I have worked with Lois for the past three month, and she is just AMAZING. I have learned so much from her about public speaking, interview techniques and accent reduction. I am now much more confident about my English and presentation stills. She did an absolutely fantastic job on editing my resume and personal statements. Unlike online editing services (which just correct grammar and punctuation mistakes and typos), she spent time to know my vision and what I really wanted to express. The end results were impressive pieces that were personal and really made me stand out. Lois is intelligent, delightful and inspirational, and I truly enjoy her teaching. I especially love her homemade iced tea in this hot summer. I strongly recommend Lois for her lessons and will definitely continue working with her!
Sessions gave me a greater sense of peace and confidence. Was able to deliver a great speaking presentation after a few sessions with Dr John.
I am a college student who was overwhelmed with having to present in front of a large class. I sought out help from Carl hoping he would help me with my public speaking skills. After only two one hour sessions, not only did I improve my delivery, but my confidence increased as well. Carl is a very outgoing tutor who is extremely passionate about helping his students. If there is anybody out there who is stressed out about upcoming school presentations, I would seek out Carl's help. He will teach you how to organize and deliver your presentation, no matter the subject.
First phone contact AND subsequent, in-person, one-hour session with Michelle Hannah was outstanding. She is polite, courteous, promptly responsive to your queries, professional, yet friendly, warm, inspiring, and NATURALLY vibrant, positive, and energetic. She is also sincere and authentic - what I truly respect. And she demonstrated her expertise immediately. I was thoroughly impressed. She is excellent at honing in right on my target desires and goals (be these implicit or explicit), and mirrors and articulates well my objectives. She also is very good at obtaining clarity from me on any issues or points that are relevant to my objectives. This indicates to me that she is listening very well, and accurately, and is responsible to not misunderstand or assume/presume what I feel, think, or mean to say. In doing so, I feel that I am clearly heard by her. As such, she recognizes nuances that may either hinder or help me as I proceed forward. Terrific communication skills, and which do not feel forced or mechanical. She's fluid AND precise in how she communicates. In her emphasis on the pragmatic, she quickly, effectively, and clearly breaks down my larger goals into realistic, do-able, non-intimidating chunks. This so that I will have a better chance at experiencing the positive re-inforcement of my having actually completed my step-by-step goals. Instead of feeling bogged down and discouraged, this gets me moving out of 'stuckness' and stagnation. (Getting unstuck is difficult to do on one's own, when it comes to particularly sticky or stubborn issues. Including counter-productive ones that I've been tolerating for too long and to my detriment. So, Ms. Hannah's positive 'shake-up' activates me in the best ways, and in alignment with what is best in me.) In her non-judgmental and compassionate way, Ms. Hannah affected my energy, my outlook, and my confidence immediately and for the better. And she did this without hype or false or artificial means, but in substantive and real ways (and matching what I feel about my true core self). I feel that, with Ms. Hannah, my life situation and desired goals are genuinely validated. Terrific to feel that I have someone in my corner, in a healthy, productive way. Just invaluable. She is also well organized. I was impressed with the introductory worksheets she asked me to fill out, before our first session, and the realistic, do-able homework she gave me to complete before our next session. She understands the importance of positive momentum, as do I. Accordingly, I appreciated her recommendation that I schedule my next session not more than 9-10 days after the first one. I told her ahead of time that that's the kind of accountability I want and need, to keep me on track with my goals at this early stage. In my estimation, Ms. Hannah went above and beyond for my first session. That said, I will not take her generosity of investment for granted. In fact, it's part of what motivates me to meet my goals: valuing her time and my time, and what we put into the work together, as client and coach. As I see it, this is not unlike an athlete who's inspired to do well, not just for herself but in appreciation of her coach's efforts as well. She also works with a partner-coach whose business/finance background will be very helpful to some of my goals as well. But the partner-coach is not involved with my private sessions with Ms. Hannah. Those, I presume, would be separate sessions on an as-needed basis. A great complementary choice for a client to have. The only area of improvement I would suggest, thus far, is that Ms. Hannah provide her office address on her initial intake material, once a client hires her. A simple, practical item of information.
I was very fortunate to have worked with Tracy. Public speaking does not come natural to me yet my work does require me to do presentations and product demos. And working with Tracy helped me tremendously. First off, she is incredibly friendly, patient, and empathetic. Her methods are simple but really effective. I used to be really rigid in my previous presentations, but after working with her, I am much more relaxed and I allow the presentation to flow much more naturally. The result is I keep my audience's attention much more. I would say that the improv exercises we did were the most effective. I think anyone, in particular those who are introverted like myself, and find it difficult to present will benefit from her insight and guidance. She is a great person to know and you should consider yourself lucky if you get the chance to work with her.
I had an excellent experience with Carolyn! I asked her for help in working on a few monologues before I auditioned for post-graduate programs, and she was remarkably helpful in helping me realize what programs may be best for me (I wasn't particularly interested in grad school just yet). Thanks to Carolyn's help, I am now a member of the 2017-2018 Professional Training Company at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. I can't recommend her strong database of both performance and business knowledge, as well as her positive outlook enough!
