer move!

Albion Moving & Storage : Steve and his crew were courteous, efficient & amazing! - They came on time, moved expeditiously, and got us moved in within 6 hours ( 2 bdrm & loft - 2 bath)! They used a creative moving concept of two moving trailers which made it easier for loading as we had a sloped driveway and several flights of stairs. I recommend sending photos of entry's, stairwells and any sort of building issues before getting a final quote - do your own packing/boxing to save money & time - we did and it worked out great! I will admit, I was initially concerned about Steve who is the more senior of the crew - but he kept moving like a machine and kept driving the team moving at a clip too. These guys are down to all-business and no fussing about or lazing 'round. They ask questions, placed boxes where we asked and offered to take apart and/or reassemble furniture too - ( We did it ourselves to save $) BONUS: The charming Manchester accent was an extra bonus! Cheers Gentlemen for making our move a success!!

We had a lot of stuff to move and we were like deer in the headlights. Scott came over to give us an estimate and also gave us a lot of tips and guidance on how to get going. A Pro Tip from Scott; plan early and call him early! We did a lot of packing ourselves, but Scott can also provide packers to make your job easier! (I wish I knew this earlier, it would have saved my back!) On the day of the move, Thomas and Shane showed up on time and began to move us. Those guys were the most professional and friendly people you would ever want to work with. They made the whole tedious task a lot easier for us to deal with. When they got to our storage place, they carefully arranged our stuff to maximize the space. Scott said he was trying to see if we could avoid getting another storage space (we had a LOT of stuff!) I enthusiastically recommend Scott and his moving/packing services. I look forward to using him and his crew to move from storage to our new home.

I would not recommend this company what so ever. My movers were incredibly unprofessional, rude to staff, rude to me, and were the absolute worst movers I have ever dealt with before. One mover yelled at the woman running the storage unit I was moving things from, and did not pack my items properly in their budget truck. They broke two pieces of my furniture and my rug is missing. I had to call the cops on them since they were holding my furniture hostage after I said I would complain about the broken furniture. After that, the mover was rude the whole time and called me names/got up in my face and was very confrontational. Trust me, never use this company.

We just got into an arrangement with A2B. Our contract involves packing and dismantling, 5 days of storage and delivery. They offered us a discount and were very flexible with the dates.

This is a review of my first experience with this company that took place a few months ago (09/06/2016). I was scheduled on a Wednesday at 10AM. Before any moving had been done I was already very pleased with the way they handled their business. Even though I contacted them last minute and needed their services ASAP they were extremely accommodating and found a date/time that worked best for me. My two movers, Sergey and Bogdan, gave me a heads up phone call to let me know they were on the way. They arrived right on time about 15 minutes later. I needed to move out all my belongings in my bedroom and a few pieces of furniture (bedset: queen mattress, bedframe, nightstand, computer desk, dresser) out of the bedroom right next to mine. Both rooms were at the top floor of a 3-story townhouse, and the only way to move my belongings into the truck was through 4 sets of stairs (that were super small, narrow and difficult to work with). They started on the empty room with the furniture first because I actually wasn't even fully done packing my room yet. My boyfriend supervised and said that they carefully wrapped everything and used a lot of bubble wrap and shrink film to make sure everything was very protected. My room was a more complicated because I still had random items and clothing articles scattered around, but Sergey and Bogdan did not mind at all and packed literally EVERYTHING without a single question. I can't imagine how difficult it was for them to get my ridiculously furniture down those stairs (I already get tired just carrying my laundry from the garage). After everything was packed up in their truck, they headed to my new destination. They arrived around the same time I did so I could tell they didn't try to delay their drive time. Sergey and Bogdan immediately began unloading everything into my new apartment. Whenever they did ask me questions, it was about how or where I preferred certain items to go. I was so surprised when they told me they had finished because they worked so fast and quietly. They were very kind and gave me a discount on top of the first discount they had given me already. Overall, their staff were friendly, very professional and polite and they work exceedingly well. In the future I will ONLY use Silicon Valley Luxury Moving for all my moving needs!!

Brian helped dissemble my full bedframe and move/unload my packed boxes and mattress to a local storage unit. He was quick, patient, and careful with my frame pieces - to avoid any damage. Also a friendly guy to help get the job done. I recommend his services and would hire him again.

Great experience! I needed a last minute mover for a Saturday morning (3 days notice) to help move my 5x10 storage locker 30 minutes away to my new apartment. The crew (2) was on time, friendly, efficient, hard working, professional... the list goes on. I have nothing but nice things to say, and will definitely be using Main Movers for any future moves!

