Michael repaired an 8ft section of redwood fence for us. He contacted me promptly and we discussed the job. His bid was very reasonable and his work was great. He did everything we asked for and I am very happy with the result. I plan on calling him again for future jobs as the need arises. I will recommend him to others.

Everything was as clean or cleaner after he left...I highly recommend him for any job you might have for him. John was very courteous and understanding when he arrived. He repaired a door that someone else had put in. He made sure before he did anything that he understood exactly what I wanted done. He did such a good job I had him fix a fence outside. His prices are very reasonable. I really like the fact that he called to let me know he was on his way. He did such a great job that he will be coming back in a couple of weeks to replace a door. Thanks John for your help.

He and his wife did an amazing job of overhauling my front and back yard. He even moved the chicken coop fence for me! They were on time for both the estimate and on the day that they did their work. Everything looks amazing and I can’t say enough how happy I am with it. I have now hired them to be my landscaper... highly recommend!

Kemo was here at exactly the time he said he would be and was very personable and professional He not only removed some very difficult stumps that were between a fence and a concrete barrier, but he filled in the deep holes and carted away the debris. He had estimated 4 hours to do the job and was done within that time. He also pulled a thick ivy stem off a fence for me that I had not been able to do. I have some trees I will be removing later and I plan to use Robin Wright again when it is time to remove the stumps.

My fence blew down from the big windstorm on Wednesday 1/19/17 and I just felt overwhelmed. I have 3 dogs and knew I needed to get the fence replaced ASAP. That's where Sam came in. He contacted me within minutes of my posting for a fence company on Thursday and was at my home that evening for a quote. I was more then happy with what he quoted and he said they would begin work on Friday and have my new fence and gate finished on Saturday. It was completed exactly when he said it would be. He and his crew were fantastic and I could not be happier with the results. I now have 65 feet of solid fence. It looks amazing and my dogs are happy they can once again go out and play in their yard. Thanks Sam for the great work!

Great Fence Work Miguel installed a fence for us and did an excellent job. He came here when he said he would. We had a bunch of vines with heavy branches on our fence (which is why it fell down). He and his crew hauled them away, which would have taken us a week. They cleaned up after themselves and even worked in the rain. We are very pleased with our new fence, front gate and having all the old vine branches hauled away. Miguel is very reasonable priced for the work we needed

My husband and I are re landscaping our front and back yards. We hired Philli to clean up the yards so we could have a blank slate to work off of. Philli and his brother worked incredibly hard removing a large concrete patio, metal fence, and many plants including a large walnut tree. Not only did they do a great job with a competitive price for their services, they were also such nice and genuine people to work with and talk to. Highly recommend!

I replaced my old shake roof with a composite roof. When I had the shake roof I had several leaks in the roof which damaged my ceiling dry wall at several upstairs locations. I contracted with Daryl's Handyman Service to repair the damaged drywall areas. Daryl completed the repairs with excellent workmanship. The most major repair was performed on the master bedroom bathroom ceiling. Daryl's work in the bathroom was exceptional as shown in the attached photos. Daryl not only repaired the drywall damage but he also painted the entire bathroom using his own initiative. Our bathroom looks great. My wife and I are very pleased. Daryl also performs fence repair work. We plan to contract with him in June or July to perform over 140 feet of fence repair. I highly recommend Daryl for any home repair needs.

I hired Kieth to stain my fence and he was spot on on all levels. Showed up on time, gave me a quote quickly and did a great job on a large project. I don't always go on price, but he was the more than fair and i would not hesitate on hiring him again for all handyman work, large or small. In fact, I will be reaching out to him again in the near future for other projects.

I hired Richie to rid my front yard of badly overgrown weeds. Out of 6 people who responded to my request, Richie's pricing was most competitive. We set a time, 6/23/18 at 10:00 a.m., and true to form, Richie showed, ON TIME, ready to work. He restored my Front Yard to MINT condition! Although his quote included front yard only but he checked perimeter of home and pulled out any misc. weeds (there was a lot), including pulling out some unsightly ivy growing through my neighbor's fence onto my property. No extra charge. No hidden cost. He worked efficiently and was done with plenty of time for me to make plans for my Saturday. Very pleasant demeanor, which I appreciate (why people come across angry or rude when you're trying to PAY them money is beyond me). I recommend Richie for your lawn care project. You won't be disappointed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How many types of welding are there?

Welding is a method of fusing together two or more pieces of metal using electricity or flame. Welding is used to construct buildings, make metal sculptures, build and repair cars, make gates and furniture, and for many other practical and aesthetic uses. There are multiple types of welding. Here is an overview of the most popular methods:

  • Stick welding: Formally known as shielded metal arc welding, stick welding uses extreme heat applied at the seam of two separate metals to melt them together. A third (intermediary) metal may also be incorporated for added strength. As the metals cool, they are bonded together.
  • Metal inert gas (MIG) welding: Formally known as gas metal arc welding, MIG welding uses a tool to feed metal wire into the weld puddle while an electrical arc melts the wire, which will fuse to the base metal upon cooling.
  • Tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding: Formally referred to gas tungsten arc welding, TIG welding is a similar process MIG welding, but instead of using a tool that continuously feeds metal wire into the weld puddle, the welder must hold and manually feed the stick.
  • Gas welding: A mix of flammable gas and oxygen is used to heat metal to the melting point.
  • Forge welding: Forging metal is an ancient art that involves heating two pieces of metal until they are molten, then hammering them together.

How long is welding training?

Because there are different paths to learning to weld, there’s no single timeline for welding training. Some people attend school part-time while working their current job, while others can focus full-time on their welding training courses. People interested in learning how to weld as a hobby can also take classes from professional welders, such as at KCMA & Services in Waterloo, Indiana.

Expect to take at least two years to go from welding newbie to American Welding Society Certified Welder. A junior college Certificate of Completion welding course is two semesters full-time, or 10 units of coursework. With this certificate, students are qualified for an apprenticeship or internship, rather than a full-time entry-level job. Welding apprenticeships range from 6,000 to 8,000 hours long, equalling three to four years at 2,000 hours per year. Some junior colleges, such as Cerritos College in the Los Angeles area, offer more in-depth welding programs that lead to different welding certifications, such as arc welding and tungsten gas arc welding. These take three to four semesters to complete, so you could be qualified for an entry-level job in about two years of full-time study. Alternatively, you can prepare for employment more quickly through an intensive vocational program at a trade school. For instance, Ohio’s Lincoln Electric Company offers a comprehensive program that prepares people for a welding career in just 20 weeks and 600 hours of hands-on instruction.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.