It was a true pleasure working with Tracy. She's extremely talented and very dedicated to her clients. By showing me how I was pronouncing sentences differently from Americans and practicing with me, she really helped me reduce my (French/Belgian) accent. Now I realize when I am speaking with an accent, even in regular conversations, and it allows me to purposefully work on it. Thank you Tracy!
Brian is personable, exceptionally gifted--both in teaching and in his own talent as an artist--and wickedly funny. I owe to him my foundation in vocal training and piano that allowed me to pursue a major in Theatre at the University of Michigan. But more importantly, it was with Brian that I had my very first voice lesson, and for that I credit to him an unending hunger to never stop learning and growing as a performer. He creates a safe and free space to both make mistakes in and sing the best you never expected from yourself. Brian strongly emphasizes a strong foundation in technique and challenges each of his students to go above and beyond even their own expectations.
It's not that I don't like public speaking, or that I do like it, it's that I lack confidence in doing something that is not a constant, practiced part of my daily life. Enter Robin. Kind, supportive and forever positive. Robin has helped me with a few high-profile presentations to large annual conferences, and to smaller regional gatherings. We have worked on timing, tone, modulation, message~even tweaking the written word as it took on the spoken form. Robin's suggestions were specific, spot-on, and always presented as a generous invitation to step out of the habitual, and into the creative. Her enthusiasm for public speaking which she so obviously adores is contagious. In the end, I felt confident and relaxed~ still a bit nervous, but in a way that encourages, rather than thwarts. My presentations were a hit, and not just because I felt good about the outcome. Conference attendees came up to me afterward to tell me the presentation was all a presentation should be~passionate, articulate, concise, well-researched and inspiring. What is the point of public speaking if not to well share our passions and inspire others? I wholeheartedly recommend working with Robin as a way to improve your public speaking skills, while enjoying the process!
Really helped refine my speaking skills. Definitely worth every penny.
I came to Oliver at Verbal Ninja ahead of a big speech that had career and even life changing potential. I was speaking to a large group of fellow doctors, several of whom were what you might call “celebrity doctors.” Frankly, I wanted to upstage them. I myself have an acting background but have always had a lot of stage fright for public speaking. I worked with Oliver over the month leading up to the big event. I knew what I wanted to say, just not quite how to say it. He made my words sound like nothing I’ve ever heard before—yes, that good. Yet it still sounded like me…I felt comfortable and spontaneous. He sort of gave me the voice that I always thought I had inside, if that makes any sense. He also coached my delivery, voice, gestures, movement, eye contact, etc. etc. His tricks to conquer stage fright—especially the psychological aspect—are brilliant. The result? I think I killed it that night. Even my billionaire friend who came to see me said I spoke better than a lot of people he sees that speak on a regular basis. Even the owner of the company had this to say: “Thanks for everything, the event was great and we were very happy that you gave that speech, it was amazing! Not only the way you presented (like an actor) but also the content was very emotional, some tears were shed from Melissa.“ People came up to me afterwards and shared how I changed their view on aesthetics and really motivated them. All the “famous doctors” who spoke alongside me on the panel were super impressed as well. In short, Oliver came to me highly recommended. He leaves me even more highly recommended. If the stakes are high, he’s the guy.
Brought most of my team to hear Mike speak and I am so glad I did! Mike delivered a presentation that was powerful, fun and full of great content. Our Company asked him to create a custom presentation for us and he took the time to talk to company leadership, learn about our company and the people who would be there. Mike created something that was so relevant, interesting and strong that we asked him if we could keep his outline and make it part of our regular team training! Loved every minute of dealing with him, a true professional! Steffan Alons, Akamai Innovations
I am so glad I connected with Catherine for my public speaking concerns because she made all the difference in the world in helping me gain confidence, connect with the audience and the content of my speech. In fact, I originally needed help in speech content and my delivery in order to get a promotion I passed up awhile back, due to my lack of speaking skills. Because of Catherine’s insight to motivation, and her skill in determining a person's development of content suited to my specific topics, I made a huge impression on my colleagues and apparently my supervisor in the accounting office I work at. Many thanks, Catherine, to your patience and guidance to set me apart from all the others with my unique personality in speaking and presenting. And now, I have tremendous confidence! Kimberly W. I use a unique method called the Creative Ability System that uses an action verb in connecting two tangible items to make powerful associations. The method stimulates the brain and causes "neural sprouting" which increases the neural branches in the brain thus improving mind and memory. It is a fun, easy method that you can learn and then use for the rest of your life.
My daughter was in the Conejo Valley Youth's 'Midsummer Nights Dream'. I am in awe of the result: youth speaking Shakespeare's English as naturally as their own. Mary directs scenes from the play, and artfully casts the kids in several roles. After one scene is rehearsed, it is run again with a different cast. The youth build their character from the experience of seeing it performed as well as from their own interpretation. The masterful process is intuitive; all the kids know is that they are having fun with each other.
