Tucker provided live music for my daughter's 2nd birthday party. What was great about Tucker was that he really just set the mood in an authentic way. Other musical entertainment that I've seen at parties is largely based on getting kids to "participate". It was great to just have someone be genuine, enthusiastic and entertaining for kids and adults alike.

Summer does a great job at noticing right away what I need help with and provides materials to target the problem. I told her what book I was using in my class and she purchased it right away, making our lesson much more efficient and smooth. She even went out of her way to curate a CD of a couple of my favorite bands for me to listen and analyze from. Not only is she ridiculously professional and organized, she responds promptly to texts/ schedule changes and immediately makes arrangements for the next lesson. I'm glad that I found someone who has a clear understanding of music and teaches it to ones who are in dire need of learning it. I highly recommend Summer to anyone in need of a professional and truly reliable teacher to learn music.

Ms. Lara is the best teacher I’ve ever had, and I’m really not over exaggerating. I started learning piano with her at 16 and I’ll be 18 soon so she’s been teaching me for a long while. Lately I’ve been really busy trying to graduate and handle other responsibilities and Ms. Lara has been an encouragement the whole way through. There have been times where I’d be too busy to practice and she would understand and be patient with me and help me keep up my piano playing. When I told Ms. Lara that I wanted to play Beethoven really bad for my recital she didn’t tell me that it was impossible (due to the fact that I’m still kind of a beginner) but she was just as excited for me and told me to work really hard if I wanted to accomplish my goal. Now I’m able to sight read professional music and play some hard songs by heart. She has made me really comfortable to be around her and I would say that she isn’t just my teacher but she is now my friend. Thank you so much Ms. Lara!!

I learned to play guitar when I was 12, then abandoned it for many years. Wanting to return to it years later as an adult, I wanted someone who could help me pick up where I left off. A friend from work referred me to Damien and I love his teaching style. His knowledge and understanding of music theory is exceptional and he has helped me progress tremendously. Damien takes a personal approach to teaching rather than a "classroom textbook" approach. I occasionally do events at a local venue and have hired Damien and his friends to play on several occasions and received rave reviews on his performance. Damiens musical energy flows from his fingers to the fretboard in a magical way. I highly recommend Damien to anyone looking to further their musical education!

I have been taking guitar lessons from Kimberly via Skype for about six years. I really like her teaching style which is systematic and focused. She tailors her lessons to my goals and time. Her teaching method is to help you gain insight and skill through patient practice of gradually changing exercises. She doesn't snow you with theory, but presents it to you in digestible amounts just when it will make sense. She welcomes questions and I always learn from our discussions. She has led me to learn techniques on the guitar that I was absolutely sure I could never learn. For something to seem impossible at the start, to seem possible a week later and to be routine a month later is amazingly uplifting. Kimberly's background was first a life of teaching herself and playing gigs with all kinds of bands in all kinds of places. She has also deepened and strengthened her knowledge by gaining academic degrees in guitar and jazz and also by studying under masters. This gives her an incredibly deep understanding of learning and teaching music, an immense skill in playing guitar, and an appreciation for the challenges of playing with other people. I especially love her continued enthusiasm for guitar and that she really enjoys teaching. I have found in Kimberly the best of teachers and highly recommend her without reservation.

Taylor is the ultimate Pop Music Producer! He understands every kind of Top 40/Hit Music/Swedish Pop music which is why I chose him for my project. This is a professional you will be working with. He works faster on Pro Tools than I can keep up with my eyes, and I'm a Pro Tools 10 user myself. If you are looking for a HIT SONG, this is the man you need to contact. I have worked with many producers across the country, & he is the opposite than a lot of others. A lot of other producers do NOT like to always be told different ideas and directions, because it takes up their time. Taylor encourages talk within the project at all times. He always says it's the little things that can make a song huge- so speak up! THIS IS KEY to having a song that's not only a hit, but a hit in which you feel comfortable to sing live. I can't say I WOULD go back to him, because I already AM back in the studio working on the next project! :) Taylor is embracing of any styles/flares you prefer your music to have, so let the imagination go crazy while he starts exploring any direction or fusion of directions in music you like, because he will ultimately transfer a "crazy idea" into something radio friendly. I'm a very straightforward person who needs my music mixed/produced professionally, yet kindly with a personality too, in order to make me feel non-vulnerable while recording. Taylor is the ultimate in laid-back and friendly- with a genuine kindness to the table that can't be faked or authenticated. This implies passion within his work, and it shows. Book him yourself to find out, I'm glad I did, have no regrets whatsoever and highly advise people who want to fast-track their pop careers to contact him immediately to have him start working magic.

John Brown is a talented musician. I hired him for my parents 50th wedding anniversary party. He was amazing! Played all of the songs we asked and sounded great. He even let my dad, who enjoys singing and playing the guitar harmonize with him for a few of the songs. My dad was over the moon about the experience. I will hire John again and again if I am in need of live music. Thank you John for making my parents 50th extra special!

Alicia and her team were so easy and wonderful to work with during the wedding planning process! The musicians played beautifully during our wedding ceremony, were very accommodating about learning new songs at a nominal price and I was so impressed with how quickly Alicia always responded to emails and questions. We absolutely loved working with Organic String Quartet and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for live musicians to play at their wedding or other event!

We hired Ken and his band for my grandmother's 83rd backyard BBQ. When I tell you everyone, even or neighbors were inquiring about where I found them...it was insane. They were awesome and so pleasant. My grandmother is a jazz and blues guru so this literally made her day. They played upbeat music and some very soothing jazz as well. Everyone in the band is amazingly talented. If you are looking for QUALITY and TALENT, Ken and his band are who you need to hire. Thank you so much guys! We are literally planning on when to hire you next, making up an event to throw. Someone said...let's just have a brunch and hire them (lol). Oh, not to mention my 1 year old with the moves like jagger enjoyed boogying to this wonderful band. Again, thank you so much Ken...you and that sax were amazing! ☺️

We had an acoustic guitarist from the band play our ceremony and an 8 piece band (the usual 6 plus 2 horns) play our wedding reception - the red letter players killed it! Malynda was very easy to work with and the band was extremely well priced compared to their competition. Everyone at the party still can't stop talking about the amazing band. Highly recommended!!

We love Gold Standard. This was the second time we hired Rob and his terrific group to perform on our campus. Previously they entertained at our staff holiday party. This past Saturday (February 25, 2017,) they were the featured band at our school's Mardi Gras gala. This was a major fundraising event, with a silent auction/social hour, dinner, live auction and dancing. Gold Standard is a class act. They are stellar musicians who know how to please the crowd. Perhaps most notable, is their refreshing versatility. They opened our event with smooth ballads and light jazz - and featured great sounds on saxophone. Then they edged into more upbeat dance songs following dinner, with refreshing and soulful takes on covers everyone recognized. They closed our event with late night DJ services, spinning all the latest in dance club favorites. Our guests loved the music and Gold Standard understands how to read a crowd. They are professional, talented, punctual, out-going, great looking guys who could effortlessly assimilate into any event. I recommend them highly. ~Nevah

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.