Used for garage and attic cleanup. They arrived on time, got right to work, and did a great job. For me, it was particularly gratifying because I contacted them at 8:30, they arrived about an hour later, and my garage and attic were cleaned out by 10, and they had loaded their truck and left before 1030. 30+ years of storage gone in about 2 hours. To top it off they were extremely personable. I'll hire them for other projects

There is pretty much no way around it: moving in San Francisco is an awful experience. The guys at Southwest Moving make it about as bearable as possible. In the days before my scheduled move, Joe was consistently responsive to any questions I had or updates to my moving inventory, and always prompt with sending an updated quote. I was moving from one bedroom in Downtown. The team of guys I had on moving day was Joe, James, and Jonathan. All three were remarkably efficient, careful, and hardworking. They got all of my boxes and furniture wrapped up and loaded quickly and were just as diligent with unloading at my new apartment. Southwest Moving offers a class service and I am very happy about having chose them to do my recent move.

I recently moved into my new home that needed minor repairs. I heard of Art from a neighbor of mine who got his new light fixtures installed by him. He presented himself in a professional way with ideas and knowledge of what my house needed. With few drywall repairs and new paint to most bedrooms he was always on schedule. He also helped assemble my ikea furniture and mount my tvs in the bedrooms. He was always on time and did way more than he was asked. It seems there isn't a thing he can't do. He is a talented young man with a very fare prices. I would hire him again when I find more work around the house.

TK delivery and moving services are very efficient. The moved our 2 by 2 apartment in 4 hours. Our apartment was on the 3rd floor. Guys were well behaved and presented themselves nicely. They moved most of the furniture without any damage. They charged what we agreed on. Bo extra charge for bringing regular moving supplies. Our moving time was 4 hours 10 min and they charged prorated rate for the additional 10 mins. Affordable and great service. Will be recommending them to friends as well.

I give Pratt's Trucking a 9.5! As a Realtor, I sometimes stage my own listings. I hired Billy Pratt of Pratt Trucking to "de-stage" a listing. I was deeply impressed with the level of care he took with my beautiful furniture. He wrapped all pieces in shrink wrap as we were storing it in a very dusty warehouse. He was polite, hardworking and on time. Billy's rates are competitive. I appreciated that he took the time to do the job correctly, and did not cut any corners. Yes, there are others out there who are faster, but they tend to damage my expensive staging furniture. I want a careful mover. I have also seen Pratt's assemble furniture from IKEA at a client's home. They lay all the pieces out on moving pads so your furniture is assembled without a scratch and is assembled correctly. Why squander your valuable weekend assembling that annoying IKEA furniture when you can just hire Pratts? They will do a better job than you, and you won't have a sore back! They also deliver it!

I spent few days researching several moving companies and American Choice Van Lines had pretty darn good reviews so I hired them to move my storage content from New York to California. The whole process was finished in a week’s time and that's because it was a pretty long distance to cover. They loaded my stuff into a good looking VAN because that was exactly what was my requirement; in terms of my goods to be transported. I watched them stack the boxes in the truck and they did it pretty easily. It looked really neat and I was sure the stacking would insure I would have no damage at all. Honestly, customer service was great and they were very co-operative from the very start. I wasn't able to get in touch with their dispatcher during the first evening but they were quick to respond the next morning. The next morning they said that the office was closed for Sunday night, and it was very understandable that I was expecting too much. The reason why I give them 5 stars is because they delivered without damaging. And I saw few reviews that were complaining about loads of damage and theft. I never had any sort of damage or theft and that is more important than little things that are a part of the moving process. I will also recommend doing your research before hiring a moving company but American Choice Van Lines is one of the good ones and a definite choice.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much should you tip furniture movers?

Moving furniture is hard work and potentially dangerous unless you’re properly equipped. For anyone not ready to handle their heavy oak armoire alone, professional furniture movers can safely and efficiently move your items to another room in your house or across town as needed. The national average cost to hire heavy furniture movers is $150-$200 per hour. This rate could include multiple furniture movers working as a team to move items such as beds, armoires, billiards tables, pianos, shelves, tables, entertainment centers and more. Hourly rates can vary by region. If your furniture movers have arrived on time, done a great job, kept your home and belongings protected from scratches and dings, and completed the move as planned, a tip will be greatly appreciated. Moving companies suggest approximately 10 percent of the total bill as gratuity for those doing local moving jobs, which is also a good guideline for tipping heavy furniture movers. If the total bill for heavy moving was $100 and two workers were onsite, consider giving them $10 total, or $5 each for a job well done.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.
